Thomas never climbed higher than sixth on the Bears' training camp depth chart at running back, and accordingly, saw only five carries in the preseason, all of which came in the first exhibition. The early camp cut doesn't bode well for Thomas' NFL future, especially after he provided a pathetic 3.6 yards per carry average during his previous four seasons in the league.

While Matt Forte is clearly atop the Bears' running back depth chart, Thomas joins the team's complementary/backup mix, a group that also includes Jacquizz Rodgers, Ka'Deem Carey, Jeremy Langford and Senorise Perry. Thomas, who was made a second-round draft choice by the Dolphins in 2011, carried the ball 44 times for 168 yards and two TDs in 12 games for Miami this past season. Now that he's part of the Chicago backfield equation, he's still a break or two away from fantasy consideration.

Thomas was re-signed by the Dolphins due to the injury to Knowshon Moreno but did little to nothing to show that he deserves to be back with the team in 2015.

Thomas seems to have solidified the backup running back job ahead of Damien Williams, though Lamar Miller (83 yards and a touchdown Sunday) continues to get a majority of the touches out of the backfield. As long as Miller stays healthy, Thomas' fantasy value will be pretty limited.

Thomas had 35 yards rushing on five carries and caught a pass for an additional 25 yards in the Dolphins big win over Oakland on Sunday.

Thomas was resigned after the injury to Knowshon Moreno and actually looks like a different player as he is running with authority and not tip toeing behind the line of scrimmage. He won't see more than a handful of touches each game but may not be as worthless as he once looked.

How much action Thomas might see out of the gate figures to hinge on Miller's status, but in terms of knowledge of the Dolphins' offense, Thomas is essentially a plug and play option.

Thomas was one of four players that the Patriots had in for a workout on Monday, ESPN.com reports.

We suspect that the Patriots are simply keeping the players in mind in case injuries hit, with no signings reported to be imminent. In any case, Thomas is stilling looking for NFL work after being released by the Dolphins in advance of Week 1.
