ATLANTA (AP) — Forward Jeremy Evans, the 2012 NBA slam-dunk contest champion and six-year NBA veteran, has signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks.Evans averaged 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in 39 games with the Hawks' G League Erie affiliate this season. He was with the Hawks during training camp and played in three preseason games.The move Sunday comes two days after the Hawks announced that leading scorer Dennis Schroder will miss the remainder of the season with a medial bone bruise and a sprained left ankle.The 30-year-old Evans last played in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2015-16 season.The Hawks also recalled Tyler Cavanaugh, Josh Magette and Andrew White III from Erie.___More NBA basketball: https://apnews.com/tag/NBAbasketball

ATLANTA (AP) — Zach LaVine scored 21 points, including four free throws in the final 17 seconds to stop Atlanta's comeback, and the Chicago Bulls beat the injury-depleted Hawks 129-122 on Sunday.Bobby Portis also had 21 points for Chicago.The Hawks, already playing without injured point guard Dennis Schroder, lost Kent Bazemore to a right knee sprain and Jaylen Morris to a left ankle injury in the second quarter.Taurean Prince, who led Atlanta with a career-high 38 points, sank a 3-pointer in traffic with 1:26 remaining to cut Chicago's lead to 118-115.Prince added a four-point play with 18.3 seconds remaining, again cutting the Bulls' lead to three points at 125-122 before LaVine's free throws padded the lead.Mike Muscala also set a career high with 19 points for Atlanta.Lauri Markkanen scored 19 points and Antonio Blakeney had 14 for Chicago.Bazemore hopped off the court straight into the tunnel, headed toward the team's locker room, after landing awkwardly and hurting his knee with 5:24... The Atlanta Hawks signed guard Josh Magette to a two-way contract on Wednesday and signed undrafted rookie forward Tyler Cavanaugh.The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Magette, 27, spent time during the 2016 preseason with the Hawks and was part of the team's NBA Summer League roster in 2017.Last season, Magette started 50 games for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA G League, averaging 15.8 points, 9.4 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 35.3 minutes per contest. He led the G League in assists per game for the second straight season and was named second team All-G League.The 2017-18 season will mark the first year of two-way contracts in the NBA. Only players with four or fewer years of NBA experience are permitted to sign two-way contracts. A two-way player for the Hawks will primarily play for the team's NBA G League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks, but can spend up to 45 days with Atlanta, not including any time prior to the start of Erie's training camp and at the conclusion of their season.The 6-9, 238-pound Cavanaugh, 23, also was a member of the Hawks' Summer League team in Las Vegas.Cavanaugh spent his first two college seasons at Wake Forest before transferring to George Washington. As a graduate student at GW last season, he appeared in 35 games (all starts), leading the team in points (18.3), rebounds (8.4), free throws made (173) and attempted (204) in 32.2 minutes per contest.
