RHP Cory Mazzoni was recalled from Triple-A El Paso prior to Tuesday's game. Mazzoni, who hasn't pitched in the majors since a brief stint with the Padres in 2015, had a 0.89 ERA in 14 relief appearances for El Paso this season. He allowed four runs on four hits in Tuesday's 16-0 loss to the Twins.

The Padres recalled Mazzoni on Friday and placed him on the 60-day DL with a right shoulder strain.

Mazzoni struggled mightily in eight appearances with San Diego earlier this season but certainly held his own at Triple-A El Paso, posting a 1.09 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB in 34 innings before suffering the shoulder injury. Wil Myers (wrist) was activated from the 60-day DL in a corresponding move.

Mazzoni was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Mazzoni, who was recalled on Monday, struggled mightily in his two outings with the Padres this week. He allowed five earned runs on four hits over one inning of work in his first appearance and was then shelled for seven runs in 0.2 innings Wednesday. The Padres recalled infielder Brett Wallace from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

Mazzoni was recalled from Triple-A El Paso, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Mazzoni has struggled significantly in the majors this season and has been outstanding in the minors. For the Padres he's given up 10 runs (eight earned) in seven innings while holding a 1.99 ERA in 22.2 innings for Triple-A El Paso. The Padres hope he can capture the form from El Paso and bring that to San Diego.

Mazzoni was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Mazzoni's second stint with the major league club went better than his first -- he gave up two earned runs over five innings after allowing six runs in two innings during his first tenure. The Padres will roll with a seven-man bullpen for now, but Mazzoni figures to be among the candidates the next time they need a fresh arm.
