Denver No. 5 tight end Lucas Reed recently went down with an injury, so O'Connell will take his place as a camp body. He was a 2009 seventh-round pick.

Chiefs placed TE Jake O'Connell (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.
O'Connell is primarily used as a blocking specialist. He registered three catches for 18 yards on the season and will be a free agent at the end of the year. Kansas City signed OL Rich Ranglin from the practice squad to take O'Connell's roster spot.

The Kansas City Star says that TE Jake O'Connell is "in a fight for his roster spot."
The Chiefs added Kevin Boss this offseason and Tony Moeaki (knee) is tentatively expected to be ready for Week 1. O'Connell had seven catches for 52 yards in eight games played last season.
