Woodhead rushed four times for 10 yards and caught five passes (on seven targets) for 66 receiving yards in Monday night's game against the Steelers.
Woodhead's four carries for 10 yards marked season-lows in the running game Monday, but the veteran compensated with 66 receiving yards that ranked second among Chargers players. Additionally, with five catches, Woodhead continued to prove his extra value in PPR formats, which should sustain itself over the course of the season, even if rookie Melvin Gordon commands the bulk of San Diego's backfield touches.

Woodhead ran eight times for 54 yards and caught 4-of-4 targets for 84 yards in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Browns.
Woodhead made a couple of really nice plays, including a career-best 61-yard catch, but his biggest contribution was on a 19-yard run in the final minute of regulation that put the Chargers in field goal range for the game-winning kick. Meanwhile, rookie RB Melvin Gordon was somewhat bottled up Sunday, rushing for just 38 yards on 12 carries. Expect Woodhead to see most of the work on passing downs and in the red zone moving forward, unless Gordon really busts out. In Week 5, Woodhead will square off against the Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Woodhead carried five times for 16 yards in Sunday's game against the Vikings and caught three of his four targets for 32 yards.
After a pair of double-digit fantasy point totals to start the season, Woodhead came back down to Earth on Sunday, as he received a season-low eight touches. He won't always find success on the ground, with Melvin Gordon handling most of those duties, but the Chargers seem committed to using his receiving skills out of the backfield and he is now averaging 40 receiving yards per game. The Browns, who just allowed 233 total yards to Oakland running backs, will visit the Chargers in Week 4.

Woodhead caught six passes for 68 yards and added 36 rushing yards on 7 carries in Sunday's loss to Cincinnati.
Through two weeks of the season, Woodhead's 13 targets rank second on the team behind Keenan Allen, a testament to the chemistry he has developed with Philip Rivers. Melvin Gordon was drafted in the first round to be the Chargers' lead back, a role he is growing into, but Woodhead remains a bye-week value as he is good for a handful of catches per game and, as he showed last week, the occasional touchdown or two.

Woodhead had 12 carries for 42 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 33-28 win over Detroit. He also caught four of seven targets for 20 yards.
Meanwhile, rookie Melvin Gordon rushed the ball 14 times for 51 yards, although he didn't score a touchdown. Woodhead's second score came from just one yard out, which is somewhat surprising since Gordon is a bigger back. In any event, Woodhead is a solid option, especially in PPR leagues.

Woodhead had six carries for 18 yards and three receptions for 19 yards in Saturday night's preseason game against the Seahawks.
Rookie Melvin Gordon started the game and got the most touches of any back, but Woodhead was heavily involved, mixing in on some first downs and playing plenty in passing situations. Expect more of the same when the regular season begins.

Playing in his first game action since suffering a broken fibula in Week 3 last year, Woodhead scored on an eight-yard run in the Chargers' preseason opener against the Cowboys.
The score was set up by a Dallas turnover, and it was Woodhead's only carry in the game. "It felt great, he said. "It's been a long process. I feel really good. The line blocked great. It was great to get out there and get in the end zone." The return of Woodhead and the drafting of Melvin Gordon should both go a long way towards improving on San Diego's rushing attack in 2015.

Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said Monday that Woodhead (leg) looks the same as he did before suffering a fractured fibula in Week 3 last season, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Michael Gehlken reports.
Now nearly nine months removed from the injury, Woodhead has been able to participate in the Chargers' offseason program. He figures to reprise his role as the team's top running back for passing downs, as first-round draft pick Melvin Gordon recorded just 22 receptions during his college career. Branden Oliver, who caught 36-of-45 targets last year, also figures to be in the mix for touches, possibly even challenging Woodhead for passing-down work. Gordon is expected to get most of the carries.

Woodhead, whose 2014 season ended in Week 3 when he suffered a broken fibula, indicates that he feels good as the start of the Chargers' offseason program approaches, the team's official site reports.
"I feel really, really good," said Woodhead, who was limited 15 carries for 38 yards and five catches for 34 yards in three games last season. "I really do. As far as the injury goes, that is something I'm not even thinking about." With Ryan Mathews having departed via free agency, a healthy Woodhead is now in line to reprise his change-of-pace duties in the Chargers' 2015 backfield, which also currently includes Branden Oliver and Donald Brown and figures to be bolstered in the upcoming NFL draft.
Mon Sep 22 201417:05Danny Woodhead: Headed to IR
Woodhead, who suffered a broken fibula Sunday, is headed to IR, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
With Ryan Mathews still out, Donald Brown figures to be a busy back for the Chargers in the coming weeks, with Branden Oliver on hand in a backup role. In any case, the team is certainly going to add running back depth sooner rather than later, with Marion Grice a candidate to be promoted from the team's practice squad and/or a free agent addition possibly on tap.
Sun Sep 21 201418:31Danny Woodhead: (Ankle) May Be Done For Season
Woodhead (ankle) suffered a severe high ankle sprain and a fractured fibula, meaning he'll likely require season-ending surgery, FOX Sports 1's Alex Marvez reports.
The diagnosis hasn't been confirmed by a Chargers beat reporter, but the San Diego Union Tribune suggests that the injury is likely serious. With Ryan Mathews (knee) already expected to miss the next few games due to a sprained MCL, Donald Brown now figures to see even more of the ball. Brown, who had already replaced Mathews as the early-down back, is positioned to assume Woodhead's role on passing downs. Undrafted rookie Branden Olivier is the only other running back on the roster, but Marion Grice will likely be signed from the practice squad.

Woodhead (ankle) is slated to undergo further testing on his ankle Sunday night, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Woodhead was carted off of the field Sunday against the Bills after sustaining an ankle injury on the Chargers' opening drive and upon his exit, the team's only healthy running backs for the rest of the day were Donald Brown and Branden Oliver. More on Woodhead's status as we know it, but the San Diego Union Tribune suggests that his injury could be fairly serious.

Woodhead (ankle) has officially been ruled out for a return to Sunday's game against the Bills.
Woodhead was carted off the field in the first quarter with what looked to be a severe ankle injury, so it's no surprise he'll be held out the rest of the contest. The Chargers will likely send him in for tests to determine if he suffered any sort of dislocation or break, either of which would sideline him for further weeks. Donald Brown will be the bell cow for the remainder of Sunday's game for the Chargers, and could continue to occupy the top spot on the depth chart if Woodhead's injury proves to be significant.
Sun Sep 21 201413:25Danny Woodhead: Ankle Injury
Woodhead (right ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bills, according to Ricky Henne of chargers.com.
With Woodhead having been carted off Sunday, the Chargers are now down to Donald Brown and Brandon Oliver at running back in Week 3.

Woodhead was carted off the field early in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Bills with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
More on the exact nature of Woodhead's injury. The Chargers are now down to two healthy backs - Donald Brown and Branden Oliver.

Woodhead had eight carries for 32 yards and caught four passes for 28 yards in Sunday's win over Seattle.
The big news is that Ryan Mathews left the game with a knee injury. Woodhead would likely see additional carries if Mathews is out for an extended period of time, but he's still a better option in PPR leagues though, as he probably wouldn't be used at the goal line much.

Woodhead had six carries for five yards and one catch for six yards Monday night.
The Cardinals are especially tough against the run, so Woodhead's struggles don't mean much. We'd like to have seen him targeted more in the passing game, however.

Woodhead had six carries for 24 yards and one reception for reception for five yards in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
With Ryan Mathews sitting out, Woodhead got a few extra carries, working in tandem with Donald Brown. Now that he has both Mathews and Brown to contend with, Woodhead may have a hard time matching his 106 carries from last season, though he still figures to dominate the third-down workload.
Tue Jul 22 201418:31Danny Woodhead signs extension through 2016
Chargers signed RB Danny Woodhead to a two-year contract extension through 2016.
Financial terms are not yet available, though Woodhead is currently scheduled to make $1.75 million this season. Heading into his age-29 campaign, Woodhead set new career highs with 76 catches and 106 carries in 2013. He'll remain the Bolts' primary passing-down back this season, but should cede touches to Donald Brown. Woodhead is an RB2/3 in PPR leagues.

Sun Jan 12 201420:05Woodhead held to 39 total yards in loss
Danny Woodhead rushed for 29 yards on nine carries and caught three passes for ten yards in San Diego's Divisional Round playoff loss.
With Ryan Mathews (ankle) severely limited, Woodhead took over as San Diego's primary back. Despite a bigger workload than usual, Woodhead failed to generate big plays and the Chargers' offense was almost entirely ineffective, but mostly so on the ground. Under contract for $1.75 million in 2014, Woodhead will return to San Diego in a Sprolesian "passing back" role. He should remain a flex option in standard leagues, with low-end RB2 upside in PPR. Woodhead set career highs in catches (76) and TDs (8) in his first year under offensive mastermind Mike McCoy.
