Sun Aug 24 201412:10Dowling released by Jets on Sunday
Dowling was released by the Jets on Sunday, ESPN New York reports.
Dowling, who has finished both of his previous NFL seasons on injured reserve, dealt with foot and groin injuries during training camp. So even with the Jets sorely lacking at cornerback, Dowling has been cut loose to open opportunity elsewhere.
Tue Aug 19 201413:11Dowling (groin) through positional drills Tuesday
Dowling (groin) went through positional drills Tuesday, ESPN New York reports.
Dowling injured his foot during the onset of training camp and has nursed a groin injury recently as well. While the cornerback was able to play in the Jets' opening preseason game, he was held out of their most recent outing against the Bengals. However, with New York currently sorting out a messy situation at cornerback, Dowling's return should help his chances of earning playing time.
Sat Jun 7 201415:18Ras-I Dowling impressing at OTAs
The Jets have been impressed with CB Ras-I Dowling during OTAs.
Dowling is currently working with the second-team defense, but will push for a role in sub-packages if Kyle Wilson continues to struggle. The Jets want to use Dimitri Patterson as their nickel slot corner, so one of Dowling, Darrin Walls, or Dexter McDougle could see snaps on the outside. Dowling has been a major disappointment since being the 33rd overall pick in 2011 and will need to have a healthy and productive camp to guarantee his roster spot.

Mon Jan 6 201417:09Jets sign CB Ras-I Dowling
Jets signed CB Ras-I Dowling to a reserve/future contract.
Dowling has been a complete bust since the Patriots made him the 33rd overall pick in the 2011 draft, appearing in nine career games and enduring countless injuries. Rex Ryan is a master at getting the most out of defenders, however, and Dowling has ability. He will spend the offseason program as a Jet.

It's Dowling's first known workout since getting cut by the Patriots in late-August. Texans starting corners Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson both did not practice Wednesday. Free agent CBs Jalil Brown and Myron Lewis also joined Dowling, the No. 33 overall pick in the 2011 draft, at the workout.

Thu Aug 29 201317:26Ras-I Dowling goes unclaimed on waivers
Former Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling passed through waivers unclaimed Thursday.
The No. 33 overall pick in the 2011 draft is now a free agent. It's not surprising he went unclaimed, though some national media pundits are shocked simply because of his aforementioned draft status. Dowling was injury-prone at Virginia. That carried over into the pros. He played in just nine games for the Pats.

Wed Aug 28 201316:48Pats give up on 2011 second-round CB Dowling
Patriots waived CB Ras-I Dowling.
The No. 33 overall pick, Dowling was considered on the bubble going into camp, and didn't show enough to keep his roster spot. It's rare for a team to pull the plug on such a high draft pick after only two years, but Dowling left the Pats little choice. Injury prone in college, Dowling has lived up to his reputation in the pros, appearing in just nine of a possible 32 games. His play has been decidedly ordinary in the 176 snaps he's managed to take the field for. Dowling's draft pedigree could earn him a look on waivers, but it's possible he's already viewed as damaged goods.

Mon Jul 22 201312:24Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling on roster bubble
ESPN Boston considers Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling on the roster bubble.
Even with Alfonzo Dennard facing legal troubles, Dowling isn't considered a lock for the 53-man roster. The 33rd overall pick in 2011, Dowling has struggled with injuries and effectiveness in his first two seasons. He needs to put together a strong training camp to avoid being cut.

Fri May 3 201311:47Ras-I Dowling enters make or break year
ESPN Boston considers 2013 a "make-or-break" year for Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling.
Injury prone at Virginia, Dowling has stayed on the shelf in the pros, tearing his quad last October after rupturing a tendon in his leg as a rookie and undergoing offseason hip surgery. Dowling was the 33rd pick in the 2011 draft. He's been an utter bust through two seasons. He may have to display special teams value to win a spot behind Aqib Talib, Alfonzo Dennard, and Kyle Arrington.

Patriots placed CB Ras-I Dowling on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps muscle, ending his season.
It's the second time in Dowling's two-year career that his season will end prematurely on I.R. The 33rd overall pick in the 2011 draft, Dowling was also injury prone at Virginia. He may have to battle for a roster spot in 2013.

Sat Oct 6 201221:57Dowling no longer playing in sub-defenses
The Patriots have removed Ras-I Dowling as their primary nickel corner.
Dowling saw extensive playing time in the season opener, but has since been limited to special teams. The Patriots are going with Kyle Arrington as the starter opposite Devin McCourty in their base defense, with Sterling Moore moving to right cornerback in nickel and dime packages.

Fri Jul 6 201212:48Ras-I Dowling participated fully in offseason
Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling (hip surgery) participated fully in all offseason activities.
Dowling's health will be a key piece of the Patriots' defense. If 100 percent, he's likely to win the right corner job, thus allowing Kyle Arrington to move inside to the slot. Dowling was able to play in just two contests last season as the Patriots gave up 293.9 yards passing per game.

Sun Jun 17 201213:00Patriots CB Dowling will start if healthy
Pro Football Weekly is hearing that, if healthy, Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling (hip surgery) will start opposite of Devin McCourty.
He'd be getting the nod over Kyle Arrington, who, after putting up an NFL-high seven interceptions last season, would work the slot in nickel situations. After being selected 33rd in the 2011 draft, Dowling starter in the season opener, but appeared in only two games due to injury.

Fri May 25 201216:08Ras-I Dowling struggling with health at OTAs
Though second-year CB Ras-I Dowling (hip surgery) is participating in Patriots OTAs, he's reportedly looked "very stiff" and appears to be "working his way back from the ground floor."
Dowling's surgery repaired a torn tendon in his leg from last September. A rookie starter in Week 1, Dowling is now seeing few OTA reps while apparently still trying to heal from the injury. Dowling will have to hold off Sterling Moore, Will Allen, and Alfonzo Dennard for snaps behind RCB Kyle Arrington and LCB Devin McCourty. We wouldn't bet on Dowling being a big 2012 contributor.

Sun May 20 201209:19No setbacks for Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling
Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling (hip surgery) is progressing in his recovery and has suffered no setbacks.
Originally expected to pass on surgery and return in November, Dowling had the recommended "clean-up" and is well on his way to a full recovery. He will work out with the team in OTAs this week. Dowling is currently penciled in as the team's No. 3 corner behind Kyle Arrington and Devin McCourty.

Mon Feb 27 201214:04Report: Dowling underwent surgery after all
ESPN Boston reports Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling ended up undergoing a surgical procedure on his upper leg/hip after all.
Dowling was initially expected to forego surgery after tearing a tendon near his hip, but the medical staff decided a "clean-up" would add stability. Dowling has made "great progress" and is "hitting all his checkpoints" in rehab.

Mon Feb 27 201210:19Dowling's rehab going 'very well
SI.com's Peter King reports Patriots CB Ras-I Dowling's (hip) rehab is going "very well," and he'll be ready for "most, if not all" of New England's offseason work.
It would be troubling if Dowling's rehab wasn't going "very well," as he was originally forecasted to be 100 percent by November. Plagued by injury since his final season at Virginia, Dowling enters 2012 as a major question mark.
