Thu Jan 2 201422:33Brandon Jacobs retiring after 9-year career
Brandon Jacobs has announced his retirement from football.
"I've had an amazing run and I appreciate all of the support from the fans through the good and the bad," Jacobs said in a statement. "The New York Giants are a great organization and I am proud to have been a part of it for so long." A bruising, powerful runner, Jacobs is hanging up his cleats after nine years in the league. He underwent a "rare" knee procedure last month, and had been plagued by knee woes each of the past two years, totaling just 63 carries. The "Earth" in New York's former Earth, Wind and Fire trio, Jacobs retires having averaged 4.5 yards on 1,141 career totes. It's a sensational number. Jacobs had 1,000-yard years in 2007-08.

Mon Dec 30 201312:28Brandon Jacobs needs four months of rehab
Impending free agent Brandon Jacobs (knee surgery) needs four months of rehab.
Jacobs underwent a rare knee procedure earlier this month. He says he'll only come back to the Giants, but it's unlikely he has enough left in the tank to make the team. Jacobs will turn 32 in July and has a total of 63 carries in the last two seasons.

Thu Dec 12 201313:59Brandon Jacobs' operation more than scope
Brandon Jacobs' left knee surgery included a "cartilage graft to repair osteoarthritis."
In other words, it wasn't just a simple scope. Jacobs showed enough this season to at least get a camp invite for 2014, but it's quite possible his knee and advancing age will kill his roster hopes.

Wed Dec 11 201321:30Brandon Jacobs having his knee scoped
Brandon Jacobs (injured reserve) is currently having his knee scoped.
The good news is Jacobs is having the knee scoped as opposed to a microfracture procedure. He'll have a chance to catch on with a team in 2014. Jacobs will be 32 years old by the start of next season, but racked up 238 yards and three touchdowns on 58 carries (4.10 YPC) this year. He's got some power, juice, and tackle-shedding ability left, even if it isn't much.

Tue Dec 10 201320:58Giants send Brandon Jacobs (knee) to I.R.
Giants placed RB Brandon Jacobs on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.
Jacobs has carried the ball just 14 times since he toted it 22 times in Week 6 against the Bears. He's missed five of the Giants' past seven games and recently admitted that his knee is nowhere near 100 percent, adding that he'll need a clean-out procedure in the offseason. Jacobs can go ahead and get it now. In seven games with the Giants this season, Jacobs rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns on 58 carries. He'll turn 32 next July. Jacobs' career may be finished. The Giants were the only team willing to sign him in 2013.

Fri Dec 6 201313:14Giants list Brandon Jacobs (knee) as doubtful
Brandon Jacobs (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 14.
Although Jacobs has very little standalone fantasy value, his absence locks in Andre Brown as the Giants' goal-line back. Since returning from short-term I.R. four games ago, Brown is the No. 7 overall fantasy running back, and is a legit RB1 in Sunday's tilt with San Diego. Rotoworld's Pat Daugherty ranks Brown as the No. 9 fantasy back for the first round of the fantasy playoffs. A link to RotoPat's full Week 14 rankings is accessible below.

Thu Dec 5 201313:54G-Men 'hopeful' Jacobs will practice Friday
The Giants are "hopeful" Brandon Jacobs (knee) can resume practicing on Friday.
The "hope" comes from coach Tom Coughlin. Even if Jacobs suits up Friday, he'll be no better than 50-50 to play against the Chargers. Our guess is that Peyton Hillis will back up Andre Brown in San Diego. Jacobs' status will be updated on Friday.

Fri Nov 29 201314:19Giants rule out Brandon Jacobs for Wk 13 game
Brandon Jacobs (knee) has been ruled out for Week 13.
Jacobs rushed for 75 yards off the bench last week, but has chronic knee problems at this stage of his career and couldn't make it through the ensuing practice week without a setback. Expect Peyton Hillis to get a game-day helmet behind Andre Brown. Jacobs' absence is good news for Brown's Week 13 fantasy outlook because the washed-up veteran had been a threat for goal-line carries.

Fri Nov 29 201313:33Brandon Jacobs misses practice
Brandon Jacobs (knee) missed Giants practice on Friday.
Per the NY Daily News' Mitchell Abramson, Jacobs' absence was a "bad omen" for his chances of playing Sunday. If Jacobs is inactive, the Giants would likely activate Peyton Hillis to be Andre Brown's change-of-pace back.

Sun Nov 24 201320:32Brandon Jacobs rushes for 75 yards in Wk 12
Brandon Jacobs rushed nine times for 75 yards in the Giants' Week 12 loss to Dallas.
Jacobs ran through some of the biggest holes you'll ever see against a Cowboys defense missing ILB Sean Lee, but failed to finish the run down near the goal line on his long gain, a 37-yarder. Jacobs hasn't suddenly come back to life. He's a breather back and sometimes-goal-line vulture who's comfortably behind Andre Brown on the depth chart. The Giants face the Redskins next.

Brandon Jacobs (knee, hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 11 against the Packers.
Jacobs returned to practice Thursday after being sidelined since Week 6. He won't be anything more than the No. 3 back upon his return, anyway. Andre Brown is going to carry as much of the load as he possibly can down the stretch.

Jacobs chronic knee issues and long recovery from a seemingly minor hamstring pull have left him third on the depth chart. Andre Brown is going to carry the mail as much as possible going forward.
