Sun Mar 16 201410:39DE Tyson Alualu now a backup with Jaguars
Jaguars DE Tyson Alualu will be backup in 2014 after the team signed LE Red Bryant.
Alualu, the tenth overall pick in 2010, has started all 64 games in his pro career and played 754 defensive snaps last season. He doesn't play great run defense and brings little to the table as a pass rusher. In Alualu's defense, he's battled a troublesome knee his entire career. He may not play more than 300-400 snaps in 2014.

Sun May 26 201309:16Jaguars moved Alualu to end because of knee
The National Football Post's Dan Pompei reports part of the reason the Jaguars moved Tyson Alualu to defensive end was because of his knee troubles.
Alualu, the No. 10 overall pick in 2010, played with a knee injury for much of his first two seasons in the league, before undergoing "minor" microfracture surgery last offseason. The hope is that moving him off the nose to the Red Bryant run-stopping role takes some pressure off the balky knee.

Fri Nov 16 201212:27Alualu: Last week was the best I've felt yet
Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu said last week's game versus the Colts was the best he's felt since he entered the league as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
GM Gene Smith said this week that Alualu showed significant quickness in producing his best game of the season. Since his rookie season, Alualu has played through a knee issue that eventually required microfracture surgery. By the time he emerges as a consistent asset, Alualu's GM may be out of a job.

Sat Apr 7 201221:45Jaguars expect progress from Tyson Alualu
The Jaguars expect DT Tyson Alualu to make a ''major step forward'' in his third NFL season.
''We wouldn't have gone from 28th to fifth (ranked defense) if Tyson didn't play like he did," defensive line coach Joe Cullen said. ''He really has a chance to come into his own this year. If he's on a healthy knee he can be as explosive as he's shown in some of the games he's dominated. More splash plays, the sacks." Alualu has dealt with a knee cartilage problem since entering the league, but the Jaguars hope that surgery will correct it. He finished last year with 40 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey confirmed at the Combine that DT Tyson Alualu is recovering from postseason knee surgery.
The date and specifics of the operation are unknown, but Alualu has played through a cartilage problem in the knee since entering the league in 2010. The Jaguars hope that surgery will correct it. After a promising rookie year, Alualu was arguably the team's least effective defensive lineman in 2011. For Alualu's part, he has yet to miss a start through two NFL seasons.

Tyson Alualu (knee) has been playing at less than 100 percent for the majority of his two-year career, according to the Times Union.
Alualu has started 32 straight games despite a cartilage problem in his knee. It's not a serious injury, but it's one that nags. He admitted offseason surgery is possible. "I'm looking forward to doing whatever it takes to get my knee right," Alualu said. "Whatever it is the doctors say I need to do, I'm all for it." The No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 draft hasn't come close to being a difference-maker.

All 15 of the Jaguars' draft picks between 2009 and 2010 remain with the team.

Thu Aug 19 201016:26Alualu finally back into practice
Jaguars first-round pick Tyson Alualu (calf) finally returned to practice on Thursday.
Though Alualu's inability to participate in most of camp won't affect his starting status (it's not like the Jags have better options), it would seem to decrease the likelihood that he'll be an impact player early in the season. For now, Alualu is slated for every-down duties adjacent to NT Terrance Knighton.
