Herron picked up 28 yards on nine carries Sunday against the Titans, but was not targeted in the passing game.
The newly acquired Herron led the Bills in carries, but failed to find much running room. This pedestrian performance doesn't bode well for Herron's chances of future production, especially with injured lead back LeSean McCoy (hamstring) possibly due back soon and Boobie Dixon on hand to split carries as it is.

Herron, picked up by the Bills on Tuesday, is already looking good in practices with his fresh legs and is hitting the hole better than any of the team's healthy backs, BuffaloBills.com reports. "I think Boom is going toyou know there's a good chance that he's going to be a part of the game plan," said offensive coordinator Greg Roman. "I really like what I see out of him, like what I hear out of him and he's picking things up pretty quickly."
Herron knows this offensive system because it's the same one used by his former team, the Colts. While Anthony Dixon will get first crack at the Titans this week, don't be surprised if Herron gets at least a handful of carries, with the potential for more should he look significantly better than Dixon. Still, he's a dart this week until things better sort themselves.

Herron's teammates LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams have both officially been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tennessee.
Anthony Dixon will get first crack at the Titans and their 22nd-ranked run defense, however the folks running the Bills have made statements this week that they won't be afraid to use Herron. He's familiar with offensive coordinator Greg Roman's terminology and scheme and had some success at times last season with the Colts around their running game issues elsewhere.
Tue Oct 6 201514:02Herron (shoulder) signed with Bills on Tuesday
Herron (shoulder) signed with the Bills on Tuesday, ESPN.com's Mike Rodak reports.
With LeSean McCoy (hamstring) and Karlos Williams (concussion) both in danger of missing Sunday' game in Tennessee, Anthony Dixon may have to lead the Buffalo backfield. Herron has presumably recovered from the shoulder injury he dealt with earlier this season, and he could have an immediate role on passing downs. Herron doesn't have much of a ceiling, as Cierre Wood could also be involved in the offense, and the Buffalo running backs have only accounted for 20 targets this season.

The Colts have waived Herron (shoulder) from injured reserve, Kevin Bowen of Colts.com reports.
The Colts came to an injury settlement with the running back and he'll be free to catch on with another team and play once at some point this season once his injury shoulder heals up.
Mon Sep 7 201518:18Herron (shoulder) placed on injured reserve Monday
Herron (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Herron sustained a shoulder injury in the preseason finale, and after he was initially considered unlikely to play in Week 1, the Colts instead waived the running back with an injury designation over the weekend. Currently on IR, the potential exists for the two sides to reach an injury settlement, which would allow Herron to sign with another organization.
Sun Sep 6 201515:27Dan Herron: Waived/Injured by Colts
Herron (shoulder) has been waived/injured by the Colts, the Indianapolis Star reports.
If Herron clears waivers, he'll revert to IR, but his injury is a hit to the team's backfield depth behind starter Frank Gore. With Herron no longer in the mix, Josh Robinson could ascend to the team's No. 2 RB slot once he is cleared to play. The Colts also currently roster Vick Ballard and Tyler Varga at the running back position.

Herron (shoulder) probably won't be ready for Week 1, Indy Sports Central reports.
Herron injured his shoulder during the final preseason game, and was then seen angrily throwing his helmet on the sideline. There hasn't been any indication that it's a long-term issue, but the Colts' decision to keep five running backs on the initial 53-man roster suggests that Herron is in serious danger of missing Week 1. If Herron can't play, Josh Robinson (concussion) will likely serve as Frank Gore's top backup, assuming he recovers from his own issue. Gore and undrafted rookie Tyler Varga are the team's only healthy running backs.
Thu Sep 3 201520:31Dan Herron: Suffers Shoulder Injury
Herron left Thursday's preseason game against the Bengals due to a shoulder injury, ESPN's Mike Wells reports.
Herron left the field in pain after returning a kickoff, then angrily threw his helmet on the sideline, according to Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star. If the injury turns out to be serious, the Colts will look to some combination of Zurlon Tipton, Josh Robinson (head) and Vick Ballard (hamstring) to back-up Frank Gore. The team might also be interested in the veteran free-agent market.

Herron had nine carries for 25 yards in Saturday's preseason win over St. Louis.
Herron looks set to begin the season as Frank Gore's backup. Josh Robinson could compete for the backup role at some point later in the season, however.

Herron did not see action in Sunday's preseason opener against the Eagles, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Neither did starter Frank Gore, but at this stage Herron appears poised to open the coming season as the Colts' No. 2 back ahead of the likes of Zurlon Tipton, Vick Ballard and rookie Josh Robinson.
Thu Mar 5 201517:49The Colts made exclusive-rights tender to Herron on Thursday
The Colts made an exclusive-rights tender to Herron on Thursday, the team's official website reports.
Herron is an exclusive-rights free agent, which means he really isn't a free agent at all. He'll be back with the Colts in 2015, after leading the team's backfield during the 2014 postseason. He showcased a solid combination of tough running and receiving skills, but the Colts will likely want to bring in some competition for touches, at the very least. Indianapolis has been linked to some of the big-name running backs that will soon become free agents, so Herron's stock largely depends on how the rest of the offseason plays out. Trent Richardson is unlikely to be back with the Colts, and Ahmad Bradshaw (leg) -- an impending free agent himself -- is a perpetual injury concern.

Herron carried 10 times for 51 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in Sunday's 45-7 loss to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
Herron finished up the season as the team's lead back, after overtaking Trent Richardson in that role, but it's a little too early to get a good read on Herron's 2015 fantasy prospects, with the Colts quite possibly of a mind to tinker with the composition of their backfield depth chart this coming offseason.

Herron had 23 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown, adding eight receptions for 32 yards on eight targets, in Sunday's 24-13 win over the Broncos.
Herron had to fight for every inch against an excellent Denver front seven, with his longest run going for just eight yards, and his longest reception going for 10. He appeared to hurt his arm early in the game, but he only missed a snap or two, and then continued to run hard. He did seem to be favoring his arm at times, and he was often slow to get up. Zurlon Tipton still had just two carries and one reception, and Trent Richardson was a healthy scratch. While not to be mistaken for one of the league's more talented runners, Herron offers a nice combination of power, determination and receiving skills. Assuming he's not too banged up from Sunday's game, he figures to once again lead the Indy backfield in a difficult AFC Championship Game matchup with the Patriots. New England did an excellent job against the run after the first few weeks of the season, but Baltimore's Justin Forsett had a big game Saturday. Perhaps more relevant for Herron, the Patriots were middle-of-the-pack in terms of receiving production allowed to running backs. Though Herron's final rushing line might seem to indicate otherwise, the Colts expectedly came out with a pass-heavy gameplan Sunday afternoon. 10 of Herron's carries came in the fourth quarter, while four of his receptions came on the first two drives.

Herron is slated to remain in the Colts' starting lineup Sunday against the Broncos, ESPN.com reports.
Herron rushed 12 times for 56 yards in this past Sunday's win over the Bengals, while also recording 10 catches for 85 yards, but he ended up losing carries to Zurlon Tipton as the game progressed, after fumbling twice -- losing one. In any case, the Colts seem inclined to stick with Herron as their lead back, with coach Chuck Pagano noting with regard to the running back's recent fumbling woes, "he's going to do his part and he'll get it fixed." Herron will do so this weekend against Broncos' run defense that gave up an average of 79.8 yards rushing yards per game during the regular season. Only the Lions (69.3) gave up less.

Herron rushed 12 times for 56 yards and a TD and caught ten passes (on 11 targets) for 85 receiving yards in Sunday's 26-10 wild card win over the Bengals.
Herron did fumble twice, losing one, which led to Zurlon Tipton seeing added work (11 carries for 40 yards) as the game progressed. Meanwhile, Trent Richardson -- who was listed as questionable/illness heading into Sunday's game -- did not record a touch. Next up for Herron and the Bengals is a matchup next weekend against the Broncos, a contest in which we'd expect Herron to continue to head the Colts' backfield committee, provided he is able to take better care of the ball than he did this Sunday.

Herron got the start Sunday against the Titans and rushed 10 times for 35 yards and caught three passes on three targets for 31 receiving yards.
Backup Trent Richardson finished with just 11 yards on six carries, while Zurlon Tipton had nine carries for 21 yards, though the latter got most of his work with the game well in hand. Herron finishes the regular season with 78 carries for 351 yards and a touchdown, and he'll likely be the starter in the first-round of the playoffs against either the Steelers or Bengals.

Herron had seven carries for just three yards in Sunday's 42-7 loss to the Cowboys. He added three receptions for 37 yards.
Because of the lopsided score, the Colts attempted just 10 rushes all game. Herron got seven of the 10, which is a good sign as far as his status on the depth chart is concerned, but the total lack of rushing production is what stands out. He should get more work and be more productive next week in Tennessee against the league's worst run defense.

Herron had 11 carries for 60 rushing yards and two catches on three targets for 13 receiving yards during Sunday's win over the Texans.
Herron outplayed Trent Richardson yet again, as the latter finished with just 32 rushing yards on nine carries and nine receiving yards on two receptions. Herron has clearly shown that he's able to produce more than Richardson, but the Colts seem intent on running them both out there, which obviously limits both of their fantasy upsides. Up next is a Week 16 matchup against a Cowboys defense that has allowed the fourth-most rushing touchdowns this season.

Herron had eight carries for 26 yards and caught 4-of-7 targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 25-24 come-from-behind win at Cleveland.
As a rusher, Herron was slightly less productive than Trent Richardson, who finished with seven carries for 30 yards. Richardson wasn't targeted as a pass catcher though, and Herron was trusted in a huge situation in the final two minutes, picking up a 4th down conversion inside the Browns' 10-yard line. On the play, Herron appeared to be stopped, which would have ended the game, but he kept moving his legs and made a nice spin move to get the 1st down. Andrew Luck ended up throwing the game-winning touchdown pass to T.Y. Hilton with only 32 seconds remaining. Despite the modest numbers, Herron seems to be trending in the right direction, and he'll face the Texans at home next week.
