Tanney has been released from the practice squad, BuffaloBills.com reports.
With Matt Cassel being brought back into the fold, Tanney was no longer needed as the organization's third quarterback. If you're getting bored waiting for the real games to start, look it up for 4:59 worth of time.

Tanney has been signed to the practice squad, BuffaloBills.com reports.
Tanney has bounced around a few squads already in his young career, most recently being released by the Titans over the weekend. With Matt Cassel and Matt Simms being dropped by the Bills, that effectively makes Tanney the No. 3 guy in the organization for now. The other nine practice squad guys signed by the Bills are as follows - linebacker IK Enemkpali, defensive end Cedric Reed, cornerback Jaylen Watkins, tackle Chris Martin, wideout Dezmin Lewis, safety Jonathan Meeks, guard Cyril Richardson, linebacker Kevin Reddick, and running back Cierre Wood.

Tanney completed 7-of-9 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown while working the bulk of the second half in Sunday's preseason game against the Rams.
Tanney got an extended look in this one while veteran Charlie Whitehurst only threw one pass. If Tanney continues to have a strong preseason, it's conceivable he could challenge Whitehurst for the number three quarterback spot in Tennessee.

Tanney completed all three of his throws for 38 yards in Tennessee's preseason opener against the Falcons on Friday.
Tanney was the fourth quarterback to enter the game for Teneessee, and his best hope for playing time in 2015 is to impress another front office enough to give him a legitimate shot at a backup job.

Thu Dec 5 201309:00Alex Tanney passes are shaper than Hanie's
Alex Tanney threw sharper, crisper passes than Caleb Hanie during the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to the media.
Tanney has more natural tools and Hanie has more experience with four career NFL starts. The duo is sharing first-team reps this week as Brandon Weeden (concussion) and Jason Campbell (concussion) wait to get cleared for practice. At this point, any of the quartet could end up starting in an impossible spot at New England Sunday. Josh Gordon owners should be hoping the stronger arm of Tanney gets the call if Weeden/Campbell can't go.

Mon Dec 2 201310:24Browns didn't think about turning to Tanney
Coach Rob Chudzinski said he never considered pulling Brandon Weeden in favor of Alex Tanney in Sunday's loss to the Jags.
Although Weeden was struggling badly with turnovers once again, Tanney wasn't ready to go into the game. The former Cowboys practice squadder was just signed a week ago. "If we had put him in that situation, we were very limited in what we had in the package that we built for him," Chudzinski said. Weeden is now in the league's concussion protocol as is Jason Campbell. Tanney is the only healthy quarterback on the roster for now.
