Bills placed DE Chris Kelsay (neck) on injured reserve, ending his season. |
Kelsay aggravated the torn ligament in his neck during Week 12. The ten-year veteran was turned into a rotational end this season thanks to the Bills' revamped front seven. He finishes with just two sacks and a career-low 14 tackles in nine games. Kelsay's on-field production isn't worth the $3.725 million he's owed in 2013. |

Kelsay was suiting up Sunday for the first time since Week 9. If "some time" is anything more than 1-2 games, he could be a candidate for injured reserve. Kelsay has been starting in the absence of RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery). Anderson will likely be sidelined at least 1-2 more weeks. |

Kelsay revealed Monday his injury was actually a torn neck ligament, but says he's not putting his body at further risk by playing. With RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) still sidelined, Kelsay will start opposite Mario Williams if he can go against the Colts. |

Mon Oct 22 2012 | 18:00 | Chris Kelsay calls out Bills defense |
Bills DE Chris Kelsay called out Buffalo's defense on Monday, suggesting some Bills players aren't giving 100 percent on the field. |
"We've got to understand what accountability means across the board, playing hard every play," said Kelsay. "You watch the film and not everybody was playing hard every snap and that's unacceptable." Added Kelsay, "I'd take Mario Williams at full health and full speed probably over anybody else in the league. At the same time I'd take Sean Ferguson, who we cut, over a guy that's playing 50 percent, and I think our coaches would too." |

Tue Jan 31 2012 | 11:20 | Gailey: Bills will use multiple fronts |
Coach Chan Gailey says the Bills will still use multiple defensive fronts despite their official switch to a 4-3 scheme. |
"When we hand you a lineup card, it's going to have two defensive tackles, two defensive ends, and three linebackers," Gailey said. "But how much we end up in even spacing (or) odd spacing ... that's determined by players and the offense we're playing." The Bills will mix in some 3-4, but new DC Dave Wannstedt has only ever coached 4-3s. Finding 4-3 players will be a priority in the draft. |

Wed Sep 29 2010 | 13:15 | Bills extend Kelsay's contract |
Bills signed OLB Chris Kelsay to a four-year extension through 2014. |
The Bills must have seen something from Kelsay that we haven't. While he's been an active tackler (19 stops), Kelsay's primary role as a 3-4 outside 'backer is to rush the passer, and he's sack-less through three games and hasn't contributed on a single turnover. Making the deal even more of a head scratcher, Kelsay hasn't drawn high marks for his run defense or coverage. His best years clearly behind him, Kelsay turns 31 in October. |
Sun Sep 26 2010 | 20:53 | Bills close to extension with Kelsay |
The Bills are reportedly closing in on an extension for LB Chris Kelsay. |
This is pretty surprising. Kelsay has struggled badly in his transition from 4-3 defensive end to 3-4 outside linebacker, and has yet to record a sack. He's also a major liability in coverage on the strong side. The Bills' head scratching decision making continues. According to the Buffalo News, "it's believed the deal could be finalized within a week." |
