The Raiders have released Burris, sfgate.com reports.

Burris notched 109 tackles while starting all 16 games at middle linebacker for the Raiders last season, but the signing of Curtis Lofton along with the addition of Neiron Ball and Ben Heeney in the NFL draft squeezed Burris out of Oakland's LB mix.

Burris (hip) is officially active for Thursday's game against the Chiefs.

The 26-year-old currently ranks third on the team in tackles with 69 (46 solo), but hasn't really shown up anywhere else on the stat sheet, failing to record a sack, a forced fumble or an interception thus far. He practiced in full Wednesday despite the hip issue.

It looks safe to roll with Burris -- who practiced fully Wednesday -- this week if he is one of your IDPs. The linebacker is averaging just a shade under seven tackles a game to date.
