The Sacramento Kings have claimed guard Lamar Patterson off waivers from the Atlanta Hawks, multiple outlets reported.Houston waived the 24-year-old to make room for the signings of center Dwight Howard and forward Kris Humphries.Patterson was selected No. 48 overall in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He was then traded to Atlanta for a 2015 second-rounder.The Lancaster, Pa., native averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 35 games with the Hawks in his rookie season last year, although he spent most of the campaiugn with Atlanta's NBA Development League affiliate, the Austin Spurs.In 19 games with Austin, Patterson averaged 12.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

The Atlanta Hawks announced Tuesday that they have waived guard Lamar Patterson.The move clears the necessary cap space to complete the signings of Dwight Howard and Kris Humphries, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Howard has agreed to a three-year, $70.5 million deal with his hometown Hawks.The Howard signing will be announced in a press conference Wednesday.Patterson, 24, is currently playing with Atlanta's summer league team and is expected to rejoin the summer league squad despite being waived.He is entering his second season in the NBA after being selected No. 48 overall in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Patterson signed a minimum contract with the Hawks on Thursday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Patterson led the Hawks in scoring during Summer League, posting 13.1 points per game. That will be enough to earn the 6-5 guard a ticket to camp on a partially-guaranteed deal. Patterson was drafted by the Bucks and traded to the Hawks on draft night in 2014, but ultimately decided to spend the year playing in Turkey. The 23-year-old seemingly has a decent shot at breaking the edge of the rotation in 2015-16.
