F Ryan Kelly missed all four of his field-goal attempts in 21 minutes in the Lakers' loss to the Sacramento Kings. Although Kelly benefitted from a solid second-half performance from the bench, earning him a plus-10 rating, he was a non-factor in the reserves' 53-point output.

Kelly provided 15 points (5-7 FG, 3-3 3PT), seven rebounds, three assists and a block in a 126-83 win over Maccabi on Sunday.

It's unclear what Kelly's role will be this season, but he does have some nice ability as a scoring big man. With Julius Randle returning from injury and the addition of Brandon Bass, it would be hard to imagine Kelly carving out a significant role with the team this season.

Kelly missed 29 of the first 31 games of the 2014-15 season while dealing with a torn right hamstring, and he wasn't able to be very effective offensively upon returning. He finished the season with averages of 6.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24 minutes.

Kelly regressed in his second NBA season, especially with his efficiency on offense. After shooting 42 percent in his rookie year, Kelly shot just 33.7 percent this season. Kelly is seen as someone who should be able to stretch the floor at the power forward position, but he still made no progress in his 3-point shooting accuracy, hitting just 33.6 percent of his attempts from behind the arc. While his struggles may have been a result of his hamstring injury, he was still healthy for the final 50 games of the regular season and there was not much progress made. With just one guaranteed year left on his contract, Kelly will have to make great improvements to multiple aspects of his game if he wants to find a job with a team beyond next season.

Kelly was on a mission Tuesday. Before fouling out after 37 minutes, he chucked up 17 field goal attempts but was only able to put three of them through the hoop to finish with eight points, two rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one three-pointer.

Kelly has been playing over 30 minutes per game for the last two weeks, but he's only attempted double-digit shot attempts in two of the eight games during that span. He's been surprisingly helpful in the assists category, averaging 4.0 per game in March, and he's had a four-block game and a couple two-steal games recently. There are things to like about his unforeseen production, but Kelly's primary asset is supposed to be his shooting, and he's been pretty pretty underwhelming there. He's getting big minutes on a terrible team. The diversity of his stats are intriguing, but it's hard to see the light at the end of the NBA tunnel for Kelly unless he gets on a team that can utilize him in a consistently significant role.

Kelly will start at power forward Tuesday against the Thunder.

Kelly's starting gig will come at the expense of Jordan Hill, who will come off the bench Tuesday. With the Lakers long out of contention, they can experiment with certain lineup combinations, including having Kelly play his more natural power forward position. In 20 starts this season, Kelly has managed just 5.9 points in 23.1 minutes.

Kelly will move to the bench for Sunday's game against the Mavericks, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Kelly will come off the bench Sunday to provide relief at both the small and power forward positions. Coach Byron Scott has switched up his starting five many times this season so it's possible for Kelly to regain his spot before the season comes to an end.

Kelly posted 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 27 minutes of action Sunday against the Thunder.

Kelly is averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists over the last five games, and continues to log 20-plus minutes each night. He's not contributing enough to be worth owning in most leagues, so Sunday's solid performance can be overlooked.

Kelly scored 20 points (6-14 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and added five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 33 minutes against the Magic Friday.

It would be easy to consider Friday's result a random outlier and ignore it. After all, it marks only the second time in 19 appearances this season that Kelly has either played more than 30 minutes or scored double digits. While the outlier theory is possible, if not probable, an alternative explanation could also be true. Last March, Kelly averaged 10.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 1.2 threes in 26 minutes per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free throw line. Kelly is only in his sophomore season, and he was battling a hamstring injury for most of the early part of this season. Keep an eye on Kelly over the next few games.

Kelly has returned to the Lakers and is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Knicks.

The fact that Kelly was in the D-League one day and in the starting lineup the next goes to show how poor the 2014-15 campaign has been for the Lakers. He should be deployed as usual moving forward nonetheless as an option in deeper leagues.
