Fri Mar 1 201313:35Panthers release veteran NT Ron Edwards
Panthers released NT Ron Edwards.
The move clears roughly $1.67 million in cap space. It could be seen coming from a mile away for a player who signed a three-year deal after the lockout. Edwards missed all of 2011 with a torn triceps, and was limited to 11 games last season by a dislocated elbow. Going on 34, Edwards wasn't productive when he took the field. He'll have a rough go of it in free agency.

The Charlotte Observer's Joe Person says the Panthers "will cut" NT Ron Edwards.
Carolina is currently around $9 million over the cap, and releasing Edwards would clear about $2.5 million. The Panthers want to re-sign Dwan Edwards, and they will look to replace Ron through either the draft or free agency.

Fri Feb 8 201310:09Panthers could cut NT Ron Edwards
Panthers NT Ron Edwards could be a salary cap casualty.
It's painfully obvious that Edwards is going to get cut. The Panthers are up against the cap, and Edwards is due a little over $2.5 million in the final year of his deal. Plus, he wasn't all that good in the 11 games he played in before landing on injured reserve with a dislocated elbow.

Tue Nov 27 201213:24Panthers lose DT Edwards to elbow injury
Panthers NT Ron Edwards is out for the season after dislocated his elbow in Monday night's game.
He will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, with Frank Kearse promoted from the practice squad to take his roster spot. The 33-year-old had been playing on early downs but was below average in run defense. Sione Fua should take over as the starter inside. It's not a major downgrade.

Sat Jun 16 201215:33Ron Edwards will be ready for camp
Panthers NT Ron Edwards (triceps) will be 100 percent for training camp.
Edwards was forced to miss minicamp with a minor hamstring injury, but is completely recovered from the arm injury that cost him all of 2011. "We just felt he's a veteran guy, he didn't need to come out and kill himself," coach Ron Rivera said. Edwards should be returning to a starting job.

Coach Ron Rivera expects the bulk of his team's defensive improvement to come via the return of injured players.
NT Ron Edwards, MLB Jon Beason, WLB Thomas Davis, and DTs Sione Fua and Terrell McClain are all expected back, though Davis will have to take a major pay cut. The Panthers are expected to target defensive tackle and cornerback early in April's draft.

Thu Aug 11 201118:16Panthers place NT Edwards on I.R.
Panthers placed NT Ron Edwards (triceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Edwards' torn triceps will require surgery, necessitating a lengthy recovery. He signed a three-year, $8.25 million just days before suffering the injury. The Panthers will revisit that commitment in 2012. Corvey Irvin and Sione Fua currently sit atop the Panthers' depth chart at defensive tackle. Deljuan Robinson, formerly of the Texans, was signed to take Edwards' roster spot.

Panthers NT Ron Edwards will have surgery on his torn triceps.
No decision has been made yet on whether Edwards will land on injured reserve, but it appears likely. The Panthers gave up 123.8 yards per game on the ground last season and figure to struggle up the gut once again.

Wed Jul 27 201110:26Panthers reach deal with NT Ron Edwards
Panthers agreed to terms with NT Ron Edwards on a three-year, $8.25 million contract.
Edwards was expected to be a priority for Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, but the Panthers came in and swiped him away. It's just as well. Edwards is a decent run defender, but the Chiefs have the cap space to make a serious run at Aubrayo Franklin -- a potential impact signing. The Panthers will hope Edwards turns out better than Tank Tyler, the last defensive tackle to go from Kansas City to Charlotte.

Sat Feb 26 201110:43Ron Edwards is priority for the Chiefs
Free agent NT Ron Edwards is expected to be the Chiefs' "most immediate priority" to re-sign this offseason.
Edwards is an above average run defender, but the Chiefs need to start thinking about getting younger at the position. He turns 32 this summer, and wore down late last season despite only playing on early downs throughout the year. Kansas City could look at someone like Baylor NT Phil Taylor in round two.

Sat Apr 17 201013:11Ron Edwards to see reduced snaps?
Chiefs NT Ron Edwards is expected to see reduced snaps in 2010.
Edwards went from a rotational lineman to a full-timer after the Chiefs traded Tank Tyler last October. The Chiefs have talked about Glenn Dorsey pitching in at nose tackle, but they'd prefer to keep him at end. A true 3-4 nose should be high on the list of draft needs this year.
