Tue Sep 15 201511:57Acho re-signed by Bears on Monday
Acho was re-signed by the Bears on Monday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Acho initially made the Bears' roster after a strong training camp, but was released just a day before the team's season-opening loss to the Packers. With defensive lineman Cornelius Washington suffering a quadriceps injury in the game and landing on injured reserve, the Bears elected to plug the open roster spot by bringing back Acho, who will fill a depth role at outside linebacker.

Acho missed Saturday's preseason loss to the Bengals due to an illness, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Though it's less than ideal for a non-roster lock to miss the all-important third exhibition, Acho should be on steady ground to break camp with the Bears after recording two sacks and an interception in the first two preseason games. He's expected to be one of the Bears' top backup options at outside linebacker behind Pernell McPhee and Jared Allen.

Acho recorded an interception and a sack in the Bears' preseason opener against the Dolphins.
The fact that Acho was on the field in the fourth quarter when both teams were playing their deep reserves suggests the linebacker's roster spot is far from secure, but he at least flashed some playmaking ability that should help his cause. The Bears are breaking in a number of converted 4-3 defensive ends as 3-4 outside linebackers this season, and Acho's existing experience at the position could work in him favor by the time final cuts are made.
Wed Apr 1 201516:03The Bears have signed Acho to one-year deal
The Bears have signed Acho to a one-year deal, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Acho, who recorded 31 tackles and a sack in 16 games for the Cards in 2014, will bolster the Bears' outside linebacker corps. While he has displayed more of an aptitude as a run-stopper of late, Acho could provide Chicago with some pass-rushing help as well. As a rookie in 2011, he recorded seven sacks for Arizona.
Thu Jul 31 201418:46Acho force in practice
Acho has been a force in practice, which coincides with John Abraham's (personal) absence from training camp, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Although Alex Okafor is working with the first-team defense at weakside linebacker, Acho took full advantage of the team's first padded practice this week, forcing a couple fumbles and generally wreaking havoc as a pass rusher. With news of Abraham's DUI arrest in June -- the second such violation in his lengthy career -- a suspension could come to pass. Whether or not that occurs, though, Acho has totaled 12 sacks in 35 career contests, which bodes well for his potential production in a linebacking corps devoid of Karlos Dansby (via free agency to the Browns) and the suspended Daryl Washington in 2014.
Sat May 24 201413:32Shaughnessy jumps Acho on the depth chart
ESPN Cardinals' reporter John Weinfuss believes OLB Sam Acho has lost his starting spot to OLB Matt Shaughnessy
Playing on a one-year, prove it deal, Shaughnessy was a revaluation last season, recording 36 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups for the Cardinals. Shaugnessy decided to stay in Arizona instead of moving to New England this offseason. Perhaps the opportunity to start was a contributing factor in that decision. Acho has never recreated the form he showed his rookie season and will likely be a rotational player in 2014.

Mon Sep 23 201312:28Cardinals place OLB Acho on injured reserve
Cardinals placed OLB Sam Acho on injured reserve with an ankle injury, ending his season.
Acho suffered the injury in Arizona's Week 3 loss to Detroit. Since an impressive rookie season (seven sacks, four forced fumbles) in 2011, Acho has seemingly flatlined as a player, and was only playing about 50 percent of the snaps in new DC Todd Bowles' defense. He's signed cheaply through 2014, but the Cards need to find a more explosive edge presence in the offseason.

Tue Nov 29 201119:17Acho developing into fierce pass rusher
Cardinals fourth-round rookie OLB Sam Acho recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery in Week 12 against the Rams.
His transition from college defensive end is going swimmingly, with five sacks in five starts since taking over for a washed-up Joey Porter. Acho's surprisingly quick development bodes well for a Cardinals defense desperately in need of a young pass rusher. He should be a fixture for 2012.
