The Boston Celtics on Saturday waived forward Perry Jones, a former first-round pick.The 6-foot-11 Jones was acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder in July. His playing time over the last seven exhibition games decreased. He played in five games, scored only two points, and averaged only 8.3 minutes in those appearances.According to the Boston Herald, the Celtics tried to trade Jones, but were unable to find the right deal. Jones was drafted by the Thunder with the 28th pick in the 2012 draft.Boston also waived guard Corey Walden.

Jones (personal) rejoined the Celtics for Monday's practice, Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports.

Jones hopped an early flight home to Boston during the team's European trip following the death of his cousin. After a couple of days of practice to get back in the swing of things, look for Jones to suit up in Wednesday's exhibition against the Nets.

Jones saw just seven minutes of court time in the Celtics' exhibition opener Tuesday against Italian club Olimpia Milano.

Jones missed a couple practices last week with knee soreness, so it's possible that coach Brad Stevens just wanted to limit his minutes Tuesday in an effort to reduce the strain on his knee. It's probably safe to consider Jones healthy at this juncture, but his role heading into the upcoming season remains muddled due to the host of forwards populating the Celtics' roster. It won't help Jones' cause that he'll miss the Celtics' next contest on the European trip against Spanish club Real Madrid. He returned to the United States after Tuesday's game when he received word that a family member passed away, according to the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach.

Jones was traded to the Celtics on Tuesday, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports.

It doesn't appear Boston had to give up anything but a second round pick and money, as this was salary dump to save money for the Thunder. Jones is a lengthy, versatile player who can play on the wing as well as on the block, but given the depth in the Celtics' frontcourt, it may be hard for 23-year-old to come across many minutes next season. In just 43 games with Oklahoma City last season, Jones averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in nearly 15 minutes per game.

In his return Jones was inserted only for the final possession of the game to defend the in-bounds pass. As long as Kevin Durant (toe) is healthy, Jones can be safely avoided in all formats.

Jones joins Kevin Durant (toe) in street clothes, meaning Dion Waiters will enter the starting lineup. Since Jones' ankle injury only emerged Monday, the severity has yet to be revealed. Thus, consider him questionable for Wednesday's contest in New Orleans.

Jones moved back to his familiar bench role Saturday with Kevin Durant back in the lineup, and failed to register a single stat in his two minutes of playing time.

Jones has failed to score in six of the last nine previous games, including two starts in place of Kevin Durant and has almost zero fantasy value with the way the Thunder is using it's rotation at the moment.

Jones was held scoreless Wednesday in 24 minutes with Kevin Durant out for his second straight game. Jones did finish the game with five rebounds and an assist.

In the past two games, Jones is now shooting a combined 2-for-11 despite starting both games. While it may be tempting to use him in daily formats with Durant out, stay clear of Jones. When Durant's healthy, Jones disappears to the bench and doesn't do much when he's in the starting lineup.

Jones scored six points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) to go along with three rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 24 minutes Monday against the Timberwolves.

Jones started in place of Kevin Durant (toe), but didn't provide much statistically. He may start again if Durant is forced to miss any more time, but don't expect much from him even if he does.

With Durant dealing with a toe sprain, Jones will notch his 12th start of the year. The Baylor product, who started earlier in the season when Durant was out with a foot injury, hasn't played more than six minutes in a game since Jan. 7. Jones hasn't played significant time in a game since Jan. 7. Now that the Thunder are healthy, Jones is nothing more than a minor bench player. He's simply not a fantasy option barring any rest nights or injuries for Kevin Durant.

Jones will make another start in place of Kevin Durant (ankle) on Sunday against New Orleans, The Oklahoma's Anthony Slater reports.

Jones got the start Friday against the Lakers but played just 12 minutes, as coach Scott Brooks instead relied heavily upon Reggie Jackson (36 minutes) and Anthony Morrow (16) instead. Brooks stated that he'd like to see more from Jones on Sunday, so it's quite possible he receives a greater minutes load.

Jones may very well continue to be the starting small forward while Durant is away, but Durant isn't expected to be out for long and Jones won't likely be given much time on the court anyway. Despite the hot start over the first five games of the season, it would be surprising if Jones spent significant time on the court at any point this season.

Jones has missed the past 13 games with a knee injury but will be available off the bench for coach Scott Brooks on Friday, and moving forward. He's currently averaging 32.8 minutes on the court over five games this season, although his current stats will be deceiving in comparison to Friday's performance. When Jones was receiving significant time on the court earlier this season the Thunder was stricken with injuries, but now the entire lineup is back on the court and healthy. As a result, Jones will likely be limited behind Kevin Durant.

Jones (knee) practiced in full Wednesday and is now ready to play in games, The Oklahoman's Darnell Mayberry reports.

For the first time this season everyone on the Thunder's roster is considered healthy enough to play. It should be interesting to see how Jones fits in now that Kevin Durant is back in the mix, as Jones did a good impression of a poor man's Durant earlier in the season, but surely won't have those same opportunities now. Look for him to see a limited workload going forward, serving as Durant's primary backup.

Jones (knee) has been unable to participate in any forms of practice and is without a definitive return date, News OK reports.

Jones saw considerable minutes on the court this season when healthy, although the next time that he returns to health might see a different result. Russell Westbrook (hand) is already on the court and Kevin Durant (foot) seems to be within a couple weeks of making his 2014-15 debut. Keeping this in mind, Jones will likely see limited time off the bench when he makes his return, as it won't likely happen until Durant has already made a comeback.

Jones (knee) currently does not have a timetable for return but is considered day-today, The Oklahoman reports.

After playing significant minutes for the Thunder in their first five games of the season, Jones has now missed the last nine contests with a right knee contusion. The 23-year-old will likely be awarded significant time on the court if he makes his return before Kevin Durant (foot) does, although Durant has begun non-contact drills so the window of opportunity is closing for Jones.

Jones (knee) will not play Tuesday against the Jazz.

Jones will miss his seventh straight game Tuesday, as he continues to deal with a lingering knee injury. His next chance to play will be Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets, but considering he's unable to play Tuesday, it seems like that could be a long shot.
