Brockers left Saturday's preseason tilt with Cleveland after re-aggravating the ankle injury that's been bothering him all preseason.
The injury comes at a particularly bad time for Brockers, as Aaron Donald has emerged as a force as his backup. If Brockers can't get back on the field soon or struggles out of the gate, he may find his starting job in jeopardy.

Brockers left Saturday's practice with an ankle injury, ESPN.com reports.

Sat May 24 201417:18Rams DT Brockers could be breakout candidate
ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner considers DT Michael Brockers a potential breakout candidate.
Brockers is coming off a solid season after dealing with injuries as a rookie, starting all 16 games and recording 5.5 sacks. He finished as the No. 45 overall defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus, but graded out positively against the run. With the addition of first-round DT Aaron Donald on the inside, Brockers should see less double-teams and more sack opportunities in 2014.

It's not the same ankle that Brockers hurt last preseason, costing him the first three games of his NFL career. Coach Jeff Fisher has been impressed with Brockers' camp. "He's worked very hard," Fisher said. "He's changed his body, and we think he can be a dominating player inside." We agree with Fisher's assessment.

Sun Sep 2 201221:00Michael Brockers avoids high ankle sprain
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Rams first-round pick Michael Brockers' ankle injury should only cost him 2-4 weeks.
La Canfora's report indicates Brockers avoided a dreaded high ankle sprain. Whereas the Rams may have been without Brockers until Week 4, they may now get him back as soon as Week 2 or 3. St. Louis will struggle to stop running games as long as Brockers is missing from the lineup. Look for the Rams to turn to a rotation of Matt Conrath and Kellen Heard to replace him against Detroit.
