Sun Aug 2 201511:51Stephen Hill: Out with ACL Injury, Waived by Panthers
Hill has an ACL injury and was waived/injured by the Panthers on Sunday, Max Henson of Panthers.com reports.
Stephen Hill has struggled to be effective in the league since he was drafted in 2012, and given the Panthers rather weak receiving core, he had an opportunity to be a positive contributor in the 2015 season. The ACL injury now leaves him without a home, and should he be ruled out for an extended time, it's unlikely another team signs Hill this season.

Hill was carted out of Saturday's practice with his right knee "heavily taped," Associated Press writer Steve Reed reports.
Every beat writer who chimed in on Hill's injury agreed that it did not look good. Hill's entire career has been a source of frustration since the Jets selected him in the second round of the 2012 draft, and a serious injury here would be another big obstacle for Hill, who has always struggled with raw football fundamentals. It shouldn't take overly long for a conclusive update on his status.
Wed Jul 29 201511:15Hill cited for marijuana paraphernalia possession Tuesday
Hill was cited for marijuana paraphernalia possession Tuesday, Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The Panthers have yet to release a statement on the matter so it's hard to determine whether or not the 24-year-old is in danger of being suspended. Either way, he's buried on Carolina's depth chart and was already expected to struggle for playing time before this incident occurred.
Fri Jun 19 201512:48Hill among Panthers' standout players during OTAs
Hill was among the Panthers' standout players during OTAs, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
Hill spent last season on the Panthers' practice squad after the Jets released him following a disappointing two-year experiment. At 6-4 with impressive speed, the 2012 second-round pick has yet to develop the consistency required to become a successful NFL wideout, but reports of him showing well this offseason are at least encouraging. Nonetheless, Hill will have to carry over his performance level to training camp in order to earn a place on Carolina's regular season roster.
Thu Jan 15 201512:24The Panthers have signed Hill to futures contract
The Panthers have signed Hill to a futures contract, the team's official site reports.
Hill, who spent the 2014 season on the Carolina practice squad, was second-round pick by the Jets in 2012, but so far his intriguing blend of size (6-4, 215) and speed has yet to result in consistent NFL results for 23-year-old wideout, who New York waived prior to the start of this past season.
Tue Sep 2 201421:42Hill signed to Panthers' practice squad
Hill has been signed to the Panthers' practice squad, the Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
He worked out with Carolina earlier in the week, and while the Panthers have more conceivable avenues to playing time for a wide receiver than almost any other team in the league, practice squad players, especially documented busts like Hill, don't typically make good fantasy investments.
Mon Sep 1 201412:45Hill working out for Panthers on Monday
Hill is working out for the Panthers on Monday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
Though he was unable to establish a role with the Jets this season, Carolina could be a good spot for Hill to get a fresh start, with not much proven depth behind to team's top trio of wideouts, Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant.
Sat Aug 30 201412:51Hill released by Jets
Hill has been released by the Jets.
After he was unable to cement a key role behind top wideout Eric Decker, the Jets decided to move on from Hill, with Jeremy Kerley and David Nelson next up for wideout targets in the team's offense. Hill, the 43rd overall choice in the 2012 NFL Draft, figures to get a fresh start, given that there are plenty of teams looking for wideout help in the wake of Saturday's NFL roster cut-downs.
Sat Aug 30 201412:12Unless they are able to trade him
Unless they are able to trade him, the Jets plan to release Hill, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
The report suggests that the team played Hill in Thursday's preseason finale in order to showcase him, and assuming no change in direction here, the 2012 second-rounder is about to get a fresh start.
Thu Aug 28 201422:34Hill (illness) may not make final roster
Hill (illness), who caught one pass for 14 yards on two targets in Thursday's preseason finale against the Eagles, may not make the final roster, Dayrl Slater of the Star-Ledger reports.
Once expected to seize the starting role across from Eric Decker, Hill is now on the roster bubble, and doesn't figure to have a prominent role even if he makes the team. He dropped one of his two targets in Thursday's game, staying true to form to finish off a poor preseason.
Tue Aug 26 201414:17Hill dealing with illness
Hill is dealing with an illness, but he has still been able to participate in practice, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
Hill does not appear to be dealing with a serious setback, but it remains to be seen if he will play in Thursday's preseason finale. Hill figrues to grab a spot on the Jets' 53-man roster, but it is unlikely that he will open the season with a prominent role in the offense.

Hill caught one pass for 12 yards on four targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.
Expected to compete with David Nelson for a starting spot across from Eric Decker, Hill now seems to be merely fighting for his roster life. Nelson has also failed to impress, and the Jets may want to consider using Jeremy Kerley as something close to an every-down player. Though he has the size-speed combination of a stud No. 1 wide receiver, Hill continues to struggle with drops, among other things.
Fri Aug 22 201408:47Hill might not have roster spot locked up
Hill might not have a roster spot locked up, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.
While this nugget is strictly the speculation of Cimini, he's a long-time Jets beat writer and knows the team as well as any media member. Bottom line, Hill is entering a make-or-break season, his third as a pro, and he's been unimpressive most of the summer. We'll watch him closely in the third preseason game.
Wed Aug 20 201418:23Hill still behind David Nelson on Jets depth chart
Hill is still behind David Nelson on the Jets depth chart, according to the New York Daily News. Hill has run 37 routes in preseason games but has just one reception.
It's a critical year for Hill and so far he hasn't shown much. He'll start the year on the waiver wire, deservedly, in most fantasy leagues.

Hill and David Nelson have not done much to separate from one another in the battle for a starting wideout spot opposite Eric Decker (quad), the New York Daily News reports.
The theme continued Saturday night against the Bengals, as Hill caught one pass for 17 yards, and Nelson caught two for just nine yards. It increasingly looks as if slot man Jeremy Kerley will be more productive than whichever player starts across from Decker. That said, Hill is a 6-4 former first-round draft pick with good speed, so his ceiling is easily higher than Nelson's.
Fri Aug 1 201408:54Hill impressive in early practices, offensive coordinator Marty ...
Hill has been impressive in early practices, offensive coordinator Marty Morhinweg told the Newark Star-Ledger.
Shiny-happy coaching quotes are the Mad Lib of the summer, but nonetheless we can't help but be curious about Hill. He's still just 23 and he offers impressive raw physical skills; to this point, he's been held back by injuries, sloppy route running, poor hands, and the archaic offense Georgia Tech ran in his college days. Most of his problems to this point are correctable things. Bottom line, the story is a long way from its conclusion, and Year 3 is a common breakout time for wideouts. Hill could be an interesting high-upside pick at the end of fantasy drafts.
Tue Jul 29 201419:57Stephen Hill looking 'healthy and confident'
Jets WRs coach Sanjay Lal calls Stephen Hill "healthy and confident" through the first week of camp.
"I think he's believing, and believing in himself - and it's starting to show," Lal said. "It's been the injuries that have hindered (him). ... "He's taken the coaching the whole time. Now, he's able to do it physically, so it's just kind of coming together right now." It's notable, because Lal's comments come one month after he said he was "unsure" if Hill would ever break through because of his health. Hill remains a long-shot to make a fantasy impact this season, but the upside is still there. He's someone to monitor.

Sat Jun 21 201412:17Stephen Hill plays well during minicamp
Stephen Hill played well and did not have a drop during minicamp.
An athlete like Hill is expected to look good in non-contact practice, but the lack of drops is a promising sign for a player that has struggled with concentration throughout his career. Hill is easily the most physically gifted receiver on the Jets' roster, but he will have to turn those physical gifts into on-field performance if he wants to keep his job.

Wed Jun 18 201419:35Stephen Hill getting 1st-team reps with Jets
Stephen Hill has worked with the first-team offense at OTAs and minicamp.
"He's looked good during the spring," wrote ESPN New York's Jane McManus. Coach Rex Ryan reiterated Wednesday "there's nothing given," and Hill remains in competition for a roster spot despite the starter's reps. Ideally, a healthy Hill would emerge as the deep threat to Eric Decker's intermediate game and Jace Amaro's underneath presence. It's Hill's make-or-break year in New York.

Fri Jun 13 201412:30Jets WRs coach 'unsure' if Hill can produce
Jets WRs coach Sanjay Lal said he's "unsure" if Stephen Hill can have a productive NFL career "because of the health."
Each of Hill's first two seasons has ended with a stint on I.R. due to knee issues. Lal still has faith in Hill and talked up the third-year wideout as a world-class worker. But there's concern Hill's knees may never cooperate. He's no longer on scholarship in New York and is simply competing for a roster spot.
