Sat Aug 30 201412:31Demps released by Buccaneers on Saturday
Demps was released by the Buccaneers on Saturday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Demps entered camp behind three guys with starting experience for the Bucs, and didn't put together strong enough of a preseason to dethrone any of them. His speed may get him a few looks from other teams, but for now he no longer has one.

Demps gained 59 yards on 20 carries in Thursday's final preseason game against the Redskins.
Demps also began the Bucs' lone touchdown drive with a 37-yard kickoff return. Because of his elite speed, Demps may squeak onto Tampa Bay's roster as a versatile back who can return kicks when necessary.
Mon Apr 28 201409:36Jeff Demps gets some slot reps
Jeff Demps got some reps as a slot receiver during last week's workouts.
Per the Tampa Bay Times, Demps "made a lot of plays last week." Of course, the Olympic sprinter is always going to look good in non-contact settings because he's the fastest man in the NFL. At 5'8/191 with little receiving experience, we wouldn't expect him to contribute as a pass-catcher in real games. Demps is a return man and gadget player.

Wed Apr 23 201413:42Bucs KR Demps putting track career on hold
Bucs KR/RB Jeff Demps is putting his track career on hold and focusing solely on football.
Demps is an Olympic sprinter and skipped much of last offseason to run in the IAAF World Championships last August. Bucs KR/RB Jeff Demps underwent groin surgery Thursday.
It's unclear how much time the Olympian will miss, but it's quite possible the Bucs will simply stash him on injured reserve. Including returns, Demps has touched the ball just eight times in two games. He's not a key cog in Tampa.

Bucs activated KR Jeff Demps from the exempt/commissioner's permission list.
Demps was given special dispensation from the league after missing all of the offseason and training camp for the track and field season. They cleared a spot for the speedster by placing TE Luke Stocker on IR. Demps should slide right in as the Bucs kickoff returner.

The Bucs have until Sept. 23 to decide whether to keep KR Jeff Demps on their roster.
The NFL has granted the Bucs a roster exemption for Demps, who has been on the Reserve/Did Not Report list. He took a two-week break after the end of track and field season, finally reporting to Tampa on Monday. "The guy hasnƒ?Tt played football in a while, so we'll try to get him back into playing football and get him educated in the Buccaneer way," coach Greg Schiano said. Demps has two weeks to prove the Bucs should use one of their 53 roster spots on him.

Sun Sep 8 201322:34Jeff Demps expected to report
Bucs KR Jeff Demps is expected to report to the team Monday.
Demps, an Olympic sprinter, missed the entire offseason and ran in the World Championships. It's hard to see the Bucs just welcoming back with open arms and making him active on Sundays. During Sunday's loss to the Jets, Doug Martin, Eric Page and Kevin Ogletree each brought back a kickoff.

Tue Aug 20 201316:25Schiano: Demps will 'supposedly' report
Speaking Tuesday, Bucs coach Greg Schiano said KR Jeff Demps "supposedly" still plans to report to the team.
"He's out there running track somewhere," Schiano said. "So, if he's going to do that - if he gets here and helps us win he will be part of it. If he gets here and can't help us win, he can go back and run track. We are here to win games." Needless to say, it doesn't sound like Demps is a part of Schiano's plans. The practice squad is looking like a stretch right now.

Mon Jul 22 201315:43Jeff Demps accepts relay team invitation
Bucs KR Jeff Demps will not join the team until late in the preseason after accepting an invitation to run in Moscow's IAAF World Championships on August 18.
Demps doubles as an Olympic sprinter, and has all along made it clear his first love is track and field. The Bucs knew this when they acquired Demps from the Patriots for LeGarrette Blount. Demps' event at the Moscow games will be the 4x100 relay. The same relay team won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic games.

Fri Jul 19 201310:11Jeff Demps still planning to join Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Times reports Bucs KR Jeff Demps still hopes to join the team in the coming weeks "depending on his track and field schedule."
Demps is awaiting word on if he'll be running in an event in Moscow from August 10-18. If he is, it would wipe out nearly all of camp and at least two preseason games. Demps would be one of the fastest players in the league - clearly - but it's hard to see him earning a roster spot. Being a two-sport athlete just isn't a realistic endeavor in this day and age.

Sat Apr 27 201320:00Jeff Demps just a throw-in for Bucs
GM Mark Dominik said he would have done the LeGarrette Blount trade even if Jeff Demps hadn't been involved.
"The reason was not Jeff Demps," Dominik explained. "Jeff Demps was part of it, but not the reason. We were going to (trade) LeGarrette Blount for a seventh-round pick but we asked for the rights to Jeff Demps because we want to investigate that further." Beat writer Stephen Holder sounds skeptical that the 2016 Olympic hopeful ends up even playing in a game for the Bucs.

Sat Apr 27 201316:16Returner/track star Jeff Demps traded to Bucs
Bucs acquired KR/RB Jeff Demps and a seventh-round pick in exchange for RB LeGarrette Blount.
Demps wanted to split his focus between football and training for the 2016 Olympics. The Patriots had a problem with that, so they brought in Leon Washington to be their return man. Demps has never played in an NFL game thanks to a preseason leg injury last August, but he did average 28.8 yards per kickoff return while at Florida. He also has a shot to chip in as a gadget kind of niche runner in the Bucs' thin backfield.

Sun Apr 14 201312:49Report: Patriots discussing trading KR Demps
The Boston Herald reports the Patriots have discussed the possibility of trading KR Jeff Demps.
Demps signed with the Patriots last August, but he was placed on injured reserve with a leg injury in what was believed to be a "redshirt" season. Demps has since indicated that his current priority is focusing on track and field in preparation for the Rio Olympics in three years. However, he still wants to play football. New England has signed Leon Washington to be its return man. Demps wouldn't net more than a late-round pick.

Mon Mar 25 201300:20Jeff Demps focusing on track career for now
Patriots KR Jeff Demps indicated that track and field -- not football -- is his current priority.
The Patriots have seemingly already moved on, acquiring Leon Washington to be their new return specialist. In a recent radio appearance, Demps was asked what he'd tell Bill Belichick. "Listen coach, I want to do both," Demps said. "But in order for me to get to where I want to be on the track and field side, it'll take a full year of preparation. And after the season, if you guys are willing to let me come back, you know, probably midseason ... I'll be able to do that." (Did Belichick just laugh?)
