Jets OLB Jermaine Cunningham worked with the starting nickel defense at OTAs.
With Antwan Barnes (knee) questionable for training camp, Cunningham is getting an extended look as a sub-package pass rusher. He saw brief action in two games with the Jets at the end of last year and could push for a third-down role behind Quinton Coples. Sixth-round DE/OLB IK Enemkpali and seventh-rounder Trevor Reilly are also competing for roster spots.

Fri May 30 201412:38Jermaine Cunningham a stand-out at Jets OTAs
The New York Post mentioned OLB Jermaine Cunningham as a player that stood out at Jets OTAs.
Cunningham re-upped with the Jets on a one-year, minimum-salary deal back in January after originally signing on with Gang Green in November. He saw limited action down the stretch but is still young (26 in April). The former Patriots second-rounder reportedly looked fast around the edge in the non-contact practices. With Calvin Pace entering his age-34 season and Quinton Coples frustrating the Jets, Cunningham could play a big role in 2014.

Sun Aug 18 201310:29Cunningham a 'goner' from Patriots?
The Boston Globe believes Patriots DL Jermaine Cunningham "looks like a goner."

Wed Jan 30 201317:46Patriots DE Cunningham triggers escalator
Patriots DE Jermaine Cunningham's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives.
Cunningham has appeared in 36 games over his first three seasons, but he can be classified as a bust after notching just 3.5 sacks over that span. The Patriots wasted the No. 53 overall pick in 2010 on the former Florida Gator. Cunningham was also popped with a four-game PED suspension in 2012. He'll be on the roster bubble this summer.

Sun Jun 24 201211:44Patriots DE Cunningham facing uphill battle
ESPN Boston gives DE Jermaine Cunningham a 35-percent chance of making the Patriots' 53-man roster.
Cunningham has disappointed since New England selected him in the second round of the 2010 rookie draft, but coach Bill Belichick recently tagged him as having a "great offseason". Already competing with Trevor Scott and Justin Francis for reps, the expected re-signing of Andre Carter could be damning.

Coach Bill Belichick indicated that 2010 second-round OLB Jermaine Cunningham has "really worked hard," resulting in a "great offseason."
Asked to describe the offseason improvement, Belichick replied, "A player's physical improvement, overall mental grasp of what we're doing and what we can see on the field which is non-contact but reactions and technique." It sounds like the light may finally be going on for Cunningham, who was the odd man out in the Pats' 4-3 tinkering last season.

Patriots placed OLB/DE Jermaine Cunningham on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
Cunningham's injury is believed to be minor, but with only four games left, the Patriots decided not to wait around for him to heal. A second-round pick in 2010, Cunningham tallied 35 tackles and a sack in 15 games as a rookie. He took a giant step back this season, however, notching just one tackle as he played almost exclusively on special teams. Wed Jul 6 201112:25Pats expecting big things from Cunningham?
The Patriots are "likely expecting big things" from 2010 second-round OLB Jermaine Cunningham, according to the Boston Herald.
The Herald has also connected veteran pass rushers Mathias Kiwanuka and Matt Roth to the Patriots on more than one occasion. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi -- who has connections in New England's front office -- believes Roth could be a Mike Vrabel clone in Bill Belichick's defense. Cunningham will face plenty of competition for playing time.
