Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Sat Nov 12 202215:46Khem Birch Out Against The Pacers
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (knee) remains out on Saturday versus Indiana. The 30-year-old will miss his sixth straight contest as he works his way back from knee soreness. With Precious Achiuwa (ankle) and Pascal Siakam (adductor) both sidelined as well, Toronto will be shorthanded up front. Considering Fred VanVleet (illness) is questionable, Scottie Barnes may slide over to the point, which could mean extra work for Chris Boucher, who logged 31 minutes on Friday against OKC. There's also a chance Juancho Hernangomez and Otto Porter Jr. will see an uptick in production.

Thu Oct 20 202215:28Chris Boucher, Khem Birch Listed As Questionable For Friday
Toronto Raptors forward/center Chris Boucher (hamstring) and center Khem Birch (knee) are listed as questionable for Friday's clash with Brooklyn. Both players missed the team's season opener on Wednesday, as did Otto Porter Jr. (hamstring), who is also ruled out for Friday's action. These are some solid pieces missing for the Raptors, but the team still enjoyed a winning start to the campaign against Cleveland. Boucher is set to lead Toronto's bench mob once he's fully healthy, and he should be able to do enough to provide value for managers in deeper leagues. Porter Jr. could carve out a nice little role for himself as well, while Birch will likely struggle to make a mark this season.

Tue Oct 18 202223:32Khem Birch Doubtful Against Cleveland
Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch (knee) is doubtful heading into the season-opener against the visiting Cavaliers. The 30-year-old continues to deal with left knee swelling, so his availability beyond Wednesday night is also in jeopardy. With that said, Birch isn't expected to play a pivotal role for the Raptors this season, so his absence versus the Cavaliers likely won't impact many fantasy managers or the workload of his teammates.

Thu Feb 3 202218:42Khem Birch Available Against Bulls
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (nose) has been upgraded to available for Thursday's game against the Chicago Bulls. He has not appeared in a game since January 14 and underwent nose surgery. His return will impact the fantasy value of Chris Boucher, and Precious Achiuwa. It's uncertain how big of a role Birch will have in the rotation right now. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Boucher as this is a wait-and-see type of situation.

Sat Jan 15 202218:13Khem Birch Not Available For Saturday
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (nose) is not available for Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Birch suffered a nose fracture during Friday's contest. His timetable is unknown, but the organization reportedly has taken care of the issue. In the meantime, Chris Boucher should be asked to pick up the slack. He has looked fantastic lately and is a must-have option right now while he's on fire. Fantasy managers should check the waiver wire and see if Boucher is available. He should play a bigger role with Birch likely sidelined multiple games.

Fri Dec 31 202118:22Khem Birch Finally Available Again For Toronto
Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch (knee) is set to return to the court on Friday against the Clippers after missing over a month of action. The 29-year-old hasn't featured since Nov. 21. Precious Achiuwa is also available again after clearing health and safety protocols, and the duo will give Toronto some much-needed frontcourt help. With that said, Chris Boucher has put in impressive performances lately and it won't easy for Birch and Achiuwa to eat into his minutes. Justin Champagnie (health and safety protocols) is also back in the mix.

Tue Dec 28 202118:18Precious Achiuwa, Khem Birch Unavailable For Tuesday’s Game
Toronto Raptors centers Precious Achiuwaand Khem Birchhave been ruled out for Tuesday's contest against Philadelphia. The duo's absence leaves the Raptors thin in the frontcourt vs. Joel Embiid, a daunting proposition when considering the four-time All-Star's 25.5 points-per-game average this season. Whereas Achiuwa remains in the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, a return may not be far off for Birch, who entered the day questionable to play for the first time since Nov. 21. Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher stand to see the vast majority of run at the five, roles they figure to reprise as long as Achiuwa and Birch remain out of the mix.

Mon Dec 27 202122:14Khem Birch Questionable On Tuesday Night
Toronto Raptors forward/center Khem Birch is questionable for Tuesday's meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers. Birch had been sidelined for over a month because of a knee ailment and was nearing a return. However, he then entered the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, a designation he shares with many other team members, including Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleetand OG Anunoby. Siakam is also questionable, so if he can play, Birch's stock may fall. However, if he doesn't, Birch could make some noise on the fantasy end, although he may see a minutes cap and cede opportunities to Chris Boucher.

Sun Dec 26 202115:59Khem Birch Not Available On Sunday
Toronto Raptors forward/center Khem Birch will not play on Sunday versus the Cavaliers. He had been battling a right knee issue and was potentially nearing a return. However, Birch has now entered protocols, so it's unknown how long he will remain out. Pascal Siakam, Precious Achiuwa, and Isaac Bonga are in the same boat, so Chris Boucher will likely get more minutes than usual against Cleveland. As a result, Boucher is worth adding as a streamer in all seasonal formats, and he will also probably be a popular play in DFS contests, assuming the contest doesn't get postponed.

Fri Dec 17 202121:18Khem Birch Unlikely To Suit Up Saturday
Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch (knee) has been tagged as questionable to play in Saturday's game against Golden State, but he has expressed doubt that he will be healthy enough to play. Birch has not suited up since the Raptors last clashed with the Warriors back on Nov. 21, paving the way for Chris Boucher to see elevated minutes at the center spot. Birch had taken over starting duties prior to getting injured, but Toronto now boasts a glut of at the five with Precious Achiuwa (health and safety protocols) and Pascal Siakam in the mix. Even when healthy, Birch's 6.9 points per game average is not enough to vault him off the waiver wire in the majority of season-long formats.

Fri Nov 26 202119:22Khem Birch To Miss Another Game
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (knee) will miss his second straight game on Friday against the Pacers. The 29-year-old is currently dealing with swelling in his right knee, which will open the door for Precious Achiuwa to get the nod for the starting lineup. The other night against the Grizzlies, Achiuwa had 17 points while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from deep, so the potential on the offensive end is certainly there. He has already been a serviceable fantasy option throughout the year. However, his stock is even higher while Birch is out of the picture.

Wed Nov 24 202119:22OG Anunoby, Khem Birch Will Miss Wednesday’s Game
Toronto Raptors small forward OG Anunoby (hip) and center Khem Birch (knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's contest against the Grizzlies. Anunoby's absence now increases to four straight games that he has been sidelined due to a left hip pointer, with Scottie Barnes taking on a larger role on the wing in his absence. When healthy, the 24-year-old Anunoby has enjoyed a career year, averaging 20.1 points per game while getting up 17.7 shots on a nightly basis. Birch has battled injuries this year, but he has been healthy enough to start each of Toronto's three previous outings. His absence should open the door for Pascal Siakam and Precious Achiuwa to hold down the center spot until his return.

Wed Nov 24 202113:58Khem Birch Listed As Questionable For Wednesday
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (knee) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies. It sounds like he is dealing with swelling in his knee, so it wouldn't be shocking to see the Raptors hold him out of this game. He missed three games earlier in the season due to the same issue. His absence would mean more minutes for Chris Boucher, but he wouldn't be the best streaming option for Wednesday's slate.

Fri Nov 12 202121:03Precious Achiuwa, Khem Birch Questionable To Play Saturday
Toronto Raptors center Precious Achiuwa (shoulder) and Khem Birch (knee) have both been deemed questionable to suit up for Saturday's game against Detroit. Achiuwa has not yet missed a game this season, but he is coming off a 1-for-10 shooting performance in his latest outing. Having logged at least seven rebounds in 10 of his 13 games, Achiuwa retains some solid season-long appeal. Birch has been down for each of Toronto's past three games as he battles swelling in his right knee. Should either man ultimately be ruled out, Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher would be asked to take on an elevated role at the five.

Tue Nov 9 202114:37Khem Birch Likely To Miss Two More Games
Toronto Raptors forward Khem Birch (knee) will miss two more games, according to head coach Nick Nurse. He has been dealing with a right knee issue and missed his first game of the season on Sunday. Precious Achiuwa played well off the bench and could have some streaming appeal while Birch is out. Chris Boucher should see an uptick in playing time as well, but only logged in eight minutes last game. It appears Achiuwa is the better fantasy option between the two at the moment.

Mon Oct 4 202118:17Khem Birch, Gary Trent Jr. Won't Play Against Philly
Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch and guard Gary Trent Jr. (quadriceps) won't be in the lineup on Monday for the preseason opener against the Philadelphia 76ers. Birch remains away from the team while adhering to the league's health and safety protocols surrounding COVID-19, while Trent has been plagued by lingering soreness in his left quad. Pascal Siakam (shoulder) and Chris Boucher (finger) are also out, so Goran Dragic will slide over to the two spot, with Scottie Barnes and Precious Achiuwa left to handle things underneath the rim.

Sat Aug 7 202114:27Khem Birch Could Be A Sneaky Fantasy Option
Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch continues to see his fantasy value skyrocket heading into the regular season. With Pascal Siakam (shoulder) expected to miss a few months and Chris Boucher likely to see more time as a power forward, Birch has a clear path toward a consistent role as an effective fantasy option. The 28-year-old out of UNLV averaged 11.9 points, 7.6 boards, and 1.2 blocks during the 2020-21 campaign but could easily surpass those marks, primarily with a routine presence in the middle, at least until Siakam makes his way back.
