Fri Mar 809:25Josh Bell Off To Slow Start
Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell has been off to a slow start this spring with just three hits and two walks over his first 13 at-bats. To be fair, most of the Marlins hitters have been ice-cold thus far in the Grapefruit League. Bell, 31, was acquired by the Marlins last season at the trade deadline and fared well with a .270 batting average to go along with 11 homers and 26 RBI in 53 games down the stretch for Miami. The most likely scenario remains that Bell will be the Opening Day first baseman, but the Marlins have Luis Arraez who can slide to first if any of their young infielders, such as Vidal Brujan and Xavier Edwards have strong springs. For now, Bell remains a power bat with a low batting average, but managers can never have too much power and he is worth a look with an ADP of 296.

Sun Nov 5 202319:58Josh Bell Staying With Marlins
Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell has decided to stick around for at least one more season. The 31-year-old slugger has decided to accept his $16.5 player option for the 2024 season. On paper, this appears to be a good decision on both sides. Last season, Bell slashed .270/.338/.480 with 11 homers and 26 RBI over 224 plate appearances in his 53 games with the Marlins. He figures to play everyday and will be locked into a spot in the middle of the lineup.

Wed Oct 4 202312:23Josh Bell Produces Three Hits In Game 1 Loss
Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell did his part on Tuesday, but the team came up short in a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the wild-card series. Bell finished the contest 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. He had three of the team's seven hits on the night. The 31-year-old veteran left-handed hitter has done his fair share of damage against the Phillies this year and will hope to keep it going in Game 2 on Wednesday as the Fish look to keep their season alive and force a deciding Game 3 on Thursday in Philadelphia. Bell has a pretty big challenge on his hands in Game 2 against Phils right-hander Aaron Nola, who he has gone just 5-for-27 (.185) against in his career, although he does have two home runs, a double and five RBI against him.

Wed Aug 9 202318:28Josh Bell Smashes A Homer From Both Sides Of The Plate Wednesday
Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell smashed a solo shot in the fourth frame while batting left-handed, and in the eighth inning, he blasted a three-run homer from the right side of the plate. His second home run evened up the score at 4-4 with the Reds. Bell is the first Marlins player in their 31-year history to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in a single contest. The 30-year-old has 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 378 trips to the plate in 2023.

Wed Aug 2 202323:21Josh Bell Collects Four Hits
Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell put together a memorable first game with his new team. The switch-hitter posted a strong 4-for-5 performance with a home run to help lead the Marlins to a 9-8 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Bell has struggled this season slashing .241/.326/.398 with 12 home runs. However, he looked good during his first game with the Marlins. He was in the three-hole for this game and figures to see more time in the spot. Bell could start having more fantasy value if he continues batting in that spot for Miami going forward.

Wed Aug 2 202314:57Josh Bell, Jake Burger Making Marlins Debuts Wednesday
Miami Marlins infielders Josh Bell and Jake Burger are both in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Zack Wheeler. The Marlins acquired the former AL Central players prior to Tuesday's MLB trade deadline as Bell will man first base out of the three-hole while Burger gets the nod at third base and will hit sixth in his Marlins debut. Bell, 30, hasn't had his best season at the plate in 2023 as he's hitting just .233 with 11 home runs and a .701 OPS across 97 games on the season. Burger, however, has enjoyed a fruitful campaign, hitting just .214 but also launched 25 home runs alongside an .806 OPS across 88 appearances with the White Sox.

Tue Aug 1 202319:26Josh Bell Headed To Marlins
Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Bell is on the move to the Miami Marlins. The switch-hitting cover infielder will head over to Miami in exchange for infielders Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson. The Guardians recently acquired top prospect Kyle Manzardo in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. That being said, they wanted to free up a spot for the top prospect to play going forward. Bell is able to opt-out of his contract after the season, but is owed $16.5 million if he opts in. There is a good chance he doesn't head for free agency, which could be good for the Marlins. This season, Bell is slashing .233/.318/.383 with 11 home runs and 48 RBI over 97 games. Segura hasn't done much with the bat this season, so the big win for the Guardians is getting Watson back in this deal.

Sun Jun 18 202314:13Josh Bell Absent From Sunday's Lineup
Cleveland Guardians first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game with Zach Davies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old has been cold at the plate in his first season with Cleveland, batting .231 with just six home runs, 14 runs, and 31 RBI. With Bell on the bench, Tyler Freeman is getting the start at third base and batting sixth. The second-year player has posted a .279/.304/.372 slash line with no homers and one steal across 19 games. Freeman's batting average would be a nice addition to any fantasy lineup, but that's about all fantasy managers will get if they stream the 24-year-old.

Wed May 31 202322:56Josh Bell Homers, Crosses Plate For First Time In A Month
Cleveland Guardians first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell went 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Wednesday. The 30-year-old chipped in to the team's offensive surge in a win over the Baltimore Orioles 12-8. Bell was brought in by the Guardians this past offseason to provide their contact-oriented lineup with a thumper in the heart of the batting order. However, the former Silver Slugger has supplied only four blasts and 25 RBI with a .224 average this year. Bell has become a mostly forgotten player in shallow fantasy circles with the lack of production; he scored his first run since April 29 in this one. The switch-hitting slugger has some work to do before becoming worth rostering again outside of deep formats.

Sun Apr 16 202320:30Josh Bell Drives In A Run On Sunday
Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Bell went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a strikeout in a 7-6 loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Bell whacked an RBI double, his fifth of the season, to score Steven Kwan in the top of the third inning. The RBI gave Cleveland a 4-2 lead, which wouldn't last. After a painfully slow start to the season, the switch-hitting 30-year-old is slashing .276/.323/.552 with a home run and five RBI over his last seven games. Overall, Bell has a triple-slash line of .190/.304/.328 with the lone home run, seven RBI, and four runs scored. It seems like he's starting to pick things up at the dish and that could continue when the Guardians start a three-game series with Detroit Tigers on the road on Monday.

Tue Apr 4 202321:13Josh Bell Getting Rest Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup against the Oakland Athletics, according to MLB.com. Instead, Josh Naylor will move to DH, and Gabriel Arias will bat sixth and play first base. The club probably made the decision based on the pitching on the other side, as left-hander JP Sears takes the bump. Bell owns a .768 OPS against lefties versus a .829 OPS against righties during his career. Arias, 23, has just 20 Major League games to his resume and owns a .192/.311/.327 lifetime slash line, making him not much of a fantasy option.

Tue Dec 6 202215:58Josh Bell Lands With The Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians signed free-agent first baseman Josh Bell to a two-year deal worth $33 million on Tuesday. The deal includes an opt-out clause after next season. It was reported earlier in the day that Bell was among the players on Cleveland's list. The 30-year-old switch-hitting first baseman hit .301 with 14 home runs, 57 RBI and 52 runs scored in 103 games for the Washington Nationals in the first half of the season before being traded to the San Diego Padres. In 53 regular season games for the Friars, Bell was a liability at the plate, hitting just .192/.316/.271 with three homers, 14 RBI and 26 runs scored. Bell will give the Guardians some much-needed power, and they'll be hoping that he can offer more middle-of-the-order protection for third baseman Jose Ramirez.

Sat Oct 22 202217:40Josh Bell Starting Against A Left-Hander
San Diego Padres first baseman Josh Bell is in the starting lineup as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies and left-hander Bailey Falter. Brandon Drury is at first base and batting sixth, with Wil Myers starting on the bench. Bell typically starts on the pine when the Padres face a southpaw, but Falter isn't expected to go more than a few innings, and Bell is also a switch-hitter. The 30-year-old has seven hits in his first 29 career postseason at-bats with two home runs, four RBI, three runs and 10 strikeouts. It hasn't been a great postseason by any means for Bell, but he does have four hits in his last six at-bats in two games with a homer and two RBI.

Fri Oct 21 202218:38Josh Bell Sitting Friday Against A Lefty
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell will retreat to the bench for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. With lefty Ranger Suarez on the bump, manager Bob Melvin has decided to go with Brandon Drury at DH and Wil Myers at first base. Bell is a switch-hitter, but Drury and Myers have both mashed left-handed pitching this season, leaving Bell no spot to fit into. He could be used as a pinch-hitter against either a right or lefty late in the game, which is a nice option for the Padres to have. Bell is just 6-for-27 but does have two homers this postseason. Expect him to continue sitting against lefties for the remainder of the playoffs.

Wed Oct 12 202218:11Josh Bell Starting On The Bench Again In Game 2
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell is on the bench again for Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and left-handed starter Clayton Kershaw. The left-handed-hitting Bell will likely start on the bench again in this series once left-hander Tyler Anderson makes his start at some point when the series shifts to San Diego this weekend. Bell came in as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning in the Game 1 loss on Tuesday and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Brandon Drury is serving as the designated hitter again on Wednesday and is hitting cleanup. Drury is 0-for-6 with three strikeouts in two playoff games this year, but he's a much better hitter against lefties.

Tue Oct 11 202218:26Josh Bell Sitting In Game 1 Against Lefty
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday against Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias. Bell showed signs of life at the plate for the Padres in the Wild-Card Series win over the New York Mets by going 3-for-13 with a home run and two RBI, but he'll begin the NLDS on the bench against a tough southpaw. Brandon Drury is serving as the designated hitter on Tuesday and will bat cleanup against Urias. In 155 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers in 2022, Drury hit .299 (44-for-147) with 12 of his 28 home runs and 26 RBI.

Fri Oct 7 202217:28Josh Bell Hitting Cleanup For Padres In Game 1
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell is in the lineup for Game 1 of their series against the New York Mets. He is the designated hitter and will bat cleanup for the Friars. Bell had been sitting quite a bit down the stretch and dropped down the order when he did play, but he's back in the four spot Friday night. He has been miserable since he was traded to the Padres, slashing .192/.316/.271 with just three homers in 177 at-bats. He does have good career numbers against Max Scherzer, going 5-for-12 (.417) with three doubles and a homer against the Mets ace. It sounds like Padres manager Bob Melvin will be playing the matchups this series.

Fri Sep 30 202218:09Josh Bell In Lineup Friday
San Diego Padres first baseman Josh Bell is back in the lineup Friday as the team's designated hitter against Davis Martin and the Chicago White Sox. Bell sat the Padres previous two games, and he has now sat four of the team's last seven games, as he appears to be in a platoon role with the Friars. After a torrid first half, Bell has been a complete dud to close out the season. His September slash line of .186/.278/.243 is the stuff of nightmares for fantasy owners who were counting on him as part of their playoff team. He is droppable in any daily lineup league and has taken a considerable hit to his value for next season.

Fri Sep 23 202218:19Josh Bell Not In Padres Lineup Friday
San Diego Padres first baseman Josh Bell is out of the lineup Friday against the Colorado Rockies. It's a tough break for fantasy managers, who were likely hoping Bell would break out of his current slump with a series at Coors Field. Bell has now sat out three of the team's last seven games, as the Padres don't have the time to sit around and let the 30-year-old figure it out. He has an abysmal .196/.309/.288 slash line with the Padres and has only three homers, 23 runs and 11 RBI in 179 plate appearances with the Friars. If Bell doesn't show up this weekend, fantasy managers going into the finals in head-to-head leagues might want to look at another option for next week.

Mon Aug 22 202200:13Josh Bell Hits Two-Run Shot
San Diego Padres first baseman Josh Bell carried the team to victory Sunday, providing all the offense in a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals with a two-run home run. Bell went 1-for-4 against his old team to give him round-trippers in back-to-back games. Fantasy managers will hope this is a return to earlier success for Bell, who has slashed .138/.263/.262 with just five RBI over his last 30 games. For the season, Bell is enjoying a strong campaign with an .825 OPS, 16 homers, 64 runs scored, and 62 RBI in 513 plate appearances.
