Thu Mar 27 201408:48Silatolu expected to reclaim starting gig
Amini Silatolu (ACL surgery) is expected to reclaim his starting left guard job.
As a second-round rookie in 2012, Silatolu struggled as a pass protector while making 15 starts. Then he blew out his knee three games into the 2013 season. He'll be a question mark along with potential left tackle Byron Bell, right tackle Garry Williams and Chris Scott/Nate Chandler at right guard. The Panthers arguably have the worst offensive line in the NFL right now.

It's a big blow for a Panthers' offensive line that got destroyed by the Cardinals on Sunday. The No. 40 overall pick of last year's draft, Silatolu was coming on after a shaky rookie season. The Panthers will move forward with Chris Scott and Travelle Wharton at guard. It's not a good situation for a struggling Cam Newton.

The Panthers have installed second-round pick Amini Silatolu as a first-team guard.
Beat writer Joe Person doesn't specify whether Silatolu is working on the left or right side. Geoff Hangartner was the Panthers' right guard last season, but is better suited for the left. The Panthers could max out their offensive line talent if Silatolu and Jeff Otah emerge as the right-side pairing.
