Tue Nov 7 202301:26Tigers Pick Up Mark Canha's Option
The Detroit Tigers picked up the 2024 options on outfielder Mark Canha ($11.5 million) and catcher Carson Kelly ($3.5 million) on Monday. It's no surprise the Tigers picked up Canha's option after acquiring him on Saturday from the Milwaukee Brewers. The 34-year-old has a career .349 on-base percentage and hit a combined .262/.355/.400 slash line with 11 home runs, 25 doubles, a triple, 62 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 51 runs scored in 139 games with the Brewers and New York Mets in 2023. While Canha doesn't offer the most intriguing fantasy profile entering the 2024 campaign, he should have the opportunity for plenty of playing time between the outfield and designated hitter in Detroit. Kelly, 29, hit .206 (28-for-136) with two homers and 13 RBI in 50 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit this year. He'll enter next year as the primary backup to Jake Rogers.

Sat Nov 4 202313:28Tigers Acquire Mark Canha From Brewers
The Detroit Tigers acquired outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday in exchange for right-hander Blake Holub. Canha will now head to his third different team in the last year. The 34-year-old veteran began the 2023 campaign with the New York Mets, hitting .245 (63-for-257) with six homers, 29 RBI and seven stolen bases in 89 games before being traded to Milwaukee midseason. In 50 contests with the Brew Crew, he went 51-for-178 (.287) with five long balls, 33 RBI and four stolen bases. Canha will now join the Tigers and compete for playing time in the outfield with Akil Baddoo, Kerry Carpenter, Zach McKinstry and Matt Vierling. Holub, 25, had a 3.03 ERA and eight saves in 48 relief outings with Single-A Michigan and Double-A Erie in 2023.

Fri Sep 15 202318:12Mark Canha Returns To The Lineup
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Mark Canha (wrist) has returned to the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Washington Nationals. This is the first time that Canha has played since exiting early on Tuesday due to wrist soreness. The good news is that the MRI has ruled out any structural damage. The 34-year-old will cover right field and bat sixth versus right-hander Jake Irvin on Friday. Fantasy managers who have Canha rostered should get him back in their lineups.

Thu Sep 14 202312:17Mark Canha Remains Out Against Marlins
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Mark Canha (wrist) remains out of action on Thursday with the team taking on the visiting Miami Marlins. Canha received a cortisone injection in his sore left wrist on Wednesday and will continue to be held out until he feels better. He should be considered day-to-day for now, and the hope is that the 34-year-old will be able to return at some point this weekend for a series against the Washington Nationals. With Canha out again, third baseman Josh Donaldson is serving as the designated hitter and is batting fifth for the Brew Crew. Since joining Milwaukee in a midseason trade from the New York Mets, Canha has played well, going 37-for-122 (.303) with four home runs, 21 RBI and 18 runs in 36 games.

Tue Sep 12 202321:21Mark Canha Exits Game With Wrist Soreness
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Mark Canha (wrist) left Tuesday's contest against the Miami Marlins prematurely after dealing with left wrist soreness, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Before his exit, he walked in his only plate appearance while scoring a run. The 34-year-old has been a boring fantasy option this season, split between the New York Mets and the Brewers, as he's hit .264 with 10 bombs, 46 runs, 50 RBI, and eight steals over 125 games. Only fantasy managers in the OBP leagues should be concerned with this news, considering his solid .360 OBP. Check back in for more updates.

Thu Aug 17 202321:13Mark Canha Sits Out On Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Mark Canha is absent from Thursday's starting lineup versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 34-year-old produced the only run for his team during Wednesday's loss. This appears to be a routine rest day for the veteran outfielder. In his absence, William Contreras will serve as the designated hitter and bat second versus right-hander Lance Lynn on Thursday.

Mon Jul 31 202318:14Mark Canha Moving From Mets To The Brewers
The New York Mets have traded outfielder Mark Canha to the Milwaukee Brewers ahead of the Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline. The Mets will receive 23-year-old pitching prospect Justin Jarvis in return. The 33-year-old has a club option for the 2024 season attached to him as part of the two-year, $26.5 million deal he signed with the Mets prior to the 2022 season. It's been a solid season at the plate for the veteran as Canha is hitting .245 with six homers, seven stolen bases, and a .724 OPS across 89 appearances on the campaign. The Brewers have been forced to go with a youthful outfield of late with Joey Wiemer and Sal Frelick joining Christian Yelich on the outfield grass while part-time outfielder Brian Anderson is on the injured list and Tyrone Taylor has struggled mightily since returning from a lengthy IL stint of his own. Canha should be able to provide a stabilizing veteran presence while likely starting against left-handed pitching.

Fri Jul 28 202314:39Dodgers Showing Interest In Mark Canha, Tommy Pham
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to bulk up their roster as they attempt to stay on top of the NL West. That being said, the team is reportedly interested in acquiring outfielders Mark Canha and Tommy Pham from the New York Mets. The Mets are reportedly seeking lower level prospects in return for the veteran outfielders. Canha is slashing .242/.339/.379 with six home runs and 29 RBI in 72 games. Pham is doing better with a .266/.349/.464 slash line with nine home runs, 35 RBI, and 11 steals in 61 games. Both players are set to become free agents at the end of the season.

Thu Jul 20 202317:33Mariners Could Pursue Trade For Mark Canha
Other teams have asked the New York Mets about the availability of outfielder Mark Canha, and a possible match could be with the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners are familiar with Canha from his years in the American League West with the Oakland Athletics and pursued him in free agency two winters ago. The disappointing Mets are likely to be sellers at the Aug. 1 trade deadline. Canha hasn't been very special for fantasy managers in his second season with the Mets, as he's slashing .244/.346/.396 with six homers, 28 RBI, seven steals and 27 runs in 225 at-bats, but he'd fill a need for the Mariners the rest of the way in the outfield after they just lost Jarred Kelenic with a fractured foot.

Wed Jul 19 202315:48Mark Canha Hitting The Bench Wednesday
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha is back on the bench Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Touki Toussaint. The veteran went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's 11-10 win over the White Sox but will sit on Wednesday while Jeff McNeil takes over in right field. It's been a nice season for the former Oakland Athletic as Canha is hitting .244 with six homers, seven stolen bases, a 10.5% BB%, and a .742 OPS across 79 contests, good for a healthy 111 wRC+. However, he hasn't recorded a multi-hit effort in seven straight starts and has just one such effort since June 11. His lack of impact power has kept him off the fantasy radar this season.

Wed May 10 202314:33Mark Canha On The Bench Wednesday Versus Reds
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Hunter Greene. The veteran is getting regular time off amid a slow start to the season. Canha hasn't enjoyed a multi-hit effort since back on April 22 while he has just two hits in his last four games spanning 15 trips to the plate. For the season, the left fielder is hitting just .216 with three homers, two stolen bases, and a .657 OPS across 128 trips to the plate. His 86 wRC+ represents a figure 14% below the league average while he sits in the 18th percentile in hard-hit rate and 20th in average exit velocity. Jeff McNeil will slide into left field in Canha's stead Wednesday night.

Thu Feb 23 202312:20Mark Canha Over Gastritis Issues
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha (stomach) was dealing with gastritis last year and was unable to keep weight on. "I was lighter last year at the beginning because I had trouble eating and feeling good," Canha said. His gastritis has subsided, though, and he's back to feeling healthy again. Canha's goal is to hit 10 more homers in 2023, and he's hoping the muscle mass he added in the offseason will help him accomplish that goal. The 34-year-old hit .266/.367/.403 with a .770 OPS, 13 home runs and 61 RBI in 140 games in his first year with the Mets in 2022. Better health is good news for those looking to draft Canha this year. He was already a great target in on-base percentage leagues, and hopefully his counting stats improve as well.

Sun Aug 21 202221:05Mark Canha Blasts Two Homers
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha made a huge impact during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in the come back victory. The right-handed slugger crushed a three-run home run off Connor Brogdon in the seventh inning. Then, Canha delivered a two-run homer off reliever David Robertson in the ninth inning. This marked his third multi home run game of his career. There is some deep league value in his bat, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect this power surge to continue.

Sat Aug 20 202212:24Mark Canha Sitting In Game 1
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Canha also sat out Friday night's win over the Phillies, but he'll almost certainly return for the nightcap in Game 2. The 33-year-old isn't flashy, but he's had a solid year in his first year with the Mets, slashing .272/.372/.392 with eight home runs, 42 RBI, 51 runs scored and two stolen bases in 324 at-bats. Tyler Naquin will get a second straight start in left field and will hit seventh against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler in Game 1. Naquin went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts in Friday night, although he's hitting .278 (10-for-36) with three home runs and six RBI in 15 games in August, and he's been much better against righties in 2022.

Fri Aug 19 202216:17Mark Canha Retreats To The Bench
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. It appears to just be a normal day off for Canha, who has gone 11-for-40 (.275) with a homer, eight RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games so far in the month of August. The 33-year-old is having a fine season in his first year in the Big Apple, slashing .272/.372/.392 with eight round-trippers, 42 RBI, 51 runs scored and two stolen bases in 324 at-bats. Tyler Naquin is starting in left field and batting seventh against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Naquin has been much better against right-handed pitchers in 2022, going 48-for-177 (.271) with eight of his 10 home runs in 66 games.

Mon Aug 1 202216:20Mark Canha Steals Base In Three-Hit Game
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha once again filled the stat sheet Sunday, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in a 9-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. Canha has not been outstanding in any one fantasy category, but he's contributed a .748 OPS, seven home runs, 43 runs scored, 34 RBI, and two stolen bases in 317 plate appearances this season. He has occasionally sat against tough righties, but he should continue to be a steady fantasy presence on a very good Mets team regardless of any trade deadline acquisitions to come.

Mon Jul 25 202210:13Mark Canha Doubles Sunday
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha was 2-for-3 on Sunday with a double and an RBI during the 8-5 win over the San Diego Padres. Canha hasn't hit for much power this season, smashing just seven home runs and posting a .382 slugging. However, he's batting a respectable .270 with .382 OBP. Fantasy managers can expect him to keep contributing a bit to batting average, but with the small number of home runs and just one stolen base, most of his value comes in OBP leagues.

Tue May 31 202213:24Mark Canha Scores Three Runs Monday
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha reached base three times against the Washington Nationals Monday, going 2-for-4 with a walk, and he came around to score each time. Canha has had a productive last 15 games, slashing .286/.365/.446 with three of his four homers on the season in 56 at-bats. The power is a welcome sight, as Canha has only managed five extra-base hits on the season. He's bound to score runs in a potent offense, but until the slugging picks up, Canha is only a borderline fantasy option.

In 170 plate appearances this season, McNeil is batting .323 with a .376 on-base percentage, two home runs, and two stolen bases. The veteran has yet to face Junis at the Major League level.

Sat May 21 202212:58Mark Canha Sitting For Game 1 Of Doubleheader
New York Mets outfielder Mark Canha is out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies. Starling Marte is making his return from the bereavement list in the game. He'll be batting second and covering right field. Joining him in the outfield will be Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil. Canha is off to a nice start to the 2022 season. Over 30 games, he's slashing .294/.376/.392 with three home runs, 14 RBI and 16 runs. Expect to see him back in the lineup for Game 2 on Saturday.
