Fri Jan 16 201510:03Jones announced retirement Thursday
Jones announced his retirement Thursday, ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco reports.
Working primarily as a fullback after being drafted out of Florida State in 2004, Jones amassed only 913 yards and 10 touchdowns during his 10-year career. Jones paved the way for both Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew while spending most of his career in Jacksonville, with his efforts allowing Jones-Drew to claim the NFL rushing yardage title in 2011.

Wed Mar 27 201313:11Texans sign lead blocker Greg Jones
Texans agreed to terms with FB Greg Jones, formerly of the Jaguars, on a one-year contract.
Jones was the lead blocker in Jacksonville the past nine seasons, paving the way for Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. He'll be Arian Foster's fourth fullback in as many seasons. Jones played just 246 snaps last season, which was 20th among fullbacks. Jones turns 32 in May, but Pro Football Focus graded him as a top-three lead blocker in each of the past three years. The beat will go on for Foster.

Tue Mar 26 201310:02Texans hosting free agent FB Greg Jones
Free agent FB Greg Jones will visit the Texans Tuesday.
After losing James Casey to the Eagles in free agency, the Texans are on the hunt for Arian Foster's lead blocker once again. They moved on from Vonta Leach after 2010 and replaced Lawrence Vickers following the 2011 season, but haven't missed a beat in the running game. Jones graded out as ProFootballFocus' No. 3 blocking fullback last season, behind only Leach and Rhett Ellison.

Wed Mar 6 201322:32Jaguars could re-sign FB Greg Jones this week
The Jaguars are interested in bringing back free agent FB Greg Jones.
The new coaching staff says there is room for a fullback in the offense, and the Florida Times Union says Jones could be re-signed later this week before free agency opens. Coach Gus Bradley saw FB Michael Johnson go to the Pro Bowl while the two were with the Seahawks in 2011.

Sat Dec 1 201217:36Jags FB Greg Jones expected back this week
Jaguars FB Greg Jones (thigh) is expected to return to the lineup this week against the Bills.
Jones' Week 8 injury was initially described as a "bruise," but he's calling it a strain. The 31-year-old is one of the league's top fullbacks, so his return could help spark an ailing run game. Will Ta'ufo'ou has been getting the reps at fullback during Jones' absence.

Fri Sep 16 201123:01Greg Jones expected to keep starting job
Rookie Greg Jones is expected to remain the Giants' starting middle linebacker going forward.
Jones managed four tackles in Week 1, leaving the field on passing downs and playing just over 50 percent of the snaps. The Giants were pleased with Jones' run defense, however, and Pro Football Focus gave him a top-15 run-stopping inside linebacker grade in the opener. Jones' role figures to grow so long as his performance doesn't tail off. He's about an LB4 in IDP leagues.

Tue Sep 6 201122:50Rookie Jones in line to start at MLB
Sixth-round pick Greg Jones will most likely be the Giants' starter at middle linebacker this Sunday.
The Giants are fully expected to sign a veteran free agent to take Jonathan Goff's place on the roster, but it's unlikely they would be ready to start by this Sunday. Jones ran with the Giants' third teamers during training camp, and could get eaten up by Tim Hightower and the Redskins' rushing attack this weekend.

Tue May 24 201117:29Greg Jones is a candidate for paycut
Due $3.1 million this season, Jaguars FB Greg Jones may have to take a paycut to stay on the roster.
Jones is no longer a factor as a runner, but he did grade out as the best lead blocker in the league last season, according to Pro Football Focus. As Charlie Bernstein of Fox Sports Florida points out, "the fullback position is going the way of the newspaper and Jacksonville is a cash poor team." The Jags may turn to Brock Bolen if Jones isn't amenable to a paycut.

Sat Apr 30 201116:20Greg Jones finally drafted, headed to NYC
Giants selected Michigan State LB Greg Jones with the No. 185 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.
Jones is the most decorated college player that will go in the sixth or seventh round of this year's draft. A two-time first-team All-American who racked up an incredible 465 tackles in his college career, Jones fell due to concerns over his size (6'0/240) and playing speed. He ran in the 4.69-4.78 range at the Spartans' March 16 Pro Day. Inside linebackers like Jones often fall when they lack elite measurables, but we wouldn't put it past him to be the next Stephen Tulloch or London Fletcher. In New York, the depth chart ahead of him isn't too stiff for Jones to battle himself into an immediate role.

Wed Jan 26 201100:41Greg Jones will have to move to WLB?
Due to less than ideal size, Senior Bowl LBs coach Paul Guenther predicts that Michigan State's Greg Jones will have to move from middle linebacker to the weak side at the next level.
Guenther is also the Bengals' linebackers coach. He believes Jones' sub-6'0" frame "would not hold up" at his college position. We heard the same of London Fletcher and Stephen Tulloch, of course, and they've fared just fine. Fletcher is generously listed at 5-foot-10, while Tulloch is 5-foot-11.

Mon Jan 24 201113:08Greg Jones measures 5'11/240
Michigan State LB Greg Jones measured 5-foot-11 and 240 pounds during Monday's Senior Bowl weigh-in.
It's a full two inches shorter than his college listing. No one doubts that Jones can play -- he was one of the most prolific tacklers in college football history -- but NFL teams tend to get picky about size. Jones is looking like a probable second-round pick. He projects as a middle linebacker in a 4-3 scheme.

Jones has undergone countless surgeries since college, and received just six carries over the last two seasons. Salvaging his career as a fullback, Jones will return as the lead blocker in front of Maurice Jones-Drew.
