Wed Jan 3114:31Pirates Sign Wily Peralta To Minors Pact
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed right-hander Wily Peralta to a minor-league deal. The deal includes an invitation to big-league spring training. The veteran didn't appear in the big leagues at all in the 2023 season after signing a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals, a little surprising considering he worked to a healthy 2.93 ERA across 47 appearances (19 starts) spanning 132 innings with the Detroit Tigers from 2021-2022. However, he vastly out-pitched his peripherals in that time as he also posted a 4.93 xFIP, 5.15 SIERA, and a very weak 4.9% K-BB% as a member of the Tigers, suggesting regression was a near certainty moving forward. His likeliest path to a roster spot with the Pirates would be as a long reliever who can also make a spot start for the club in 2024.

Tue Jan 31 202316:56Nationals Sign Wily Peralta To Minor-League Deal
The Washington Nationals signed free-agent right-hander Wily Peralta to a minor-league deal on Tuesday that includes an invite to major-league spring training. Peralta was strong for the Detroit Tigers in 28 relief appearances last year, posting a 2.58 ERA (4.08 FIP), 1.51 WHIP, 24 walks and 32 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings pitched. He was eventually released in August and didn't latch on with another team before the end of the year. Peralta has 10 years of big-league experience, including 16 career saves in 911 1/3 innings pitched, so he can offer the Nationals depth in either the rotation (139 career starts) or the bullpen in 2023.

Mon Aug 22 202218:47Wily Peralta Released By Tigers
Detroit Tigers right-hander Wily Peralta cleared waivers and was granted his release on Monday. Peralta wasn't bad for the Tigers this year in 28 outings (one start), posting a 2.58 ERA (4.09 FIP), 1.51 WHIP, 32 strikeouts and 24 walks in 38 1/3 innings, but the two sides will part ways. But his underlying metrics proved that he was pretty fortunate to have an ERA under 3.00 and a 2-0 record. The 33-year-old veteran swing man will hope to latch on with another team to provide an experience bullpen arm down the stretch of the 2022 season.

Thu Jul 28 202209:56Wily Peralta Earns Save In First Rehab Outing
Detroit Tigers right-hander Wily Peralta (hamstring) made his first rehab appearance at Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out three. He wound up earning a save for his efforts. The 33-year-old was primarily used as a starter by the team last year and he pitched well with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. This year, however, he's mostly worked in middle relief and he's maintained a 2.16 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. He landed on the injured list in early July due to a left hamstring strain. It seems likely he'll be back in the majors within the next week.

Sat Apr 16 202210:28Wily Peralta Recalled From Triple-A
The Detroit Tigers selected the contract of right-hander Wily Peralta from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday and designated right-hander Bryan Garcia for assignment in a corresponding move. Peralta got a late start to spring training and was forced to begin the regular season in the minors, but he's now joining the major league roster and could serve a key multi-inning role out of Detroit's bullpen. Peralta struck out four hitters in 4 1/3 minor league innings to begin the year. The 32-year-old veteran won't have any fantasy appeal in a relief role, but he could eventually join the Tigers rotation at some point. Peralta had a 3.07 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 58 strikeouts and 38 walks in 93 2/3 innings over 19 outings (18 starts) last year for the Tigers.

Tue Apr 12 202208:59Wily Peralta Likely To Join Tigers Soon
Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Wily Peralta wasn't able to join the club this spring until April 3 due to visa issues. However, he is in the midst of working his pitch count up in the minors. He recently faced six batters in a Single-A start and allowed one hit and no runs while striking out two. It sounds as if he will be back with the major league club later this month. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, "We'd like him on our team as soon as he's ready." Peralta was one of the best arms the Tigers had last year. He made 19 appearances (18 starts) and pitched to a 3.07 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. While he'll likely be used as a long reliever upon rejoining the team, he could be an option for some spot starts or even a rotation role.

The Detroit Tigers signed right-handed pitcher Wily Peralta to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the agreement. Peralta had a 3.07 ERA with 38 walks and 58 strikeouts in 93 2/3 innings over 19 appearances (18 starts) for Detroit last season. In nine major league seasons, he has a 4.36 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with a mediocre 6.5 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 230 appearances (138 starts) covering 873 innings. Mon Sep 27 202109:49Wily Peralta Struggles Against Royals On Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta wasn't able to keep the Kansas City Royals off the base paths on Sunday. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out three. It took him 100 pitches to get through 4 2/3 innings. Peralta had been stellar on the mound this month prior to Sunday's outing. He had allowed just three earned runs over 21 innings in September and each of his last two outings before Sunday had gone for quality starts. He now has a 3.08 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP over 18 games (17 starts) on the year. His final start of 2021 will come against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

Wed Sep 22 202118:55Wily Peralta Set To Start Sunday
Detroit Tigers right-hander Wily Peralta will start on Sunday, matching up against the Kansas City Royals. Peralta has pitched to a 3.04 ERA, a 4.89 FIP, 52 strikeouts, and 32 walks in 83 innings this season. He's been particularly effective as of late. Since July ended, the veteran is sporting a 2.41 ERA in eight starts spanning 41 innings. He's also allowed just one run in his last 17 innings. The 32-year-old is worth a look as a streaming option on Sunday against a Kansas City lineup that has scored the ninth-fewest runs in the league. The Royals, as a team, also have baseball's lowest walk rate.

Sun Sep 19 202119:01Wily Peralta Shuts Out Rays Over Seven Innings
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta had a fantastic outing against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out three. He earned the win to improve to 4-3 on the year. The 32-year-old right-hander has now posted quality starts in two straight outings. He's allowed just three earned runs over 21 innings in September, good for a 1.35 ERA. However, he has just 13 strikeouts over that same stretch and a minuscule 15.3% strikeout rate on the year. His upside is limited, but fantasy managers who are desperate for pitching help in the final weeks of the year should take a hard look at him. His next start will be a favorable one against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Wed Sep 15 202119:03Wily Peralta Will Start On Sunday
Detroit Tigers right-hander Wily Peralta will draw the start on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The veteran has pitched to a 3.32 ERA, a 4.98 FIP, 49 strikeouts and 29 walks in 76 innings this season. In his last outing, the 32-year-old limited a quality Milwaukee Brewers lineup to two hits and a pair of walks in six shutout innings. He also struck out five batters. Still, it'll be a tough matchup for Peralta on Sunday. The Rays lead all of baseball in runs scored and have hit the sixth-most home runs. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help on Sunday.

Wed Sep 15 202110:08Wily Peralta Fires Six Scoreless Innings Against Brewers
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta had a strong outing against his former team, the Milwaukee Brewers, on Tuesday. He pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five. He now has a 1.93 ERA over three starts this month, though Tuesday's outing was his first one that lasted over four innings. The veteran right-hander has been one of the Tigers' most consistent starting pitchers this season. Over 16 games (15 starts) on the year, Peralta has a 3.32 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He isn't pitching very deep into games and he has just a 15.3% strikeout rate to go along with a 1.7 K/BB ratio, but he's usable in fantasy in the right matchups. He'll make his next start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

Sat Sep 4 202116:37Wily Peralta Is Starting On Tuesday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta will take the mound on Tuesday for a matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran has a 3.68 ERA and a 5.27 FIP in 66 innings this season. He's also struck out 41 batters and walked 24. The low strikeouts aren't ideal, but Peralta could be worth a look as a streaming option on Tuesday for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. Pittsburgh ranks last in baseball in runs scored, wRC+, and home runs.

Thu Sep 2 202109:45Wily Peralta Pitches Four Innings In His Return
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta (finger) was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to his start against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. He went on to pitch four innings in the game, allowing four hits, one walk and three runs (two earned) while striking out two. Peralta was sidelined for the minimum 10 days due to a right finger blister. He has had a solid year for the Tigers, going 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over 14 games (13 starts). However, he hasn't been pitching very deep into games and he has a minuscule 14.8% strikeout rate, which ranks in the bottom 4% of the league. Wed Sep 1 202119:10Tigers Activate Wily Peralta From The Injured List
The Detroit Tigers activated starting pitcher Wily Peralta (finger) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. Peralta has pitched to a 3.63 ERA, a 5.21 FIP, 39 strikeouts, and 23 walks in 62 innings this season. The high FIP and low strikeout numbers mean Peralta is likely only a streaming option in deeper leagues for the rest of the season. Furthermore, Peralta's rather low .242 BABIP hints at some regression potentially coming in the future.

Sun Aug 22 202112:58Wily Peralta Hits 10-Day IL
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta is going to the 10-day injured list with a right finger blister, according to the Detroit Free Press. Right-handed reliever Alex Lange is back from Triple-A Toledo. Peralta, who is 3-3 this year with a 3.63 ERA, can be stashed on the fantasy IL in very deep leagues as the 32-year-old is having a decent year and the absence could be relatively short. Still, managers needing immediate help may be better off turning to streaming options from the free-agent pool, especially considering Peralta's low strikeout rate.

Sun Aug 15 202112:01Wily Peralta Allows Three Runs Over 4 1/3 Innings
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta had a short outing in the team's 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. Peralta pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, three walks and three earned runs while striking out six. His six strikeouts matched his season-high. While he's pitched decently well this year, strikeouts have not been his specialty. His 15.6% strikeout rate ranks in the bottom 5% of the league. He has a 3.70 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over 12 games (11 starts) on the year. He can be considered for streaming services in fantasy, but he isn't the most enticing waiver wire add. His next start will be on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sun Aug 8 202117:36Wily Peralta Tagged For Five Runs In Sunday's Game
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Wily Peralta pitched five innings in his start against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. He allowed six hits, one walk and five runs, though only two of them were earned. He struck out four batters in the game. Through 11 games (10 starts) on the year, Peralta has a 3.48 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. While those are solid marks, he's clearly been a bit lucky. He entered Sunday's game with a 4.93 xERA on the year as well as a minuscule 14.1% strikeout rate. He can be left on waivers in all fantasy leagues. His next start will be against the Indians once again on Saturday.

Sat Jul 24 202103:13Rafael Devers homers twice, Red Sox beat Yankees 6-2
BOSTON (AP) — Rafael Devers hit two home runs, including a go-ahead blast in the fifth inning, to help the Boston Red Sox best New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the second straight time at Fenway Park in a 6-2 victory Friday night. Devers followed his two-run with a three-run homer in the seventh — the 100th of his career — to help Boston improve to 9-2 against New York this season. The Red Sox maintained their one-game AL East lead over Tampa Bay and increased their lead to nine games over the third-place Yankees. Yacksel Rios (3-0) got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to cap a strong night from the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the second inning after experiencing migraine symptoms. Cole (10-5) started strong for New York, but was pulled after fiving innings, giving up three runs off six hits, striking out eight and walking two.
