Matthews had one catch on three targets for 16 yards Sunday against the Jets in London.
Matthews came into the game off back-to-back performances with over 110 yards, including two touchdowns in Week 3, but he put up an absolute dud Sunday while Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills combined for 20 targets, including the latter who had five catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. The three wideouts have all had big performances this season, making it difficult to project which one will break out in any given week. Up next is a Week 6 matchup against the Titans after a Week 5 bye.

Matthews has moved up to second on the Dolphins wide receiver depth chart, reports Miami Herald's Adam Beasley.
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as Matthews has been the Dolphins most consistent receiver over the first few weeks of the season. The question will be can he keep it up over a long season and can he keep rookie receiver DeVante Parker from passing him at some point in the future.

Matthews caught 6-of-10 targets for 113 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's loss to the Bills.
The entire Dolphins' offense struggled, trailing 27-0 at halftime, but Matthews was able to post some nice stats when the team was in comeback mode. He was an afterthought this offseason, when the Dolphins acquired the likes of Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills, while also drafting flashy DeVante Parker in the first round of the NFL Draft. However, Matthews has arguably been Miami's best receiver in the early going. If he's still hanging out there on your league's waiver wire, he seems to be worth an obvious look, especially if you're thin at wideout. He'll have a tough matchup in Week 4 though, taking on a rugged Jets' defense.

Matthews had one of the best games of his career in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville, catching six of seven targets for 115 yards.
While it wasn't quite a career high in yardage (he had a 120-yard receiving game in 2013), it was still an impressive performance nonetheless. He also scored a touchdown in Week 1, so he's certainly been heavily involved and one of Ryan Tannehill's favorite targets in the early going. It remains to be seen if Matthews can keep it going, but he might have a decent matchup in Week 3, facing a Bills' secondary that was torched by Tom Brady on Sunday to the tune of 466 yards and three touchdowns.

Matthews had four receptions for 34 yards and a score in the Dolphins 17-10 win over the Redskins on Sunday.
Matthews was the only Dolphin receiver to reach the end zone as quarterback Ryan Tannehill came out of the gate sluggish along with the rest of the offense. Matthews did have six targets but that could be the exception rather than the norm.

Matthews is listed with the second-team offense on Miami's initial regular-season depth chart, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports.
Matthews reportedly pushed Kenny Stills for a starting gig, but the former Saint will hold on to his job, at least for the time being. With both Matthews and first-round draft pick DeVante Parker looming, it may not be long before Stills and/or Greg Jennings are/is demoted from the starting lineup.
Tue Sep 1 201511:04Matthews pushing Kenny Stills for snaps
Matthews is pushing Kenny Stills for snaps, NFL.com reports.
Matthews has drawn praise from offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and quarterback Ryan Tannehill, with both suggesting that the fourth-year wideout has improved significantly from last season. Kenny Stills, once a presumed starter, has battled nagging injuries throughout training camp, though he does seem to be healthy at the moment. The Dolphins have a crowded wide receiver rotation, with only Jarvis Landry free from workload-related questions. Greg Jennings is also expected to have a role, and first-round draft pick DeVante Parker (foot) returned to practice Monday.

Matthews will likely start at receiver in the preseason opener Thursday, reports Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
This should only be a temporary assignment as injuries to both Kenny Stills (calf) and DeVante Parker (foot) will keep them out of the game.
Wed May 20 201512:28Matthews hopes to be traded or released by Dolphins
Matthews hopes to be traded or released by the Dolphins, the Miami Herald reports.
While Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson are no longer in the team's wideout mix, DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings have been cycled in to work along with returnee Jarvis Landry. As is stands, Matthews slots in as the Dolphins' No. 5 option at the position, an assignment that doesn't carry a ton of field time with it. Matthews -- who caught 41 passes in 2013 -- recorded just 12 catches for 135 yards and a TD in 14 games in 2014.

Matthews had 12 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns in 2014.
Matthews is nothing more than a depth wide receiver for Miami and may not be back with the team next season regardless of what happens with Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace.
Sun Aug 17 201401:01Matthews caught all three of targets for 43 yards and touchdown ...
Matthews caught all three of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Bucs.
Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace started, while Matthews and Brandon Gibson both saw significant work with the first-team offense. The Dolphins may not have a true No. 1 wide receiver, but they appear to have excellent depth, with Gibson, Matthews and second-round rookie Jarvis Landry all in the mix for playing time behind the starters. While Gibson is the favorite to see most of the playing time in the slot, Matthews appears to be hot on his heels, and Landry was drafted in the second round for a reason. Gibson caught two passes for 28 yards on three targets in Saturday's game, and Landry hauled in his only target for 26 yards.

Matthews caught two passes for 40 yards on three targets in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.
Though both of Matthews' receptions came from the arm of Ryan Tannehill, the 24-year-old wideout stayed in with the backups. Matthews only got the start because Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline were held out, but he did make the most of his opportunity. Matthews and second-round rookie Jarvis Landry are hoping to push Brandon Gibson for the No. 3 wide receiver role. Gibson caught both of his targets, including one for a touchdown, while Landry had a quiet first half.
Sat Jul 26 201419:38Rishard Matthews likely to get cut
Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews is "at serious risk" of not making the team.
Matthews has struggled during the early part of camp, and is no higher than the No. 5 receiver. He's competing with Armon Binns, Damian Williams and converted RB Marcus Thigpen for one or two spots. Miami has "privately questioned" Matthews' focus in the past, and he recently admitted to being late to team meetings. Releasing Matthews would create $556,597 in 2014 cap space.

Fri Jun 20 201412:35Philbin praises Matthews' minicamp
Amid reports he's in the doghouse, coach Joe Philbin offered up some praise for third-year WR Rishard Matthews following minicamp.
"Rishard had a really good camp," said Philbin. Matthews claims he and Philbin "ironed out their issues" during an offseason chat. He admitted "being late to a couple of meetings, among other things." The Fins have a three-way battle at slot receiver, with Jarvis Landry pushing Matthews and Brandon Gibson.

Sat Jun 14 201413:57Matthews in the lead for the No. 3 WR spot?
ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker said WR Rishard Matthews is the "leader in the clubhouse" for the team's third receiver position.
The reports on Matthews this offseason have been all over the map, with some saying he is a candidate to be cut and others saying he will win the slot-receiver job out of camp. Walker falls into the latter category, citing WR Brandon Gibson's (knee) injury concerns and rookie WR Jarvis Landry's inexperience as reasons Matthews will win the job. Despite this report, we still see Gibson as the favorite to leave camp with the job.

Tue Jun 3 201418:25Dolphins 'haven't been happy' with Matthews
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins "haven't been happy" with Rishard Matthews for "tardiness, lack of attention to detail and other issues."
In other words, he'll have to have a monster camp and preseason to earn the Dolphins' final receiver spot. Matthews hopes a recent meeting with coach Joe Philbin helped his cause. "I had some (missteps) my first couple years being young," Matthews, who turns 25 in October, said. "They want me to be more professional off the field, as well as on the field. ... Coach Philbin sat down with me and gave me the ropes. We're definitely on the same page." Matthews is facing an uphill battle with draft picks Jarvis Landry and Matt Hazel added to the Dolphins' crowded receiver corps.

Sun May 11 201412:43Dolphins likely to keep only six wideouts
ESPN Dolphins' Reporter James Walker only expects Miami to keep six of the 11 wide receivers currently on the roster.
Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and the newly-drafted Jarvis Landry are locks to make the roster. Sixth-round WR Matt Hazel has a great shot as well. That leaves Rishard Matthews, Armon Binns and Brandon Gibson to fight for one roster spot. Binns is recovering from an ACL and MCL tear suffered last July, but the Dolphins are reportedly very intrigued by his potential. Gibson is coming back from a torn patellar tendon and Matthews is reportedly not a favorite of coach Joe Philbin. The smart money is one or both of Matthews and Gibson being cut.

Sat May 10 201411:34Rishard Matthews 'not a Joe Philbin favorite'
The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes WR Rishard Matthews is not a favorite of Dolphins coach Joe Philbin.
The Palm Beach Post considered Matthews an early favorite for the starting slot receiver job over Brandon Gibson (knee surgery), but several reports have surfaced indicating the Dolphins are not high on Matthews. The latest sign is the selection of Jarvis Landry in the third round. Landry's lack of top-end speed will make him a better fit for a slot role in the NFL; the same role occupied by Matthews in 2014. He may find himself fighting for his job this preseason.

Sat Apr 19 201418:38Dolphins could replace Richard Matthews
The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins have had discussions about replacing third-year WR Rishard Matthews.
This conflicts with earlier reports that the Dolphins view Matthews as a candidate for the slot receiver job over Brandon Gibson (knee surgery). Barring an upgrade in the draft, Miami's top four wideouts should be Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Gibson, and one of Matthews, Damian Williams, and Armon Binns.

Sat Apr 12 201421:05Richard Matthews favorite for slot role
The Palm Beach Post considers Richard Matthews the favorite for the Dolphins' slot receiver job.
Matthews took over as Miami's slot receiver in Week 9 last season, filling in for an injured Brandon Gibson. He appeared in all 16 games (five starts) and posted 41 catches, 448 yards, and two touchdowns. Gibson is owed $3.7 million in 2014 and his roster spot is in jeopardy coming off major knee surgery. The Dolphins also signed Damien Williams, who should serve as the No. 4 receiver.
