Sun Oct 13 201922:30Celtics, Zion remain sizzling to start preseason
Preseason numbers often mean almost nothing. Rotations are unusual, starters rarely play much, and few if any teams are putting a premium on winning games. As such, it's tough to glean much from exhibition stats. But what the Boston Celtics and New Orleans rookie Zion Williamson — the No. 1 pick in this year's draft — have been doing so far in the preseason certainly stands out.The Celtics are 3-0 after beating Cleveland on Sunday — and have put together a huge run in all three of those games. The latest was a 50-17 spurt against the Cavaliers, a game that was close for most of the first quarter before Boston built what eventually became a 54-point lead.Boston's other big runs of note in this preseason were a 41-17 stretch last Sunday against Charlotte, and opening the game with a 29-4 burst at Orlando on Friday. On top of the 50-17 run against the Cavs, they added a 26-8 run in the fourth quarter as well.No matter who the Celtics have on the court, defense has been the constant. Boston is... [More]

The Milwaukee Bucks signed shooting guard James Young to a training camp contract on Wednesday.Young, 22, was the No. 17 overall pick by the Boston Celtics in 2014 after spending one season at Kentucky. Young averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 89 games for the Celtics.Young averaged 18.7 points for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League while bouncing back and forth over the last few seasons. He will fight for a roster spot on a Milwaukee team that already has Khris Middleton, Jason Terry and Rashad Vaughn on the roster at the shooting guard spot. The Bucks also added rookie guards Sterling Brown and Bronson Koenig earlier in the offseason and return reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon in the backcourt.

Young said he has added 20 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-7 frame since being drafted by the Celtics last June, A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com reports.
Young got off to a rough start to his rookie season, as a car accident weeks before the 2014 NBA Draft resulted him missing the entire summer league and miss out on valuable development time. The swingman never seemed to recover from that setback, as he made just 31 appearances on the season for the Celtics while averaging only 10.7 minutes per game. The 20-year-old was never expected to carve out a major role in his first NBA season, but after using the rookie year as a growing experience, he should be able to contribute more in 2015-16. The Celtics will turn to Young for some sharpshooting off the bench initially, and if he excels in that capacity, he could challenge the likes of Avery Bradley, Evan Turner, and Jae Crowder for more minutes at either wing spot.

Young plans to work out with the Thunders' Kevin Durant this offseason, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports.
The two players share the same agent, and it was Durant who reached out to Young. Spending most of his time in the D-League last season, the 19-year-old forward was limited in summer league due to a hip issue. In five games, he averaged 9.4 points on 27 percent shooting while converting 5-of-22 three-pointers. The Celtics are bereft of adequate three-point shooters, and this may be Young's opportunity to carve out a role on such a deep team.

Young (hip) will play in Thursday's summer league game, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reports.
Young has been battling a bruised hip for the past week, and he's now dealing with a minor knee issue as well. The 2014 first-round pick is yet to play in Las Vegas, but he'll make his debut Thursday and will look to demonstrate that he's made significant strides after spending considerable time in the D-League as a rookie.

Young (Hip) will not play in Saturday's summer league game against the Blazers and will try to play Sunday, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports.
Young was struggling enough before the hip injury, so playing hobbled in Sunday's game might not be the best of moves. He doesn't lose much by missing a couple of extra summer league games. The Celtics might get cautious with the former first-rounder, so Young's status for Sunday is a mystery until confirmation from the team.

Young (hip) left Thursday's summer league game with a bruised hip and will not return, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reports.
Young hasn't played well so far this summer league, averaging just 10.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists during the two outings previous to Thursday. He's also shot just 27 percent from the field and a brutal 17 percent from the three-point line during those games, so it's clearly been a struggle. It isn't certain how severe the injury is, but the Celtics weren't going to take any chances considering it's only the summer league. We'll have to wait and see if he suits up for the Celtic's next matchup.

Young claims to have added 20 pounds to his body and plans to attack the rim more often this season, A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com reports.
Young flourished in the D-League last season, averaging 21.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 17 contests, but barely registered a blip on the NBA radar. After missing summer league and training camp during his rookie season due to an automobile accident, the 19-year old shooting guard will make his summer league debut Monday alongside Marcus Smart.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge confirmed Thursday that Young will play for the Celtics' summer league team, Scott Souza of MetroWest Daily reports.
The rookie out of Kentucky saw time in only 31 games for the Celtics this season, spending time in the D-League in what was mostly a developmental rookie year. One of the better shooters in the 2014 draft class, Young figures to have a future with the team, and summer league will be an opportunity for him to showcase his improvement. The Celtics will field a team for both the Las Vegas Summer League and the Rocky Mountain Revue league in Salt Lake City.

Young appeared in 31 games during his rookie season with Boston, averaging 11 minutes, 3.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.5 made threes per game.
The 19 year old rookie had a bumpy season with Boston, occasionally being assigned to the D-League to get more playing time. When drafted last summer from Kentucky, it was widely known he was a work in progress. The Celtics could use more outside shooting, so if Young can demonstrate improvement during Summer League action, his role with Boston could expand.
Tue Mar 24 201516:50Young reassigned to NBA's D-League on Tuesday
Young was reassigned to the NBA's D-League on Tuesday, Jay King of MassLive.com reports.
Young has gone back and forth throughout his rookie season, and while he's spent most of his time with the NBA squad, he's only averaging 10.3 minutes in 30 appearances. He'll be worth keeping an eye on during summer league action, assuming he plays.
Sat Mar 21 201520:17Young recalled from Maine of NBA's D-League on Saturday
Young was recalled from Maine of the NBA's D-League on Saturday, the Celtics' official site reports.
After his recent assignment with the Red Claws, Young now boasts averages of 22.4 points (on 49 percent shooting), 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 three-pointers, two assists, and 1.5 steals in 33 minutes across 11 games. With Marcus Smart (suspension) and Isaiah Thomas (back) out of the lineup, Young should garner some decent run on the wing Sunday against the Hornets.
Tue Mar 17 201515:18Young assigned to D-League on Tuesday
Young was assigned to the D-League on Tuesday, NBA.com reports.
Young has already played nine games for the Red Claws this season, posting averages of 23.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in just under 34 minutes per game.

Young came off the bench for 18 minutes in Friday's game against the Kings. He finished with four points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-5 FT), two rebounds, and one steal.
The rookie has picked up some steam in February but still doesn't see enough time on the court to make him a viable option in standard leagues. Unless something unfortunate happens to Avery Bradley or Marcus Smart, Young will likely stay in a limited role off the bench under coach Brad Stevens for the remainder of the season.

Young enters the All-Star break needing one of Boston's veterans to be dealt for him to see consistent playing time.
Tayshaun Prince and Marcus Thornton are possible candidates to be moved by Boston before the February 19th trade deadline. Young saw somewhat consistent playing time recently when Prince missed four games due to injury. Moving veterans would enable the struggling Celtics to develop their "Young" talent for the future.
Sun Feb 1 201510:17Young recalled from D-League to Celtics
Young has been recalled from the D-League to the Celtics.
Young has spent this season shuffling between the NBA and D-League, which should continue as the season progresses.
Sat Jan 31 201514:37Young assigned Saturday to Maine Red Claws of D-League
Young was assigned Saturday to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League.
The back-and-forth between the Celtics and the D-League continues for Young, who has yet to become a significant part of the rotation during his rookie season. Look for him to be back in Boston soon enough.

Young (illness) was active for Friday's game against the Nuggets, but didn't get into the game, earning a DNP - Coach's Decision.
Young hasn't played in three straight games now. The 19-year-old is clearly slowly moving into a role with the Celtics, but has only received sparse playing time. He's appeared in only five games this month, and averages 4.9 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

Young (illness) is listed as active for Friday's game against the Nuggets, MassLive.com reports.
The absence of Kelly Olynyk (ankle) will allow Young to remain active for this game, but since he hasn't been a consistent member of coach Brad Stevens' rotation this season, it wouldn't a surprise if he stays put on the bench all night. He's appeared in only 10 games this season, averaging merely 6.6 minutes.
Fri Jan 23 201508:55Young (illness) not active for Thursday's game against Portland
Young (illness) was not active for Thursday's game against Portland.
Young has been dealing with an illness of late, although he's rarely called into action anyways as he's only played in 10 games this season. His next opportunity to take the court will come against the Nuggets on Friday, but it's entirely possible that he'll stay on the bench even if he has returned to health.
