Wed Dec 6 202300:19Marco Gonzales Traded To Pirates
The Atlanta Braves traded newly-acquired starting pitcher Marco Gonzales and cash considerations to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later. The Braves acquired the left-handed veteran from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night as part of a deal for outfielder Jared Kelenic. Gonzales will now slot into a Pirates' rotation desperately in need of support. He went 4-1 with a 5.22 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 15.8% strikeout rate in 10 starts in 2023 before being shut down in August due to surgery to fix a nerve issue in his left forearm. While Gonzales has served as a stable rotation piece who can eat innings in the past, his lack of strikeout upside and pitch-to-contact approach limit his fantasy value.

Tue Dec 5 202301:17Braves Don't Plan On Keeping Marco Gonzales
The Atlanta Braves do not plan on keeping left-hander Marco Gonzales after acquiring him from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night as part of a package that also landed them outfielder Jarred Kelenic and first baseman Evan White, according to sources. Gonzales is expected to be part of another deal, but his destination is currently unknown. The 31-year-old southpaw's season came to an end in August when he had surgery to fix a nerve issue in his left forearm. The good news is he's expected to be ready for spring training in 2024, but he's not going to have a ton of fantasy appeal as a soft-tossing starter who had a bloated 5.22 ERA, 1.46 and only 34 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched over 10 starts for Seattle. Gonzales' has been a reliable innings-eater in his career, but he doesn't miss enough bats to move the fantasy needle.

Mon Dec 4 202311:35Braves Acquire Jarred Kelenic, Marco Gonzales, Evan White
The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales and first baseman Evan White from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night in exchange for pitchers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips. Kelenic, a former top prospect, struggled in his three seasons with Seattle. However, he was having his best year in 2023 before fracturing his toe when he kicked a water cooler in the dugout in frustration. The 24-year-old will have some sleeper appeal with the move to Atlanta, and he should start regularly in left field against right-handed pitching. Gonzales, 31, struggled to an ERA over 5.00 in 2023 and made only 10 starts due to surgery on his left forearm. White, 27, who hasn't played in the big leagues the last two years, was mainly a salary dump for the M's. He has season-ending hip surgery in May.

Thu Aug 10 202319:55Marco Gonzales May Not Make It Back
Seattle Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales' (forearm) status for the rest of the 2023 season remains unclear after general manager Justin Hollander said on Tuesday that the nerve irritation in his left forearm is still there. "Just the amount of time -- even if he felt great today, he would need a significant ramp-up, having been out for a while. It's becoming less likely by the day," Hollander said. Gonzales was moved to the 60-day injured list on July 26 and has been out of action since June 3. Fantasy managers that are still holding onto the 31-year-old southpaw should probably cut bait and look for better options. In his 10 starts this year, Gonzales has a 5.22 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and only 34 strikeouts in 50 innings of work.

Sat Jun 3 202313:21Marco Gonzales Lands On The 15-Day Injured List
Seattle Mariners left-handed starting pitcher Marco Gonzales (forearm) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain. The veteran southpaw pitched well in his last start against the Pirates on Sunday but started to experience some forearm tightness afterward. You never like to see a pitcher having forearm issues so it's safe to assume Gonzales will be out for at least the minimum of 15 days. He currently has no timetable for his return as he's set to undergo further tests over the weekend. Easton McGee (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list and Bryan Woo was recalled from Double-A Arkansas in a pair of corresponding moves.

Fri Jun 2 202319:58Marco Gonzales Having Tests On Forearm
Seattle Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales (forearm) is having tests on his left forearm back in Seattle, which is why the Mariners are calling up pitching prospect Bryan Woo to start against the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Gonzales had discomfort in his left forearm in his most recent start against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Sunday and will now miss at least his start this weekend in Texas. We'll have to wait for the results of the 31-year-old southpaw's tests, but there's a good chance he'll be placed on the injured list. In 10 starts for Seattle so far this year, Gonzales is 4-1 with a 5.22 ERA (4.31 FIP), 1.46 WHIP, 18 walks and 34 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. He had a 5.68 ERA in four May starts and just doesn't carry enough strikeout upside to be a very reliable mixed-league fantasy arm.

Fri Apr 14 202317:10Marco Gonzales Goes On Paternity List, Tommy Malone Starting Friday
Seattle Mariners executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander announced Friday that the team placed left-hander Marco Gonzales on the paternity list, recalled left-hander Tommy Milone from Triple-A Tacoma and designated right-hander J.B. Bukauskas for assignment. Gonzalez was scheduled to start on Friday against the Colorado Rockies, but Milone will now take the hill. The 31-year-old Gonzales should return to Seattle's starting rotation at some point next week. He's allowed five runs on 12 hits (one homer) while walking five and striking out six in 10 2/3 innings in his first two starts of the season. Similar to Gonzales, the 36-year-old Milone has very little strikeout upside and shouldn't be a very popular DFS streamer in his spot start.

Sat Mar 4 202309:55Marco Gonzales Fans Three Against D-Backs
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales turned in a nice performance on Friday in Cactus League play in the 6-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gonzales picked up the win and allowed three hits while walking two and striking out three in 3 2/3 scoreless innings. It was a nice bounce-back outing in spring training after he allowed four earned runs against the Los Angeles Angels in his first Cactus League start. The 31-year-old southpaw has a low fantasy ceiling because of his lack of strikeouts, and he's also allowed an uncomfortable amount of contact. He'll need to pitch well to avoid being booted from the Mariners' starting rotation after he went 10-15 with a 4.13 ERA (5.05 FIP), 1.33 WHIP and weak 13.2 percent strikeout rate in 32 starts last year.

Wed Nov 16 202200:39Mariners Willing To Trade Chris Flexen, Marco Gonzales
MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported Tuesday that the Seattle Mariners would be willing to trade either starting pitcher Chris Flexen or Marco Gonzales. Flexen is in the final year of his contract and Gonzales is under contract for another two seasons with a $15 million club option for 2025. Both were important pieces in the Mariners' rotation in 2022, with Flexen compiling a 3.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 16.1% strikeout rate over 137 2/3 innings and Gonzales posting a 4.13 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 13.2% strikeout rate over 183 IP. Regardless of where they land, both pitchers offer minimal fantasy upside due to high WHIP's and low strikeout rates.

Thu Oct 6 202211:16Marco Gonzales Finishes Off The Regular Season Strong
Seattle Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales had a strong final regular season start on Wednesday in the eventual 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers, but he didn't factor into the decision. In seven innings, Gonzales, allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out five for a quality start. The 30-year-old southpaw probably won't make another start in 2022 unless the Mariners advance past the Toronto Blue Jays in this weekend's American League Wild-Card Series. He finishes the 2022 regular season with a 4.13 ERA (5.05 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, 103 strikeouts and 50 walks in 183 innings over his 32 starts for Seattle.

Sat Jul 23 202209:17Marco Gonzales Surrenders Three Homers Friday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales couldn't keep the ball in the yard against the Houston Astros on Friday when he allowed three home runs in five innings of work. In total, he gave up five runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out one in the eventual 5-2 loss. Gonzales has been solid again in terms of run prevention, posting a 3.74 ERA over 19 starts. However, the left-hander has just 55 punchouts across 106 innings, along with a 1.39 WHIP and 5-10 record. Fantasy managers can find better options in most leagues, even if they give up a little bit of ERA.

Wed Jun 22 202212:01Marco Gonzales Earns Win Tuesday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales earned his fourth win of the season Tuesday, throwing seven strong innings against the Oakland Athletics. Gonzales allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two batters. His ERA and WHIP for the season now sit at 3.33 and 1.30. Gonzales has only allowed more than three earned runs once in 14 starts this season, though he does not have the record to reflect that level of performance. He won't offer many strikeouts, but his ratios are strong, and he gets a value bump in leagues that reward quality starts.

Thu Jun 16 202214:28Marco Gonzales Takes Hard-Luck Loss
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales was excellent against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, but he was saddled with a hard-luck loss regardless. Gonzales allowed just one run on three hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, and the only run came across to score after Gonzales had already been removed from the game. He struck out two batters as his record for the season dropped to 3-7. Gonzales is never going to strike out many batters, with just 40 in 68 2/3 innings this year, but his ratios again make him a solid fantasy fill-in in the right matchups.

Wed Apr 27 202223:31Marco Gonzales Hopes To Make Next Start
Updating a previous report, X-rays came back negative on Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales' left wrist on Wednesday night after he took a 109 mph line drive off his arm against the Tampa Bay Rays in the first inning. The left-hander is dealing with a left wrist contusion and is hoping to make his next scheduled start on Monday in Houston. Gonzales dodged a bullet in his start on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if he'll actually make his next scheduled start. The 30-year-old southpaw gave up a run on one hit while walking one and striking out one in just one-third of an inning to take the loss. Although he's 1-2 to start the season, Gonzales has been decent with five earned runs allowed on 16 hits while walking three and striking out 13 in 13 2/3 innings over his first three starts in 2022.

Wed Apr 27 202221:20Marco Gonzales Leaves Start After Getting Hit By Liner
Seattle Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales left his Wednesday start against the Tampa Bay Rays in the first inning after being hit in the left wrist by a line drive. Gonzalez was on his 11th pitch of the game when Harold Ramirez sent a liner back up the middle, striking Gonzales on his pitching arm. The veteran hurler was replaced on the mound by Yohan Ramirez. Gonzales will head off for X-rays, so expect the Mariners to update his status after the completion of Wednesday's game. The 30-year-old has a 3.86 ERA through four starts in 2022.

Sat Oct 2 202115:24Marco Gonzales Goes Six Innings In Final Start
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales made what is likely to be his final start of the regular season Friday, barring any crazy wild-card shenanigans over the weekend, and he finished strong with two runs allowed on three hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out five batters and was saddled with his sixth loss of the season. It's his fifth consecutive quality start, and his 10th in his last 12 outings. Gonzales had a tough beginning of 2021, but he's made his way back to being the model of consistency fantasy managers expect.

Mon Sep 27 202112:29Marco Gonzales Earns 10th Win
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales reached double-digit wins Sunday, recording his 10th of the year in a 5-1 victory over Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels. Gonzales matched Ohtani pitch for pitch, finishing with one run allowed on three hits and three walks in seven innings. He struck out five batters. Gonzales now has four consecutive quality starts, and has recovered well from a disastrous start to the season. He'll enter 2022 as a solid floor option for fantasy managers once again.

Wed Sep 22 202101:19Marco Gonzales Earns Ninth Win Tuesday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales earned his ninth win of the season Tuesday, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts against the Oakland Athletics. Both runs against Gonzales came off solo home runs. Gonzales has a 5-0 record over his last seven starts, and he's allowed more than three earned runs in just three starts out of 23 this season. Gonzales is a consistent, reliable option in fantasy, though his 98 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings on the year limit his upside.

Thu Sep 16 202100:31Marco Gonzales Delivers Quality Start In No-Decision
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales got off to a tough start against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, giving up three runs over his first two innings of work, but he recovered and was not scored upon in his final four innings. He gave up three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Gonzales has quality starts in seven of his last nine outings, and he's been sneakily excellent since the All-Star break with a 2.53 ERA in 67 2/3 innings. He's a strong play the rest of the way, especially for fantasy managers who can afford a more limited strikeout total.

Sat Sep 11 202111:14Marco Gonzales Earns Eighth Win Friday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales earned his eighth win of the season Friday, throwing six innings and giving up no earned runs to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Three D-Backs did cross the plate on four hits and a walk, but all were unearned. Gonzales struck out three batters. Over his last seven starts, Gonzales has gone 5-0 with a 2.20 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. He won't offer big strikeout numbers, but Gonzales is a sneaky add if he's somehow still available on the waiver wire. His 4.03 ERA does not accurately reflect his value.
