Wed Jul 10 201315:49Bengals release veteran DE Jamaal Anderson
Bengals released DE Jamaal Anderson.
The move saves $2.5 million in cap space. The Falcons' 2007 first-round pick (No. 8 overall), Anderson appeared in only two games last season before tearing his quad. A rotational end the past three seasons after flaming out as a starter, Anderson has played just 918 snaps since 2010. A better run defender than pass rusher, Anderson should be able to latch on somewhere as a camp body, but will be far from a guarantee for a roster spot.

Fri Mar 23 201218:32Bengals sign DE Jamaal Anderson
Bengals signed DE Jamaal Anderson, formerly of the Colts.
Joining Derrick Harvey, Anderson is the second former No. 8 pick in the draft to surface with Cincinnati on the same day. Still only 26 years old, Anderson was a rotational left end and defensive tackle in Indy last season, managing just 24 tackles and three sacks in 15 games. Pro Football Focus did grade Anderson as a serviceable run defender, but he's been a major NFL bust.

Fri Mar 16 201211:26Report: DL Jamaal Anderson to visit Bengals

Mon Aug 1 201118:10Colts sign former draft bust Jamaal Anderson
Colts signed DL Jamaal Anderson to a one-year contract.
The eighth pick in the 2007 draft will try to rekindle his career as a rotational lineman with a contender. Anderson, who looks like Julius Peppers getting off the bus at 6-foot-6, 290, is an odd fit for the Colts. Indy usually likes its ends light, quick, and explosive, and its tackles to be low-to-the-ground gap shooters. Anderson clearly doesn't fit either profile.

Sun Jul 31 201114:32Jamaal Anderson sets up two UFA visits
Free agent DE Jamaal Anderson has set up visits with the Broncos and Titans.
The No. 8 pick in the 2007 draft, Anderson is looking to resurrect his career after being released by Atlanta late last week. The good news is he's only 25 years old. The bad news is that he appears to lack enough first-step explosiveness to emerge as an NFL-caliber pass rusher. The Titans are trying to get bigger up front, however, and may be the 6'6/290-pound Anderson's best fit.

Fri Jul 29 201108:39Falcons give up on Jamaal Anderson
Falcons released DE Jamaal Anderson.
The No. 8 overall pick in the 2007 draft is a better run stopper than pass rusher. For a defensive end schedule to make $3.55 million, that's just not good enough. Anderson's wildly disappointing Falcons career ends with 4.5 sacks in 60 games.

Tue Jul 12 201115:36Falcons want a 'streamlined' Jamaal Anderson
The Falcons are reportedly considering "streamlining" LE Jamaal Anderson in an effort to get more of a pass-rushing impact out of the 2007 first-rounder.
The front office is well aware of a need for another pass rusher, but they view this year's free agent class as "suspect." Ray Edwards and Charles Johnson are going to end up overpaid, and GM Thomas Dimitroff isn't that desperate. He's apparently not going all out for a Super Bowl push after all. As for Anderson, we have no confidence that he'll suddenly blossom into an effective pass rusher in his fifth season.

Wed Feb 9 201115:17Former draft bust Anderson pricey for 2011
Falcons LE Jamaal Anderson is due a $3,558,750 salary in 2011.
The eighth overall pick in the 2007 draft has "developed" into a run-stopping defensive end, which isn't going to cut it at Anderson's salary. The 25-year-old had two sacks in 2010, playing under 50 percent of the defensive snaps. The Falcons may ask him to restructure, and cut ties if he doesn't.

Thu Jan 27 201114:38Anderson, Coleman candidates for release
Falcons DE Jamaal Anderson and S Erik Coleman are candidates to be released this offseason.
Anderson is coming off his best season in Atlanta as a key component of a better than expected run defense. The Falcons have to decide if he's worth $3.6 million with reinforcements needed at receiver, tight end, running back, pass rusher, and secondary. Coleman, due $3 million, would have to take a major paycut to return.

Sun Aug 8 201008:26Anderson working well at DE
Falcons DE Jamaal Anderson has reportedly looked good during training camp drills.
Coaches have been raving about his quickness and tenacity, two elements that have been absent in Anderson's disappointing career. Anderson will head into the season as the starter, though this is probably his last chance to show his stuff. He should be avoided in IDP leagues.

Wed Jul 28 201016:58Jamaal Anderson to keep his starting job
Coach Mike Smith revealed Wednesday that the Falcons intend to keep Jamaal Anderson as their starting left end this season.
ESPN jumped the gun when it speculated Anderson could be on the roster bubble; he's going to start. According to Smith, Anderson will continue to rotate to tackle on passing downs. He won't be of any use in IDP leagues. Kroy Biermann and Lawrence Sidbury will remain nickel down-only specialists.

Tue Jul 20 201012:42Former first-rounder Anderson on the bubble?
Falcons DL Jamaal Anderson could be on the roster bubble this summer.
The 2007 first-rounder has just 2.5 sacks in 44 career games as a defensive end, so the Falcons are trying him out in a swing tackle/end role this year. His roster spot could hinge on the healthy return of DT Peria Jerry, who has struggled to return from an ACL tear.

Sun May 9 201013:40Jamaal Anderson adds weight
Jamaal Anderson has added 15 pounds this offseason and is up to 290 in preparation for playing a swing tackle/end role this year.
"This is the first time that they've really taken the step to make me more inside than outside and I feel pretty comfortable," he said. The former No. 8 overall pick is likely going to lose his starting job to Kroy Biermann. Second-year defensive end Lawrence Sidbury's reps will also increase.

Sun Apr 25 201012:24Anderson will play both DL spots
The Falcons are viewing Jamaal Anderson as a defensive end/defensive tackle.
Anderson is versatile enough to play both spots, but he's been a left end throughout his career. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2007 draft has just 2.5 sacks in 44 career games.
