Fri Jun 15 201813:25Slumping Twins bring Mauer back from rehab
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have returned first baseman Joe Mauer from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the disabled list after a 25-game absence because of a neck strain and concussion-like symptoms resulting from a dive for a foul ball. The move was made on Friday before Minnesota's game at Cleveland. Third baseman Miguel Sano was sent to Class A Fort Myers on Thursday.Mauer went hitless in 10 at-bats over three games with Triple-A Rochester, but the Twins lineup badly needs a boost from the three-time American League batting champion. They're in the bottom third of the major leagues in most offensive categories. The Twins also recalled infielder Taylor Motter from Rochester after sending outfielder Jake Cave down on Thursday.___For more AP baseball coverage: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball
Fri Apr 27 201821:27No consecutive no-hitters for Sean Manaea
HOUSTON (AP) — Oakland's Sean Manaea won't be pitching consecutive no-hitters.Houston's Carlos Correa singled cleanly through the right side off the Athletics pitcher in the fourth inning on Friday night, ending Manaea's hitless streak at 14 innings.A 26-year-old left-hander, Manaea pitched a no-hitter against Boston last Saturday. The only pitcher to throw consecutive no-hitters was Cincinnati's Johnny Vander Meer against Brooklyn and the Boston Bees in June 1938.Manaea started with three perfect innings against the Astros before George Springer reached on a throwing error by shortstop Marcus Semien starting the fourth. Springer tagged and advanced on Jose Altuve's flyout and scored on Springer's single — the first hit off Manaea since Seattle's Taylor Motter hit a one-out solo homer in the fifth inning on April 15.Manaea's scoreless streak was the longest for the A's since the franchise moved to Oakland, topping Blue Moon Odom's 13 innings on June 1 and 7, 1968.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseball

Wed Mar 28 201820:51Ichiro Suzuki to be in lineup as Mariners open vs Indians
SEATTLE (AP) — The lingering question of whether Ichiro Suzuki would be ready for opening day was solved on Wednesday.Yes, he'll be on the Seattle Mariners 25-man roster, despite a lingering calf injury. And, yes, he'll be in left field on Thursday night when the Mariners open the season hosting the Cleveland Indians."It was a crazy spring for him getting in late and having a little setback with the calf injury but I think he showed us enough here the last couple of days that he can get out there, run around and help us out a little bit," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "As I said when we brought him in he'll hit at the bottom of the lineup, he'll help in a number of different ways. But obviously he'll be in the lineup tomorrow night."This isn't turn back the clock night, although the nostalgia will be thick — let alone the challenge of facing Cleveland ace Corey Kluber and one of the powerhouse clubs in the American League. It'll be Suzuki's first regular season game in a Seattle uniform... [More]
Tue Mar 27 201819:30Mariners unsure whether Suzuki will start season on DL
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Seattle Mariners are monitoring Ichiro Suzuki's strained right calf to determine whether he'll be on the opening day roster or the disabled list.Suzuki went 0 for 3 with a walk and played seven innings in left field Tuesday in the 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies."I don't think he's quite at 100 percent yet," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He's moving much better. He feels better out there. We'll see how he feels tomorrow and make a decision from there."Suzuki is hitless in 10 at-bats with two walks and five strikeouts since signing on March 7."Unfortunately the leg injury with Ichiro slowed him down in the number of at-bats he can get and the comfort level he's got," Servais said. "It's more about just getting him healthy and making sure he's good to go when the bell rings on Thursday. The leg is what worries me, making sure he can move around and there's nothing he's guarding against in left field. Being able to cover the ground, he needs to get... [More]

Luhnow said he did not know the original cause of the fracture."It was non-symptomatic until recently and he started to feel something," Luhnow said. "Once you start feeling something, the right course of action is to just remove it because it's a pretty reliable surgery, and we know what the outcome is going to be."The 33-year-old Gurriel hit .299 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs last year in his first full season in the majors.
