Posey will be released by the Jets, Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports.

Posey played in each of the Jets' first three preseason games, hauling in seven passes for 60 yards and a score. It wasn't quite enough to make the first round of cuts, however, as the former Houston Texan will now be in search of a new home. There are plenty of teams out there that lack the wide receiver depth of the Jets, so Posey shouldn't be searching for long.

Posey was traded to the Jets on Friday along with a combination of draft picks for the No. 70 overall selection, Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans ultimately used the pick on Arizona State wideout Jaelen Strong, who is the leading candidate to start opposite DeAndre Hopkins this season. Posey, meanwhile, is coming off a tough second season, as he struggled to earn playing time following an Achilles injury suffered his rookie year. He could have a difficult time claiming a roster spot with the Jets, who bolstered their receiver corps this offseason with the additions of Brandon Marshall and second-round draft choice Devin Smith.

Posey was inactive last week with no injury, so even if the calf hadn't been an issue, he still may not have cracked the active gameday roster. Damaris Johnson and Keshawn Martin will back up starters DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson.

However, four other players caught at least two passes, so Posey's insertion in the lineup didn't exactly lead to fantasy success. If Johnson is cleared through the concussion protocol and can return for Week 16 against the Ravens, Posey could return to the inactive list, where he was for the first 14 games of the season.

Posey was inactive for Week 1 because head coach Bill O'Brien wanted more defensive backs and linebackers active against Washington, CSN Houston reports.

While sitting a wideout in favor of another defensive player may be a sound game plan strategy, it is surprising that newcomer Damaris Johnson was active ahead of Posey. Johnson apparently got the nod because of his kick/punt return abilities. If both players are active in a given week, we presume Posey would enter the game at wideout before Johnson.

Posey is listed as inactive for Sunday's regular season opener against the Redskins, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Posey's absence comes as a surprise, since he led the Texans with 10 receptions during the preseason and was expected to serve as the team's No. 3 wideout entering Week 1. The third-year receiver was not listed on Houston's injury report this week, so it's unclear why he won't play Sunday. With Posey out, Keshawn Martin figures to move up the depth chart behind the Texans' starting duo Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.

Posey had four catches and a team-leading eight targets for 24 yards in Thursday night's preseason loss to the 49ers.

Posey finishes the preseason with a team-high 10 receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. While nothing is official yet, he's probably done enough to emerge as the third receiver on the depth chart ahead of Keshawn Martin and Mike Thomas.

What should be noted is that Posey was part of the two-minute drill offense when he scored his touchdown. We'll start to get a clearer picture of the wideout depth chart beginning next week. Posey is among a group that includes Keshawn Martin and Mike Thomas.

With Arian Foster (undisclosed) also likely to gobble up targets, there won't be much left for Posey and the other non-Hopkins/Johnson receivers. However, having the inside track to the No. 3 role may put Posey just one injury away from consistent playing time.

Posey, who was being considered as a slot receiver, has been getting reps on the outside with the first team because Andre Johnson (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Coming off a 2012 Achilles' tear, Posey had just 15 catches for 155 yards and no scores in 14 games last season. He'll improve on that this year, but won't get on the fantasy radar while playing behind Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins on a team that wants to defend and run the ball to win. The third receiver job isn't expected to be a big one for new coach Bill O'Brien, who projects to run plenty of "12" formations.

With only two weeks to go, it's likely a season-ending injury for the second-year pro. Posey was held without a catch before going down against Houston, and has just 15 grabs on the year. Posey is not a must-hold in Dynasty leagues, but he's not a must-drop, either.

Posey has taken over as the Texans' third receiver behind Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins. Outside of Dynasty and 20-team leagues, the 2012 third-round pick out of Ohio State carries no fantasy appeal. Posey would need a Johnson or Hopkins injury to be worth consideration in standard settings.
