Tue Aug 11 201517:36Arenas signed by Jets Tuesday
Arenas was signed by the Jets Tuesday, NJ.com reports.
Arenas was added after defensive end Ikemefuna Enemkpali was cut from the team for punching Geno Smith. He's played for three NFL teams, appearing in 69 games, 12 of which he started. During his career, he recorded two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He's also been used as a kickoff and punt returner. His versatility could put him in the mix to compete for a roster spot.

Arenas recorded nine tackles and a pass defensed in six games with the Falcons in 2014.
Arenas saw limited work with the Falcons in 2014, and he'll be a free agent this offseason. Based on the young depth the Falcons have at cornerback, it seems likely that Arenas will look elsewhere for a more prominent defensive role.
Tue Mar 18 201416:49Falcons add corner/return man Javier Arenas
Falcons agreed to terms with CB/KR Javier Arenas, formerly of the Cardinals, on a one-year contract.
The 2010 second-round pick of the Chiefs appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, but managed only 107 snaps on defense. He was near the bottom of the league in kick-return average. Arenas won't be guaranteed a spot on the Falcons' 53-man roster.

Wed May 1 201313:35Cards acquire former 2nd-rounder CB Arenas
Cardinals acquired CB Javier Arenas from the Chiefs in exchange for FB Anthony Sherman.
A nickel corner, Arenas was expected to be a return ace when the Chiefs made him the No. 50 overall pick of the 2010 draft, but he's proven to be highly ordinary on special teams. He'll be a candidate to man the slot in Arizona, but the presence of Patrick Peterson and rookie Tyrann Mathieu mean he's unlikely to be featured on returns. Arenas played a career-high 724 snaps last season, but graded out as just the No. 51 corner in Pro Football Focus' ratings. The Cardinals have now added Arenas, Antoine Cason and Jerraud Powers at cornerback this offseason. Mathieu will play safety, but could eventually see time in the slot.

Wed Jan 30 201314:03Arenas triggers small salary escalator
Chiefs RCB Javier Arenas' 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives.
After starting three games in his first two seasons, Arenas started nine games at right corner in 2012. He opened the season as the slot corner, but Stanford Routt proved to be a free agent bust after the Chiefs lost Brandon Carr to the Cowboys. Arenas also works as Kansas City's primary punt returner.

Fri Sep 9 201111:01Chiefs plan 'complete mix' on kick returns
Coach Todd Haley plans a "complete mix" of Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster, and Steve Breaston on kick returns this season.
The distribution will depend on each player's workload on offense or defense that game. Arenas and McCluster figure to be the primary returners on punts and kickoffs respectively, with Breaston filling in to give a breather.

Mon Dec 13 201010:45Arenas leaves game after big hit
Chiefs CB/PR Javier Arenas left Sunday's game against the Chargers in the second half after a big hit.
Arenas was covering a punt when he got crushed by a block. He was able to walk off under his own power, but it's unclear if he suffered a concussion. Travis Daniels filled in as the nickel back.

Sat Aug 14 201015:50Arenas shows return potential in opener
In addition to a 42-yard kickoff return, Chiefs second-rounder Javier Arenas also had a 99-yard return touchdown called back on penalty.
Fellow rookie Dexter McCluster, expected to be Arenas' primary competition on kickoffs, didn't return any kicks. Arenas should have both jobs to himself this season as one of the league's most dangerous return specialists.

Wed Jul 28 201018:03Chiefs sign Javier Arenas
Chiefs signed rookie CB/PR Javier Arenas, the No. 50 overall pick, to a four-year contract.
Already ticketed for nickel back and punt returning duties in Kansas City, Arenas will be one of the busiest second-round picks in the league this season. He shouldn't have trouble beating out Donald Washington and Maurice Leggett for the No. 3 cornerback job behind Brandons Carr and Flowers.

Sat Jun 19 201012:59Arenas already lining up as third corner
Second-round rookie Javier Arenas is already lining up as the Chiefs' third cornerback.
The Chiefs' secondary depth was embarrassing heading into the offseason, so it's no surprise that Arenas is in line for a significant role. His biggest impact as a rookie will likely be in the return game, where he'll compete with Dexter McCluster. The Chiefs are already getting more out of this year's rookie class than last year's.

Fri Apr 23 201019:34Chiefs grab Alabama CB Javier Arenas
Chiefs selected Alabama CB Javier Arenas with the No. 50 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
Dexter McCluster won't be returning kicks for the Chiefs after all. A special teams All-American last year, Arenas averaged 29 yards on kickoff returns and 16.3 yards on punt returns. He'll give the Chiefs' return game a shot in the arm immediately. Arenas projects as just a slot corner on defense and may take over the role as a rookie.
