Thu Mar 5 201516:56Maurice Jones-Drew: Announces Retirement
Jones-Drew announced on his personal twitter account that he is retiring from the NFL.
A second-round draft pick of the Jaguars in 2006, Jones-Drew spent much of his career trying to put lousy teams on his back. While his only playoff appearance came in 2007, he was unquestionably one of the NFL's top running backs from 2009 to 2011, when he topped 1,300 rushing yards and 300 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons. Injuries contributed to a fairly quick drop-off, and MJD managed just 96 yards on 43 carries for the Raiders in 2014. He didn't have the necessary longevity to make a case for the Hall of Fame, but he'll always be popular among fantasy owners, as he was one of the first NFL players to openly embrace fantasy football. He has even dabbled in the world of fantasy analysis, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him land a media gig in the coming years. As for the Raiders, Latavius Murray is the current favorite to head the team's backfield in 2015.

Jones-Drew rushed for just 96 yards on 43 attempts, and caught 11 passes on 16 targets for 71 yards, in 12 games in 2014.
Jones-Drew's first season in Oakland was nothing short of a disaster, as he failed to find pay dirt for the first time in nine professional seasons and averaged a mere 2.2 yards per carry. He didn't touch the ball in the Raiders' final two games, as Latavius Murray's emergence pushed Jones-Drew down to third on the depth chart. While he still has two years remaining on his contract, Jones-Drew turned 30 in March and could find himself on the roster bubble come summer.

Jones-Drew did not touch the ball during Sunday's 24-13 win over the 49ers.
Latavius Murray dominated the workload out of the backfield, attempting 23 of the Raiders' 31 rushes. Jones-Drew, meanwhile, barely saw the field, and is still sitting on just a 2.2 YPC average and zero touchdowns for the season. Expect the 29-year-old to remain an afterthought in the offense over the final three weeks.

Jones-Drew had five carries for 21 rushing yards and caught three passes on four targets for 23 receiving yards Sunday against the Rams.
With Latavius Murray out with a concussion, Darren McFadden once again led the backfield, rushing 11 times for only 27 yards. While Jones-Drew outperformed McFadden on a yards-per-carry basis, there is still very limited upside for the former, especially when Murray returns.

Jones-Drew, Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece are all expected to see work Sunday against St. Louis with Latavius Murray (concussion) ruled out, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Jones-Drew has averaged a mere 1.9 yards per carry on 36 attempts so far this season, with a long run of six yards over his last six games. Interim coach Tony Sparano said the carries will be doled out based on the flow of the game and the situation, but it seems likely Jones-Drew will be third in the pecking order behind Reece and McFadden.

Jones-Drew had three carries for 10 yards and caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Broncos.
The Raiders were competitive in the first half, but neither Darren McFadden nor Jones-Drew did much on the ground. McFadden finished with 14 yards on seven carries, to record his second straight ugly performance, but despite McFadden's recent poor play, it doesn't appear as though Jones-Drew will get an opportunity for more work. Next week, Jones-Drew will face the Chargers on the road.

Jones-Drew lost two yards on two carries and had a reception for 11 yards in Sunday's loss at Seattle.
Meanwhile, Darren McFadden once again shouldered most of the load, rushing for 20 yards on 13 carries. At this point, there doesn't seem to be a lot of hope for Jones-Drew, outside of an injury to McFadden.

Jones-Drew totaled just eight yards on six carries in Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Browns. He added one catch on two targets for six yards.
True to his word, interim coach Tony Sparano gave Jones-Drew some additional opportunities -- the six carries were his most since Week 1 -- but the 29-year-old struggled mightily against what was the worst-ranked run defense in the league coming into the week. Jones-Drew didn't endear himself to the coaching staff with this performance, making it unlikely he'll take on an even greater role next week, so it's probably time to cut bait for most remaining fantasy owners.
Fri Oct 24 201420:37The Raiders would like to get Jones-Drew more involved
The Raiders would like to get Jones-Drew more involved, CSNBayArea.com reports. "We need to get [Jones-Drew] more snaps," interim coach Tony Sparano said. "I think the plan is to try to get him involved a little bit more if we can do that now. One of the things we have to do is in order to get people more snaps, we have to play more snaps."
Sparano said something similar earlier this month, but Jones-Drew has touched the ball just eight times in two games since. Thus, it's hard to know how much to read into these comments, but it does sound like the team would, ideally, get Jones-Drew some more reps as a way to keep Darren McFadden fresh and perhaps spark its last-ranked rushing offense. McFadden is likely to continue seeing the bulk of the work.

Jones-Drew had just three carries for six yards in Sunday's loss to Arizona. He was not targeted as a pass catcher.
Jones-Drew has clearly fallen to No. 2 in the Raiders' backfield, as Darren McFadden had 14 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown. Thus, it's going to take an injury or an extended period of poor play from McFadden for Jones-Drew to get a heavy workload.

Jones-Drew rushed for 30 yards on four carries and hauled in his lone target for 10 yards in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Chargers.
While the 7.5 yards-per-carry average looks nice, the five touches were disappointing for Jones-Drew owners, after interim coach Tony Sparano said earlier in the week that he intended to increase the 29-year-old's role. Darren McFadden carried the ball 14 times Sunday, rushing for season-high 80 yards, and it seems Jones-Drew will have to continue playing second fiddle for the time being.

Raiders interim coach Tony Sparano said he wants Jones-Drew to take on a larger role, ESPN.com reports. "I'd like [Jones-Drew] to take a little bit greater role, maybe get some snaps off of [Darren McFadden]," Sparano said. "If we could, keep them both fresh that way, but we also have got to be running the football and doing some things that way too."
Jones-Drew touched the ball just four times in Week 4, in his first game back from a hand injury, but it sounds like Sparano is intent on returning to a relatively even timeshare with Jones-Drew and McFadden. While the two backs have combined to total just 163 yards on 56 carries so far this season (2.9 YPC), Sparano seems inclined to continue riding the veterans, rather than give 24-year-old Latavius Murray or Marcel Reece additional opportunities.

Jones-Drew (hand) had two carries for one rushing yard and two catches on two targets for two receiving yards Sunday against the Dolphins.
Jones-Drew was the starter in Week 1 but missed the last two games with a hand injury. His return to the field did not mean a return to the lead running back position, as Darren McFadden finished with 11 carries for 40 rushing yards and four catches for 32 receiving yards. The Raiders are on bye in Week 5, and it's certainly possible that the two could share the workload when they return in Week 6 against the Chargers.

Jones-Drew (hand) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
While Jones-Drew is back in action Sunday, what his workload might be remains to be seen, given that coach Dennis Allen indicated that Darren McFadden would be in line to start Sunday's game based on the work he has been able to put in over the past two weeks while Jones-Drew was hurting. While a time-share could develop as Sunday's game progresses, Jones-Drew is not a high-percentage play until he reestablishes his position in the Oakland backfield.

Jones-Drew participated fully in practice Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, ibabuzz.com reports.
It looks like we'll see Jones-Drew back in Week 4, though what his his workload might be remains to be seen, given that coach Dennis Allen suggested that Darren McFadden would likely remain the team's primary back Sunday based on the work he has been able to put in over the past two weeks while Jones-Drew was banged up. A time-share of some form seems likely, in any case.
Thu Sep 25 201411:05Maurice Jones-Drew: (Hand) Practices Fully Thursday
Jones-Drew (hand) practiced fully Thursday, Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports.
Jones-Drew, for the first time since Week 1, was able to get in a full practice session, which puts him on track to play in Sunday's game against the Dolphins. The Raiders have not said how the backfield work will be distributed with Jones-Drew back, but he opened the year as the starting running back and seems likely reclaim that role if he is active Sunday.
Wed Sep 24 201418:51Jones-Drew (hand) limited participant in Wednesday's practice
Jones-Drew (hand) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Jones-Drew said earlier in the day that he expects to suit up for the team's Week 4 matchup against the Dolphins, saying "It's not up to me but I feel like I'll be able to play." Despite logging a pair of limited practices last week, Jones-Drew was held out of the team's loss to the Patriots, but he appears on track to return from his two-game absence Sunday, so long as he avoids a setback with the surgically-repaired hand. If he does get the green light from the training staff, Jones-Drew should see the majority of the touches against Miami's 20th ranked run defense, though Darren McFadden will likely remain involved.

Jones-Drew (hand) expects to play in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, NFL.com reports.
Jones-Drew has missed Oakland's past two games after undergoing hand surgery, but returned to practice last week and asserts he's now ready for game action. At the moment, the Raiders rank second-last in rushing with merely 64.3 yards per contest. Should Jones-Drew indeed suit up for Sunday's game in London, he would likely share carries with Darren McFadden, as the Raiders seek their first win of this season.

Jones-Drew (hand) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
With Jones-Drew still out, look for Darren McFadden and perhaps Latavius Murray and fullback Marcel Reece, to a lesser degree, to handle the Raiders' Week 3 rushing attack.

The Raiders don't expect to have Jones-Drew (hand) for Sunday's game against the Patriots, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
We'll confirm Jones-Drew's status one way or the other in advance of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, but based on Rapoport's report, it looks like Darren McFadden is in line to head the Raiders' Week 3 ground game, with Latavius Murray and fullback Marcel Reece also on hand.
