Thu May 912:17Anthony Rendon Transferred To 60-Day Injured ListAnthony Rendon3BAngelsFree Agent
To make room on the roster for infielder Luis Guillorme on Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels transferred third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) to the 60-day injured list. It means that Rendon won't be eligible to come off the IL until June 21. The 33-year-old oft-injured veteran is on the shelf yet again with the Halos after suffering a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring almost three weeks ago. We'll know more about a specific timetable for Rendon's potential return in another few weeks, but he's unlikely to be ready to come back when he's eligible to come off the IL on June 21. Luis Rengifo, Brandon Drury, Ehire Adrianza and Cole Tucker have all been options at third base for the Angels since Rendon's injury, and now Guillorme could get his shot after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

Thu May 912:12Eduardo Rodriguez Close To Starting A Throwing ProgramEduardo RodriguezSPRed SoxFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) got good news from his MRI exam on Wednesday. His tests showed healing, and it appears that he's close to starting a throwing program, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Rodriguez is probably still a month or so away from a potential return, though. The 31-year-old veteran southpaw was shut down in mid-April with left-shoulder tightness and has yet to make his 2024 debut with the Diamondbacks at this point. E-Rod is making some progress, but he still has a ways to go and can be left to the waiver wire in standard 12-team fantasy leagues for the time being. He had a career-best 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in his final season with the Detroit Tigers last year, but the underlying numbers show that Rodriguez was a bit fortunate. Along with his injury concerns, Rodriguez is a streamer, at best, in deep-mixed leagues when he returns.

Thu May 911:41Giancarlo Stanton Blasts Eighth Home Run WednesdayGiancarlo StantonDHYankeesFree Agent
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit his eighth home run of the season in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Astros, the second straight game with a home run for the slugger. The solo blast traveled 447 feet off of Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti but was Stanton's only hit in the game, finishing 1-for-4. This season has been a bit of a mixed bag as evidenced by his last 15 games, where he's hit safely in 12 of the 15, but with a batting average of just .228 during that stretch. He's got the same exact BA on the season (.228) along with 20 RBI and 18 runs scored, but an ugly 10:45 BB:K. The BA so far is actually an improvement over the last two seasons, but managers who drafted him did so for the power production, which has not been disappointing to this point.

Thu May 911:29Nathaniel Lowe Collects Two Hits, Three RBI In Game 2Nathaniel Lowe1B/DHRangersFree Agent
Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe went 2-for-4 with two walks, three RBI, and two runs scored in Wednesday's 12-11 victory over the Athletics in Game 2 of their doubleheader. Lowe now has a six-game hit streak going, during which time he is 11-for-25 (.440) with three doubles, eight RBI, five runs scored, and a 6:5 BB:K. It appears he's fully recovered after missing the first couple weeks of the season with an oblique injury. The 28-year-old gets a mouthwatering matchup in his next game on Friday in Colorado against LHP Austin Gomber, whom he is 4-for-7 off of lifetime, including a double and a home run.

Thu May 910:26Chris Flexen Strikes Out Eight Rays In WinChris FlexenSPMarinersFree Agent
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Flexen threw six innings of one-run ball in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Rays. Flexen allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out eight. The 29-year-old's previous high-water mark for strikeouts this season was four. The win brings his record to 2-3 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Over his last five appearances (three starts), Flexen has pitched well, posting a 1.61 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a 7:18 BB:K over 22 1/3 IP. While that is commendable, you likely aren't trusting him for fantasy with a career ERA of 4.90 and 1.47 while pitching for the second-worst team in baseball.

Thu May 900:56Carlos Rodon Rebounds With Quality StartCarlos RodónSPWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon turned in a quality start in Wednesday's 9-4 victory over the visiting Houston Astros, tossing 6 1/3 two-run innings on seven hits (one home run) with seven strikeouts on the way to his third win of the season. Rodon got plenty of run support on Wednesday, and it was a strong bounce-back performance after he gave up six earned runs in his last start against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles. The 31-year-old two-time All-Star holds a steady 3.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 43:14 K:BB across 43 innings (eight starts) for the Yankees this season, a major upgrade thus far over his disastrous debut season in the Bronx a year ago. Tuesday's stiff matchup against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field marks Rodon's next scheduled appearance, so fantasy managers may want to tread lightly for that one. Over their last 16 contests, the Twins are scoring 6.3 runs per game.

Thu May 900:49Jordan Montgomery Fires Seven Strong InningsJordan MontgomerySPYankeesFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery fired seven strong innings in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, surrendering just two runs on seven hits and two walks with two punchouts in his second win of the season. It was arguably Montgomery's best start as a D-back to this point, though his first start back on April 19 may have been just as impressive. The 31-year-old veteran southpaw will still want to improve on his disappointing 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 10:6 K:BB over 23 frames (four starts) for Arizona when he takes the ball in his next scheduled appearance at home in a soft matchup against these same Reds on Monday. Cincinnati is now batting .209 as a team through 36 games, which is the worst mark in all of baseball.

Thu May 900:36Chris Sale Fans 10 In Fourth Straight WinChris SaleSPRed SoxFree Agent
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale produced his first double-digit strikeout effort of the season in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox, throwing six scoreless innings on six hits and one walk en route to his fifth win of the year. Staked to an early four-run lead, Sale cruised through his former club with relative ease on Wednesday. After giving up five runs to the last-place Miami Marlins back on April 19, the 35-year-old seven-time All-Star has gone 4-0 with a pristine 1.50 ERA and 32:3 K:BB over his past four starts (23 innings) for the Braves. Up next, Sale sets up for a manageable home start against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Over their last 12 outings, the Cubs are scoring just 2.8 runs per game.

Thu May 900:13Aaron Judge Clobbers Eighth HomerAaron JudgeRFYankeesFree Agent
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge racked up a season-high eight total bases in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the visiting Houston Astros, homering and doubling with three RBI. Judge clobbered his eighth home run of the campaign in the third inning, later lining a two-run double in the sixth frame. Although the 32-year-old former American League MVP endured a sluggish start to the year, he's batting a stratospheric .385 with four bombs, four two-baggers, 11 RBI, and nine runs scored in his last 11 games since April 27. Judge looks to keep his foot on the gas during a three-game set against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays beginning on Friday, but in 13 games against the Rays since 2023, he's hitting just .146 with two blasts and five RBI.

Wed May 821:56Michael Kopech Locks Down Third SaveMichael KopechSPWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox closer Michael Kopech locked down Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, firing a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory. Kopech got Randy Arozarena to fly out before giving up a single to Harold Ramirez, but the hurler managed to induce a game-ending double play out of Isaac Paredes. It's been a mixed bag from the hard-throwing 28-year-old right-hander as a reliever for the last-place ChiSox this season, but he does have three saves as well as a serviceable 3.93 ERA and 1.25 WHIP while fanning 25 and walking 10 over 18 1/3 frames as Chicago's preferred ninth-inning weapon. Rookie righty Jordan Leasure and veteran John Brebbia are also in the mix for save opportunities on the South Side, making Kopech a fringe hold in fantasy leagues for saves desperados.

Wed May 821:49Chris Bassitt Logs Another Quality StartChris BassittSPAthleticsFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt delivered an outstanding performance in Wednesday's 5-3 victory on the road over the Philadelphia Phillies, striking out six and allowing just two runs on three hits and two walks for his third win of the season. That's back-to-back quality starts now for Bassitt, who was hammered for seven runs at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers in his prior appearance on April 26. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander still has work to do to enhance his 5.06 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 40:20 K:BB through 42 2/3 frames (eight starts) for the Jays this season, but he's certainly trending in the right direction. Tuesday's scheduled start against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards unfortunately looks like a nightmarish spot for Bassitt, who went 0-2 and gave up 12 runs across nine innings (two starts) against Baltimore a year ago.

Wed May 821:29Garrett Whitlock Nearing Rehab AssignmentGarrett WhitlockSPRed SoxFree Agent
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock (oblique) is scheduled to throw live batting practice ahead of Friday's series opener against the visiting Washington Nationals. If all goes well, Whitlock could make a minor-league rehab start five days later on May 15 and potentially be back with the Red Sox by May 20. Before suffering a strained left oblique, the 27-year-old right-hander registered an outstanding 1.96 ERA (3.31 FIP) and 1.14 WHIP while striking out 17 and walking seven in four starts (18 1/3 innings) out of Boston's rotation this season, and he remains a strong stash in all fantasy leagues. Swingman Cooper Criswell has filled in well during Whitlock's absence, compiling a 1.74 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 16:4 K:BB through 20 2/3 frames (four starts), and he'll be a prime streaming candidate for Sunday's series finale against a middling Nats lineup.

Wed May 821:16Nolan Jones "Likely" Needs Rehab AssignmentNolan Jones3BIndiansFree Agent
The hope is that Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) will start defensive practice and resuming hitting in the cage this weekend. As he prepares to ramp up his baseball activities, Jones will "more than likely" need a brief minor-league rehab assignment before returning from a strained lower back. Following a 2023 breakout campaign, the 26-year-old left-handed hitter was slashing an icy .170/.243/.277 with one home run, five doubles, seven RBI, and two stolen bases through 94 at-bats (26 games) as Colorado's primary left fielder but remains a recommended stash with a mid-May return still a possibility. Top prospect Jordan Beck should continue receiving the lion's share of the reps in left field until Jones is ready to return, but he's hitting an empty .125 (3-for-24) over seven outings during his first stint in the major leagues.

Wed May 821:04Pete Fairbanks Set For Another Rehab OutingPete FairbanksRPRaysFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays closer Pete Fairbanks (arm) is set to make another minor-league rehab appearance on Friday. After throwing a scoreless inning for Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Fairbanks is scheduled for another outing in the minors before returning from a nerve-related issue and rejoining Tampa Bay's bullpen. Barring any setbacks, the Rays could activate the hard-throwing 30-year-old right-hander from the injured list following that assignment. Although he's given up seven earned runs and walked eight over seven innings this year, Fairbanks has three saves as well as a respectable 3.72 FIP and should reclaim the closing gig upon his return. Until then, Jason Adam should remain the favorite for saves and is worth holding in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Wed May 820:21Jacob Wilson Promoted To Triple-AJacob Wilson2BAstrosFree Agent
Oakland Athletics top prospect Jacob Wilson has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas after hitting .455/.473/.705 with an absurd 1.178 OPS, 16 extra-base hits (three home runs), 19 RBI, two stolen bases and 18 runs scored in 22 games for Double-A Midland. The 22-year-old former sixth overall pick last year out of Grand Canyon University has risen up the A's minor-league system quickly and is now just one step away from making his big-league debut. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is the son of former big-league shortstop Jack Wilson. What he lacks in power and exit velocities, Wilson makes up for with his elite contact skills and low strikeout rates. For now, he should be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues, but he could become a waiver-wire pickup later in the year in single-year leagues if he's called up to Oakland.

Wed May 820:14Aledmys Diaz, Zack Gelof To Start Rehab Assignments This WeekendAledmys Díaz2B/3BAstrosFree Agent
Zack GelofFree Agent
Oakland Athletics infielders Aledmys Diaz (calf) and Zack Gelof (oblique) will both join Triple-A Las Vegas this weekend to begin their respective minor-league rehab assignments. Diaz was cleared for a rehab assignment after successfully running the bases on Wednesday. The 33-year-old veteran utilityman is on the 60-day injured list and has yet to play in 2024. He won't be eligible to return until late May, so he'll take his time on his rehab assignment. When he's back from the injured list, he won't be guaranteed to see regular playing time for the A's. Gelof, who was the team's starter at second before his injury, is the more attractive fantasy asset in deeper leagues despite starting the year with a .196/.260/.337 slash line with three home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases in his first 92 at-bats.

Wed May 820:09Ryan Pressly Dealing With Sore BackRyan PresslyRPAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros right-handed reliever Ryan Pressly (back), who hasn't pitched since last Friday, is dealing with soreness in his lower back, according to manager Joe Espada. Pressly played catch on Wednesday, and Espada said he "felt OK" and termed it "nothing worrisome right now." For now, the 35-year-old will remain with the team, but it remains to be seen if he'll be available out of the team's bullpen on Wednesday against the New York Yankees. Pressly's back issues could have contributed to his slow start in 2024, as he's currently sporting a 5.27 ERA and 1.68 WHIP while walking five and striking out 21 in 13 2/3 innings of relief. However, he hasn't allowed a run in his last five innings while walking one and striking out nine and will remain a key late-inning setup man in front of closer Josh Hader if he's healthy enough to pitch.

Wed May 820:00Chas McCormick Could Start Rehab Assignment This WeekendChas McCormickLF/RFAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick (hamstring) could start a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend. McCormick has recovered quickly after landing on the injured list with hamstring soreness last week. If the 29-year-old gets out of a short rehab assignment without any setbacks, he could return to the Astros early next week. Mauricio Dubon has seen more playing time in Houston's outfield since McCormick landed on the shelf. McCormick is going to need to do more with the bat when he returns to assure himself regular playing time. In 21 games before his hamstring injury, he was hitting .236/.325/.278 with no home runs, eight RBI, two stolen bases and six runs scored in 83 plate appearances. He's coming off his best season as a pro in 2023, when he hit .273 with 22 homers, 70 RBI and 19 swipes.

Wed May 819:36Giants Place Jorge Soler On 10-Day Injured ListJorge SolerDHRoyalsFree Agent
The San Francisco Giants placed outfielder Jorge Soler (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a right-shoulder strain and recalled outfielder Heliot Ramos from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Soler missed the team's last three games with his shoulder injury and will now be forced to miss at least another week. The 32-year-old right-handed slugger boasts elite power but has gone just 24-for-119 (.202) with five home runs, eight RBI and 14 runs scored in his first 34 games in San Francisco. Ramos, 24, is serving as the designated hitter on Wednesday night and is hitting seventh in the batting order. He has yet to make an impact at the big-league level for the Giants but was swinging a hot bat in the minors and will be worth a look off the waiver wire in NL-only leagues now that he could see some playing time over the next week for the Gigantes.

Wed May 819:11Jose Urquidy To Begin Rehab Assignment This WeekendJosé UrquidySPAstrosFree Agent
Houston Astros starting pitcher Jose Urquidy (forearm) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend. The right-hander has been sidelined since spring training due to inflammation in his forearm. The expectation is that Urquidy is going to need a few rehab starts before rejoining the Astros rotation. Possibly, Urquidy is able to rejoin the Astros rotation by the end of May. Fantasy managers will have to stay tuned for more updates over the next week or two.
