Tue Feb 18 201411:50Danario Alexander likely leaving San Diego
The Chargers aren't expected to re-sign free agent Danario Alexander.
Beat writer Michael Gehlken puts the chances Alexander re-ups with the Bolts at "very low." DX has had seven knee surgeries -- five on his left, two on his right -- and may never play again. Alexander's talent is undeniable when he's healthy, but unfortunately he's been unable to stay on the field. He might get a one-year deal.

Fri Feb 7 201401:06Danario Alexander has additional ACL surgery
Free agent Danario Alexander underwent a second surgery on his torn right ACL in January.
Alexander tore the ACL on August 6 and had surgery on August 15. Per the Union-Tribune San Diego, Alexander's latest procedure was a "revision ACL surgery" performed as a "followup," and may make him "unavailable" for the start of 2014 training camp. Sources say "DX" still hopes to play next season, though he's considered "unlikely" to be re-signed by the Chargers. Alexander has now undergone two right knee surgeries and a whopping five operations on his left knee stemming from recurring college injuries. His career is in obvious doubt.

Fri Aug 16 201319:49Chargers waived/injured Danario Alexander
Chargers waived/injured WR Danario Alexander.
Alexander tore his right ACL on August 6 and had reconstructive surgery on August 15. The quickness with which the procedure was performed suggests DX's ACL tear was clean and affected no other ligaments. It will be interesting to see whether any team takes a flier on him via the waiver process. To do so, they'd have to pay Alexander's full $1.323 million salary for a lost year. Alexander is a free agent in 2014, so we suspect he won't be claimed.

Fri Aug 16 201308:35Danario Alexander undergoes surgery
Danario Alexander (torn right ACL) underwent successful surgery Thursday.
The Union-Tribune San Diego expects DX to be waived/injured in the near future. That means he'll have to pass through waivers before landing on injured reserve. Alexander's $1.23 million salary and daunting injury history should ensure he goes unclaimed.

Tue Aug 6 201314:49Danario Alexander tweaks knee in practice
Danario Alexander tweaked his right knee in Tuesday's practice.
We typically avoid posting about training camp injuries before it's clear they're a concern, but any knee ailment is a concern for the famously-brittle DX. It's Alexander's left knee that's given him the most trouble - aka, five surgeries - but it's still not a positive development. It's quite possible today's news won't amount to anything, but it serves as a timely reminder of Alexander's inability to stay healthy.

Fri Jul 26 201311:33Danario Alexander hoping to play full season
Chargers WR Danario Alexander is hoping to play all 16 games this season.
Alexander has a long history of knee injures and has yet to put together a full season, but is expected to be the Chargers' No. 1 receiver when healthy. "Prehabbing so I'm not rehabbing," Alexander said. "I'm just trying to take advantage of every rep, play this game until the wheels fall off. I'm not going to make any predictions, but I'm feeling confident."

Tue Jul 16 201309:12Chargers want Rivers to get ball out quick
New coach Mike McCoy reiterated that the Chargers are going to scale back Philip Rivers' aggression this season.
Rivers has proven he's no longer capable of executing the vertical scheme Norv Turner left behind. "We got to get him going back to the basics," McCoy said Monday. "Take what the defense gives you. Don't be afraid to check it down. You don't have to make that big play every play." The Chargers want the ball out of Rivers' hand quickly, thus hiding their woeful offensive line and raising his completion percentage. It's not an ideal scheme for a guy like Danario Alexander, who excels at making big plays down the field.

Thu Apr 25 201315:24Danario Alexander signs RFA tender
Chargers re-signed restricted free agent Danario Alexander to a one-year, $1.323 million contract.
Alexander drew scant interest in free agency, but teams weren't willing to commit major dollars to a receiver that has undergone multiple knee surgeries. Alexander will almost certainly be a starter in San Diego. Vincent Brown should give Malcom Floyd a run for his money on the opposite side.

Sat Apr 20 201313:32Danario Alexander doesn't sign offer sheet
Restricted free agent WR Danario Alexander did not sign an offer sheet with another team prior to Friday night's 12:00 AM ET deadline.
The Chargers gambled by only tendering Alexander, 24, at the lowest level where they would have received no compensation, but it paid off. "Two to three teams" reportedly poked around DX, but the Chargers were going to match any reasonable offer. It wouldn't have made sense to commit major dollars to Alexander and his troublesome knees. He has yet to sign his tender, but Alexander will be back to form a solid trio at receiver with Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown.

Tue Apr 16 201310:44Danario Alexander expected at minicamp
Restricted free agent Danario Alexander is expected to be on the field when the Chargers' voluntary minicamp begins Tuesday.
Much like Giants restricted free agent Andre Brown, Alexander has an injury protection agreement in place. His arrival Tuesday will put him in the good graces of the new coaching regime and prove he has no intention of holding out despite ripping off a 34/597/7 line over the final eight games of last season. We're not expecting DX to get an offer sheet before Friday's deadline.

Wed Apr 10 201318:48Browns may be interested in RFA WR Alexander
The Sideline View's Adam Caplan believes the Chargers will match any "reasonable" offer for restricted free agent Danario Alexander, but calls the Browns a "team to keep an eye on."
Per Caplan, a "few teams" are mulling a run at Alexander. "DX" would be reuniting with OC Norv Turner in Cleveland, who watched Alexander explode for a 34/597/7 line after joining the starting lineup in Week 10 last season. Alexander would make a solid, young Browns' receiver corps even more formidable, but his injury history should ensure any offer to lure him away from San Diego is modest.

Thu Apr 4 201323:052-3 teams poking around on Danario Alexander
The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports there are two to three teams showing some interest in restricted free agent WR Danario Alexander.
Caplan doesn't specify which teams, but he adds that clubs don't want to waste their time if they think San Diego will match any offer sheet. The Chargers tendered Alexander at the original-pick level, and they've left themselves vulnerable to being pick-pocketed since DX wasn't drafted. Teams have until April 19 to make offers to restricted free agents like Alexander.

Sat Mar 9 201311:00Chargers give 'DX' lowest possible RFA tender
Chargers assigned the original-pick tender to restricted free agent WR Danario Alexander.
The move is surprising and may indicate San Diego's new front office isn't thrilled with Alexander's knees. Rather than tender Alexander at the first- or second-round level -- and protect themselves with draft-pick compensation if a team tries signing him away -- the Chargers have left themselves open to being pick-pocketed. Alexander was originally undrafted, and San Diego would receive nothing in return if a club signed him to an offer sheet and the Bolts failed to match. Alexander is 24 years old. In a nine-game stretch last year, he racked up 37 catches for 658 yards and seven touchdowns -- numbers that extrapolate to 66/1,170/13 if prorated across 16 games.

Sun Dec 30 201220:27Danario Alexander gets another TD in finale
Danario Alexander caught one pass for a 34-yard touchdown in the Chargers' Week 17 win over the Raiders.
Alexander saw just two targets as the Chargers rode their special teams to the victory. That didn't stop DX from making a big play, something he did with ease over the final eight games of the season. During that span, he caught 34 passes for 597 yards and seven touchdowns. The Chargers will certainly bring back Alexander as a restricted free agent this offseason, leaving him as an intriguing WR2 candidate in 2013. He's clearly Philip Rivers' No. 1 wideout.

Fri Dec 28 201223:53Danario Alexander to receive 1st-round tender
The Chargers are expected to assign impending restricted free agent WR Danario Alexander with a tender "as high as the first round" this offseason.
A first-round tender would give San Diego the right of first refusal should another team try to sign Alexander to a multi-year deal, and a first-round pick as compensation should that team formally acquire Alexander. In other words, it would lock Alexander into being a Charger in 2013. The price of first-round restricted tenders in 2013 is expected to be an affordable $2.879 million.

Sun Dec 23 201219:08DX finds the end zone in Week 16 win
Danario Alexander caught three passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in San Diego's Week 16, 27-17 win over the Jets.
Alexander reeled in three of his six targets and worked mostly against Antonio Cromartie with Malcom Floyd now ending the season on injured reserve. Considering how shut down Cromartie has been this season, it's a respectable stat line for DX. The San Dego defense sacked Greg McElroy 11 times on the day and was the sole reason for the victory. Alexander will get his first look at the Raiders in Week 17.

Sun Dec 16 201219:48Danario Alexander held catch-less in Week 15
Danario Alexander was held catch-less in the Chargers' Week 15 loss to the Panthers.
He was targeted three times. Philip Rivers had no time to throw against a swarming Carolina defense, and was inaccurate on the rare occasions he did. It's hindsight analysis at this point, but San Diego's offensive dysfunction was bound to catch up to Alexander in the box score. It did -- with a thud -- in fantasy semifinals week. Facing Antonio Cromartie's Jets in Week 16, Alexander will be a riskier roll of the dice in title games.

Wed Dec 12 201209:45Danario still seeing single coverage
Coach Norv Turner said defenses are yet to adjust to Danario Alexander.
Over the last five weeks, Alexander has 30 catches for 494 yards and five touchdowns. "He's still seeing a lot of single coverage, a lot of matchups where he's not getting the best (defensive back)," Turner said. "He's getting the third DB, and he's taking advantage of it, and I think we're taking advantage of it." Alexander might start seeing some more coverage roll his way, but it's not a huge concern. The 6'5/217 monster has more than enough talent to overcome it.
