Fri Mar 7 201416:45Greg Childs passes through waivers unclaimed
Ex-Vikings WR Greg Childs passed through waivers unclaimed.
The "risk" to put in a waiver claim would've been his scheduled bare-minimum salary of $570,000 with no guarantees, so the fact that he fetched zero interest suggests the NFL has thrown in the towel on Childs. With bad knees and no catches through two pro seasons, Childs' career is likely over before it began.

Vikings waived WR Greg Childs.
A 2012 fourth-rounder, Childs has never appeared in an NFL game after suffering double patellar tendon tears in August 2012. He spent all of 2013 on the PUP list. Although he's only 24 (on Monday), Childs' career is likely through.

Mon Dec 9 201314:20Greg Childs' 'season' is over, again
Vikings left WR Greg Childs (knee surgeries) on the PUP list, ending his season.
Childs never made enough progress from double patellar tendon tears to return and contribute in 2013. A 2012 fourth-round pick, Childs has yet to appear in an NFL game. He lacks fantasy value even in the deepest Dynasty leagues.

Tue Aug 27 201309:38Greg Childs (knee) placed on reserve/PUP
Vikings placed WR Greg Childs on reserve/PUP.
Childs sustained patellar tears in each of his knees a year ago and still hasn't returned to practice. He'll miss at least the first six weeks. Given the severity of his injury coupled with a right patellar tear in college, Childs is a longshot to ever make an impact for the Vikings.

Tue Jul 30 201319:47Childs uncertain to participate in camp
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the Vikings are uncertain if WR Greg Childs (knees) will come off the PUP list before the regular season.
Per beat writer Dan Wiederer, it's "iffy at best" that Childs takes the field in training camp. Beginning the regular season on the PUP list would cost Childs at least six games. Coming off double patellar tendon tears, we're still skeptical Childs will play at all this season.

Sun Jun 16 201311:10Childs up to a rocked up 225 pounds
Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) is up to 225 pounds.
Childs is listed at 217 on the team's official website, but what makes it so much more impressive is that he had dipped all the way to 180 last winter. Childs was recovering from double patellar tendon tears, and the pain medicine made him sick to his stomach. He's now lifting "crazy weight, like lineman weight" as his recovery is ongoing. Childs could be medically cleared for the start of training camp, but any contributions in 2013 would be a surprise.

Fri Jun 14 201308:32Childs (knee) not ruled out for training camp
Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) could be medically cleared for the start of training camp.
Childs has been sprinting and cutting since last month and caught passes in front of reporters following Tuesday's OTA practice. Just 10 months removed from his second major knee surgery the Vikings will continue to exercise caution, but an early-August return hasn't been ruled out. "I'm waiting on our medical staff to give us the green light," coach Leslie Frazier said. "We'll see what happens. I'm not sure what direction it will go."

Tue Jun 11 201317:16Greg Childs moving around on field again
Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) caught passes in front of reporters following Tuesday's OTA practice.
He also dunked a ball over the crossbar before exiting the field. "I've been cutting like that for a good little while now," Childs said. "I'm taking it day by day. I feel good, but at the same time, the Vikings aren't rushing me. That's why I'm doing so well now." He remains a long shot for any 2013 impact.

Wed May 1 201314:12Greg Childs resumes sprinting and cutting
Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) has resumed sprinting and cutting.
"All the necessary things I need to be doing, I'm doing now," Childs said. "I still do my cuts and my runs full speed. There is no change in the way I run or the way I play. My routes are still the same." Despite the progress, Childs admits he's not close to 100 percent. The Vikings are operating under the assumption Childs "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL." So should fantasy owners.

Wed Apr 17 201318:00Vikes resigned to fact Childs could be done
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings are operating under the assumption WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL."
Childs tore both tendons in brutal fashion last camp. The injury came after he tore his right patellar tendon in 2010. Coach Leslie Frazier said in February that it would be a "monumental surprise if Greg Childs somehow, some way came back and was a factor." Childs is off the radar in Dynasty leagues.

Thu Feb 21 201315:25Childs' progress is a 'month-to-month' thing
Vikings WR Greg Childs' (torn patellar tendons) status remains "fluid."
"We'll see how he's progressing," GM Rick Spielman said. "He's working extremely hard. It's like a month-to-month thing, where he's coming. That will be yet to be determined." Childs suffered rare bilateral tendon tears in training camp, and the odds are heavily stacked against him ever making a full recovery.

Fri Dec 7 201212:08Vikings haven't given up hope on WR Childs
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier hasn't given up hope that WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons, I.R.) will help the team in the future.
"We think he's going to be a good player for us [in the future]," said Frazier. "Jarius Wright [Childs' Arkansas teammate] has come on for us here of late, and we're hoping he's going to turn out to be a good player." Childs was once a massive talent, but he's facing long odds after tearing both patellar tendons -- his right one for the second time.

Mon Aug 6 201212:00Vikings waive/injured WR Greg Childs
Vikings waived/injured WR Greg Childs.
They re-signed undrafted WR A.J. Love in a corresponding move. Childs, the 134th overall pick in April's draft, will miss his entire rookie season with double patellar tendon tears after rupturing his right patellar tendon as a junior at Arkansas. We wouldn't rule him out after he came back from the first one, but the odds are heavily against Childs having an NFL career.

Sun Aug 5 201211:03WR Greg Childs tears both patellar tendons
Vikings.com has confirmed that rookie WR Greg Childs suffered a torn patellar tendon in both knees.
Childs is done for the year and will have surgery on both knees in the next few days. Childs' draft stock fell due to a patellar tendor tear during his senior season at Arkansas and now his pro career is in jeopardy. Michael Jenkins and Stephen Burton figure to be the frontrunners to start opposite Percy Harvin while Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension.

Sun Aug 5 201201:03Report: Vikings rookie WR Childs out for year
Two sources tell ESPN 1500 Twin Cities that Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs is "almost surely" done for the year after suffering a "significant" injury to both knees during Saturday's camp practice.
The Vikings fear Childs tore both patellar tendons. It's a devastating, career-threatening blow for a player who labored through a patellar tendon tear as a senior in college and fell at least two rounds in the draft because of it. The Vikings were hoping Childs would secure the first-team split end job in suspended starter Jerome Simpson's three-game absence, but they'll have to turn elsewhere now. They may explore the free agent or trade market at receiver. The organization has soured on Michael Jenkins, and remains desperate for a wideout capable of stretching the field.

Sat Aug 4 201222:59Childs carted off with apparent leg injury
Greg Childs was carted off with an apparent leg injury in Saturday's practice.
The Vikings have yet to provide an update on his status, but it doesn't sound like there's any chance this isn't a significant injury. According to ESPN 1500's Tom Pelissero, Childs became awkwardly twisted with a defensive back while extending to make a downfield catch. It's not yet clear whether this is related to the leg injury that shortened his junior season. His return to the team is not considered imminent.

Fri Aug 3 201200:07Rookie Childs to start first three games?
According to ESPN 1500 Twin Cities, rookie WR Greg Childs "has always been the in-house favorite" to start opposite Percy Harvin during Jerome Simpson's three-game suspension.
It's interesting that veteran Michael Jenkins, due $2.5 million while coming off knee surgery, has been swept aside. It's another sign that Jenkins is on the roster bubble. Childs has dropped several balls early on, but he made the play of camp in Thursday's practice. We want to see more consistency before recommending Childs as a late-round flier for September.

Fri Jul 27 201213:03Vikings believe Greg Childs is 100 percent
The Vikings believe fourth-round WR Greg Childs is finally "100 percent" recovered from his 2010 patellar tendon tear.
Childs labored through the injury as a college senior, running with a hitch in his gait and failing to produce. It's why he fell to the fourth round. Childs' pre-injury college tape was more the caliber of a late first- or second-round pick. He may open the season as a starter while Jerome Simpson is suspended.

Wed Jun 27 201208:31Greg Childs to fill in for Simpson?
ESPN 1500 believes fourth-round rookie Greg Childs is the top option to fill in at split end while Jerome Simpson is suspended.
Simpson is not eligible to play until Week 4. Childs has the size at 6'3/219 and a 4.55 40 to go with it, but he's been battling a knee injury since his junior year at Arkansas. He also missed the majority of the offseason program due to a calf strain. Childs will have to prove his health and beat out Stephen Burton/Emmanuel Arceneaux at training camp.
