The Raiders placed Allen (knee) on the injured reserve-designated to return list Tuesday.
It was thought that Allen may have suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Raiders, but it appears his setback is not as severe as thought, and he will have a chance to return to action later this season.

Allen is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's season opener, ESPN reports.
Allen signed a four-year contract with the Raiders this offseason, but could already have his debut campaign in Oakland cut short after Week 1. While the Raiders have yet to confirm Allen's diagnosis, it appears Larry Asante could be poised for a larger role at strong safety moving forward.
Thu Mar 12 201513:28The Raiders will sign Allen
The Raiders will sign Allen, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Allen, who finished the 2014 season with 62 tackles and four interceptions in 15 games for the Eagles, is thus in line to start at strong safety for the Raiders, who previously parted ways with Tyvon Branch this offseason.

Allen finished 2014 with 62 tackles (51 solo), one sack and four interceptions in 15 games.
Allen's four interceptions might look intriguing at a glance, but he was one of the primary culprits behind a Philadelphia pass defense that reliably gave up big plays the last two years. Allen is a free agent and, even if he re-signs with Philadelphia, sending him to the bench figures to be one of the top goals for the Eagles this offseason.

Allen (hamstring) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Panthers.
Allen, who missed last week's game with a hamstring injury, checks back into the Eagles' lineup with 34 tackles and a sack in seven games to date.
Sun Nov 2 201411:29Allen (hamstring) inactive for Sunday's game against Texans
Allen (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Earl Wolff will start in Allen's place. We'll revisit Allen's status leading into next Monday night's game against the Panthers.
Fri Oct 31 201413:17Allen (hamstring) questionable for Sunday's game against Houston
Allen (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against Houston.
Allen has played all but nine of Philadelphia's defensive snaps this year, but he's not rated as a particularly valuable defender. If the Eagles need Earl Wolff to step in, it probably shouldn't make a big difference to Philadelphia's already mediocre defense.
Thu May 29 201411:25Allen running with starters next to Jenkins
Nate Allen is running with the Eagles' first-team defense at strong safety next to FS Malcolm Jenkins.
Allen and second-year S Earl Wolff will compete for the job. The Eagles would likely prefer Wolff take the next step in his development and win the job, but both players struggled in coverage and against the run last season. Allen was re-signed to a one-year, $2 million deal back in March.

Mon Mar 17 201410:02Eagles give S Nate Allen another chance
Eagles re-signed S Nate Allen to a one-year, $1 million contract.
Allen, the No. 37 overall pick in 2010, was a horrific bust through his first three seasons. But he showed enough improvement last season that the Eagles are going to give him another chance. He'll likely compete with a draft pick to be a third safety behind Malcolm Jenkins and Earl Wolff.

Wed Jan 8 201409:00Nate Allen thinks he could be back with PHL
Impending free agent S Nate Allen thinks there's a good chance he'll re-sign with the Eagles.
Beat writer Les Bowen notes that Allen might have improved more any defender on the Eagles roster during the 2013 season. That's because he set such a low bar through his first three NFL seasons and the beginning of this season. Allen still graded out 84th among 88 qualifying safeties in Pro Football Focus' ranks this season and will not find a warm market come March. Improving the back end of the secondary should be a major priority for GM Howie Roseman.

Wed Sep 4 201311:46Nate Allen earns starting safety job for PHL
Nate Allen and Patrick Chung will be the Eagles starting safeties in Monday night's opener against the Redskins.
Allen rotated with rookie Earl Wolff throughout the preseason and will continue to do so into the regular season. It's a gaping hole in an Eagles defense that is going to struggle badly this year. Their trio of safeties is arguably the worst in the entire NFL. In the 2010 draft, the Eagles used the No. 13 pick on DE Brandon Graham, passing on No. 14 pick S Earl Thomas and No. 15 pick Jason Pierre-Paul.

Mon May 13 201320:19Allen, Chung open OTAs as starting safeties
Nate Allen and Pat Chung opened OTAs as the Eagles' starting safeties.
Allen is getting the first crack at free safety, but Kenny Phillips will also get plenty of first-team reps and should probably come away with the job by Week 1. Allen is entering the final year of his contract, and the former second-round pick is running out of chances to prove himself.

Sun Apr 14 201318:46Clock ticking on Nate Allen in Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Inquirer confirms the "clock is ticking" on fourth-year S Nate Allen's time with the Eagles.
Allen's 2013 roster spot should be safe because he costs just $642,000, but this could be his final year in Philly after the signings of Kenny Phillips and Pat Chung. Allen was an NFL Defensive ROY candidate in 2010 before rupturing his patellar tendon that December. He hasn't been half the player ever since.

Fri Mar 15 201308:16Nate Allen still in mix for starting job
The Philadelphia Inquirer expects Nate Allen to stay in the mix for the starting free safety job.
Newly signed Kenny Phillips is far from guaranteed the gig. He's had chronic knee issues and is working on a team-friendly one-year contract. Although Allen has been a disappointment since going 37th overall in the 2010 draft, he could benefit greatly from the Eagles' scheme change.

Fri Feb 1 201309:31Eagles expected to address safety position
The Eagles are expected to address the safety position this offseason.
The Philly Mag: Birds 24/7 Blog says to "not be surprised" if the Eagles add help through free agency and the draft. Safeties Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman are entering the final years of their rookie deals, while Colt Anderson is a restricted free agent. So, by the time Week 1 rolls around, Philadelphia could look awfully different on the back end.

Mon Nov 5 201219:21Eagles FS Allen inactive for Monday night
Eagles FS Nate Allen (hamstring) is inactive for Monday night's game against the Saints.
Allen didn't practice on Friday or Saturday and was a true game-time decision. Trainers kept a close eye on him during pregame warm-ups but ended up not giving Allen the green light. David Sims will start at free safety. The Eagles also declared DE Darryl Tapp, DE Vinny Curry, WR Mardy Gilyard, RG Danny Watkins, OL Nate Menkin, and QB Trent Edwards inactive. Tapp's wife is having a baby, so DT Mike Patterson will take his place along the defensive line. Dennis Kelly will start at right guard in place of Watkins.

Sat Nov 3 201214:20Nate Allen misses practice again on Saturday
Eagles FS Nate Allen (hamstring) missed practice again on Saturday and is officially listed as questionable for Monday night versus the Saints.
Allen is going to travel with the team and get treatment up until game time. If he can't suit up, David Sims is expected to get the start. Sims has never played a defensive snap in the NFL, so Jimmy Graham could have a monster night over the deep middle.

Sat Nov 3 201209:27Nate Allen missed Friday's practice
Eagles FS Nate Allen (hamstring) did not participate in Friday's practice.
This is an extremely concerning development for an Eagles team that lacks depth at the safety position. Allen first injured his hamstring in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' Week 6 loss to the Lions. Colt Anderson came in to replace him, and struggled in that role. If Allen cannot play, it's expected the Eagles call on David Sims and not Anderson to start on Monday night in New Orleans.
